My guess is that the guy is drinking the "social unrest" kool-aid and panicked that he doesn't have a higher capacity pocket pistol lest he somehow roll into "an angry mob" and is making a rash and foolish decision to dump a quality "low capacity" piece of mechanical art for a 10-15 round jump-jump that they can clutch like pearls out of manufactured fear. Just a guess on my part, of course. Looking at a gun cases at the LGS, it seems to be playing out as such. Gorgeous wheel guns a plenty, every plastic fantastic of all makes, models, and calibers unobtainium. I could see why they may be making a trade. I may be reading too much into his/her reasoning. Maybe they are reading some political tea leaves and are trying to snag a "high capacity" gun before legislation makes that difficult to acquire. 6 shooters are always available.

A Glock is on my short list for 2021. Due to COVID, I haven't bought a gun since January and haven't even been shooting since February. I feel I need a rough and tumble tool, maybe a 10mm like a Glock 20. However, if I had a 26 in my hand right now, I would almost certainly make that trade.

There is no way I'd trade a Glock26 for any colt revolver.

I’d trade it yesterday! But then I don’t like Glocks. I’ve had 4 and they just don’t do anything for me. I sold my last one a week ago.

That was my first guess as well.
If I were living in a city and only had a detective special I might trade for a Glock. That said, there is nothing wrong with the colt as a carry gun.
I don't see this as some "jerk their arm off" deal like many here do though. It's not a python. Police positive and detective specials don't bring 1/4 what some colts do. Go on gunbroker right now. There are countless good looking detective specials with buy it now prices under 600. I know where a few are that 400 would take home and they have sat for years. I own many Glock. The most i ever paid for one was 5ish and it was a 6 inch 10mm. I bought quite a few in the last few years for 269-299. If I wanted a det. Special I'd trade. But I don't see it as lopsided as some here see it.

The colt will never go down in value though. The Glock will be a 3-400 dollar gun again.

If it were an older gun, I might consider it. One of the new aluminum-framed guns, no.

I dont think Id do it unless I could have it in my hands to look at it too. The fact you seem uneasy about it, Id probably follow your hunch and walk.

Ive had a number of old Colts over the years, and they were good guns, but Im a S&W fan, and the Colts were all backward in how they work.

I have a couple of 26's, and the only way Id let one go, is if I had 3. And Id be looking to replace it, ASAP.

Look at normal prices. Glocks are 3-400 and the DS is 4-600 assuming that the guns are both in fair condition. A nice Glock would trade for an OK DS normally. There’s your monetary benchmark. What you think you would enjoy more is the thing to consider.

No danger of the that. Colt stopped making the DS in the mid-90s and hasn't reissued it.
Is it an original, second issue, third or fourth issue? SV-IV or DSII? There's a few that are actually worth more, but any one in good condition is something I'd trade any Glock for, before the Colt owner changed his/her mind.

I'd make that trade in a heart beat. I'd take a Colt Detective Special that's was in pieces parts in a box over any Glock ever made.

I understand thats a personal thing, and thats perfectly fine, but having owned both, Id say one "might" be a nice BBQ gun, depending on the era, while the other is a more realistic hard use workhorse, that can be much more than it first appears, with a simple mag change.

If I really wanted the Colt, Id find a way to buy it. I wouldnt give up my only 26 to get it though. I think that would be foolish.

Yeah. 3 inch or anything. Could decimal be a rare version. The Glock 26.... not a rare version. Lol. The fish gill serrated ones may bring a 5 dollar premium though. But like I said gunbroker is full of 500 dollar plain detective specials. And RIGHT NOW they are cheaper than a Glock 26. That Will change but you have to go by today's prices.

I like Glock. But if you wouldn't trade a Glock 26 for a new "modern made reissued" python then I don't know. I'll trade any one of mine. Sell the colt then buy 3 Glock back

Here in Michigan I have seen a old model Dick Special at a LGS listed for $695.00.
It did sell since it is no longer available, the kicker was the gun was used long and hard.
Looked as it was drug behind a pickup truck, but it sold.

Check on Guns International for price's asked on Colts, they generally go for higher $$$$$$.

Can't resist a chance to knock Glock: I'd
