I live in Michigan where "out the side" opening automatic knives are legal and im interested in a Buck 110 Auto. However every site I go to states you must be some form of military or manufacturer to purchase and I cant find a store in state that sells them.

I have gone to "Knifecenter.com" and "BladeHQ.com", both will ship them as long as you check the box agreeing that you meet the requirements(no proof needed).

Am I misunderstanding the law, over thinking this, or am I simply out of luck?

I solved that with fleaBay. Search carefully and you'll find a robust marketplace with not a single mention of "automatic" or "switchblade".

Don't know why, on eBay this one doesn't mention anything about it 224199498477.

I have a hard time ordering non auto knives in NY. Amazon limits us greatly by following NYC rules. The last knife I ordered I had sent to my Hotel when I was traveling for work. My son was issued by the Marines a Benchmade auto knife. Pretty cool, but not always useful.

Folks,

The OP has a question about ordering an auto knife, not on whether autos are good or not. Lets show a little respect and try to help him answer his question instead of telling him he doesn't need one.

-Or if you live in Texas.

It was surprising that TX of all places was so restrictive on knife owners until Knife Rights fought to change the laws there in 2017. TX was much harder to make those changes than most states, including IL. Thanks to KR, folks in TX and IL, and dozens of other states, can own these knives.

The only thing I do is buy from in-state (TX) dealers. I have seen authoritative posts saying the federal legal burden is not on the buyer, but for myself I prefer to stay in state and have peace of mind. Expanding on the OP's question - it might be good to compile a list of known/reputable sellers in each state for that purpose.

That's the case since they're interstate commerce laws or shipping laws and only apply to the seller or where a conspiracy to break the law commercially is committed (IOW, bulk purchase to resell).

The Buck 110 auto is nice, although a little slow. I have the upgraded black and silver one. It springs slower than my 13 inch(6 inch blade) Italian stilleto.

I know I got mine from either knife knifecenter or bladehq. I don't recall having to check any boxes.

Like someone else said, check the ebay stores. Go over the reviews of the seller. Good luck.

DLT just has a box to check that says it is legal to own in your state. I got my 112 Auto Pro from them...

Good grief! I can’t imagine living in a State that acts like Europe! “Oh NO! A knife!!” Here is Pa., can have ‘em all. Side autos, OTF blades, Bali’s. Shoot...I’ve carried a Bali EDC for 11 years. Cops here aren’t looking at them, other than for reason to search someone. Besides, they would pretty stupid worrying about a knife, while I’m open carrying a pistol! o_O

I’m surprised it’s a big deal in ANY states besides the openly Communist, Democrat CESSPOOL states....Ca., NY, IL., NJ, etc.

Ummmm, you might want to look at the law for PA. You're enthusiasm may come with a big serving of crow.

The primary Pennsylvania statute regarding knives is § 908 of the PA crimes code, captioned ‘Prohibited Offensive Weapons’. The knife specific language specifically says that automatic knives may not be possessed, and are prohibited as ‘offensive weapons’ unless the knife is kept and dealt with ‘as a curio’. That means side openers or OTF autos are not legal to carry and are not even legal to own except as a "curio". IOW, at least with respect to automatic knives, PA is one of those states you just threw under the bus. Matter of fact, CA allows small autos where PA doesn't even permit that.

Ok... I’ve lived here my entire life, save for 4 years I lived Arizona. Yes, I’m aware of a number of laws that have been on the books for a LONG time. I also know what IS & is NOT enforced. Oh, but maybe you know what living here is like better... I mean, I’m only a 42 year resident of Pennsylvania after all. :D

Just the knife law. ;)

But I've been fighting crazy laws against knife owners since the early '90s and helped stand up the two national organizations putting real money and effort into stopping and removing those crazy laws. And the fact that you thought your state was great on those laws when it isn't is in no way unusual in our experience. Folks think because they can buy a knife that there is either no infringement or no enforcement...until their knife is discovered and they're hit with a dangerous weapon charge changing what may have been an inconvenience into major trouble. While that can happen where the laws are vague, there is nothing vague when the law specifies what knives are forebidden to the citizens of a state...like in PA. Knife Rights has helped in cases where there was some legal room for argument, but when switchblades are specifically classified as dangerous weapons it makes it much harder. When good law abiding folks think they aren't subject to crazy knife laws, but are, they're really just one unlucky step away from having their lives changed treading on thin ice.

Do you have an Indian reservation nearby? Auto knives was the sole reason I would cross over to Cherokee NC occasionally when I went to the smokies. The tribal rules are typically much less stringent than federal regulation, and there was one spot in Cherokee that had good deals on knives.

I was asked to take a look at this as an impartial third party. I'll say this, I deleted a bunch of posts from members and staff because we were drifting too far off the original topic. Also, the hyperbole needs to stop. Period. Full stop. Democrats this, republican this, communist that do nothing to foster an intelligent discussion and have absolutely no bearing on the question as asked by the OP. We welcome all comers and do not want to drive away potential converts by vomiting out pointless platitudes.

THR is committed to the responsible ownership or firearms, and in this case knives. We are here to put on the best, most mature face possible for the world to see. THR, and I, don't care one bit what laws are not enforced. We will always advocate for following the law as written until such time as it can be overturned or repealed through due legal process. Anything else goes against what THR stands for. Advocating for illegal action, no matter if the law is enforced or not, is grounds for removal from THR.

OP, I'm sorry your thread was derailed. I hope you find the answers you are looking for.

Well said Robert- and it’s great to know that if I step over the line someone will act to get me back on the path... That’s what makes this site valuable.
