We're still dealing with the MN stay at home mandate due to covid 19, and I just thought I'd share a little project I got into looking for something to do.

Recently (last few months) I had picked up a couple of old Bauer .25 ACP mouse gun pistols, and buying some spare parts for refurbishing them, I realized I have no box or papers for them. Also, now that I made them look really nice again, a tiny cardboard box might not do them justice. Ah, finally a use for those old Levi's wallet gift tin boxes I've hung onto for all these years that my wife said I should throw away "because you'll never use them." She's right about that once in a while, but not this time at least. :)

So I just found a some piece of foam I also had lying around that also 'I'd never use', and some piece of satin type material again I just happened to have in a rags drawer. Razor knife, heavy duty tape, scissors, glue, ect., and I spent a couple hours making a nice little display box for one of the little guns. I also found a .pdf of an original Bauer Operating Guide and Parts List online, so I printed out a copy.

I have another tin and materials enough to make one for my other Bauer .25, so I guess I'll probably just have to make another for a set. Not a big production or anything, but just a fun little project for my really little pistols.

Thanks guys, and Obturation it's not anything like that my friend. I'm just an odd duck that just likes things the way I want them to be, and I get a bug up my butt and change things. I've been laid up with a smashed toe and herniated disc in my neck for going on 2 months now, and with this 'stay at home MN order' I've been doing anything I can to distract myself so I've just gotten the 'modding things bug' more than usual lately.

Yeah, I remember you saying before that you had a rough past couple months. Hopefully you're back in prime shooting condition by the time this stuff blows over. Back/neck pain is a real bear, get some rest .

Nice way to spend virus time doing something fun and useful, with great results.

I've seen some of your knife projects here, you certainly have talent for design.

That's great and really compliments the cleaned up pop gun. I know about saving stuff because I might need it some day. Sometimes when digging around for something I know I have but can't remember where I have it I find some real surprises that I had completely forgotten about. I have to stay busy either modifying something or building something I've dreamed up. Even when under the the weather like I've been for for several days my mind is busy designing projects I would like to do.

Great job of repurposing those boxes! Looks nice (dare I say "cute"), with the Bauer .25 tucked away in there!

Thanks for the kind comments, and yeah I just shared an Idea I got involved in being all cooped up.

I'm a bit of a pack-rat when it comes to boxes and containers,,,
Some people would consider me a definite hoarder,,,
But the dang things come in handy.

Couple that with my OCD tendency to like packaged/cased items,,,
This gives me an opportunity to do some crafts.

Thanks for putting that idea in my head,,,
I have two mouse guns I think I'll try to case.

Very cool. Thanks for the idea. I have a few examples of that style box sitting around here because they look too good to toss out. I even have some thin sheets of foam around here someplace, too.

Can you tell me what type of foam you used?

In this case, not so much as these pieces I am using came as packing from an airgun company where I'd bought a pellet pistol and some pellets. The foam pieces were just in the box.
However, this is not my first box through the years, and most of the time I have used the kind of black semi dense foam used in gun/camera cases etc. You can typically get it (various thicknesses) at larger fabric, craft or hobby stores. I have also seen similar types online including something called "pick n pluck" I think, or something like that. That stuff is real easy to work with as the face (flat top) is like precut into little squares like 1/4" - 1/2" so you can just trace your gun outline and pluck out the precut pieces.
I hope this helps.

Looks like polyethylene mrc (maximum recycled content) foam that is commonly used for packaging. It's available in different densities and thicknesses. I use some that is thicker for protecting contents when shipping. You should be able to find some by googling it. Local foam packaging companies have it and I have bought some before at an upholstery wholesale store locally. Also places like Grainger might also have it.

I just got an alert that another member just liked this Bauer box thread, (thank you) which reminded me I'm currently working on another display box. It's not another Bauer one although I still need to finish another for my other box-less little pistol, but it's a bigger display box for my 2 Doc Holliday type pistols I re-gripped sometime back. I'll be up-cycling a vintage silver flatware wooden box, some upholstery foam, and some velvet material I picked up. I'm a ways off from finishing, but here's a teaser picture for reference. Nothing great or professional, but better than them just sitting in a pistol bracket slot in the safe. I'll of course make a new thread when it's finished and hopefully presentable.

Thanks Obturation, yeah I know what you mean and you are never short on compliments for others. I truly hope neither of us fully grows up as that can take the fun out of life, and I'm sure quite of few of us have experienced that from time to time. And besides, I see no good reason to otherwise act my age... Also as weird as this sounds, after I cut out those foam gun cut outs yeah I had to hold them and play like they were shootable for just a second, just because.... lol ;)
