That's nice. I have a blue one in 270. It's plenty accurate with factory ammo for a deer rifle. I have an old #1 in 22-250 that has proved to be very accurate with certain handloads. The trick is to quit shooting when the barrel starts to heat up and let it cool down. It's not good for a prairiedog gun when there are lots of dogs but really nice for picking off the occasional jackrabbit that is a long way off.

Yeah at anything less than top dollar. The cheapest one I ever saw around here was 10 years ago for 750 bucks, all scratched up and cracked stock in 458wm. I still almost bought it.

They are not extremely common in my area either, and I’ve never seen one listed for less than a grand. I have gotten a deal on all of mine other than this latest one and my 257 Weatherby. Market dictated that they weren’t going to be had for anything less than top dollar though. Best deal I’ve gotten on a No. 1 was $895 for my stainless 250 Savage, but it’s worth almost double that. Hard to complain there. I did get offered a No. 3 in 223 for $750 today. Not sure if I want it or not unless I used it for a project.

Paid 850 for my RSI in 2015. Used m8 4x for 125. Sold it for a K two yrs later. Blue book says RSI is 150 more than a B. Of course mine had the most bland wood ever personally seen. But now that model fetches a bit more ( as usual, sell before market gets hot LOL ).

Paid 950 for my '67 pre B in
280 rem. Its worth a bit more than that.
My annoyance w Ruger ring system has me about ready to dump it....and maybe even my 77 mkII all weather.

I'd jump on that #3 like a chicken on a June bug!

Was nice when Burris made for the Ruger system. Think they even did posiline for spell. Leupold makes rings for the Ruger system, but now they flat the top and slap their logo on em.

Ugh.

Ruger Ones are like peanuts, or dry martinis, it's hard to stop with just one. I acquired this .22-250 this morning even though I already have two more in this caliber, but it's an early model with nice wood and Unertl 10X Vulture scope. So how could I let it get away? Ruger No 1 accuracy is a mixed bag. Some shoot great, some dont. Ive had 2 and both shot okay, but nothing to write home about. Around 2 MOA on average with sub MOA groups occasionally.

Im not expert but I believe it has more to do with the age of the rifle than necessarily the design. I believe Ruger had a time frame where their barrels weren't known for great accuracy.
My RSI I had in .243 would shoot 3 shot groups with Sierra 85s into 3/4" @ 100 off a rest; one gun I regret getting rid of.

No need to explain; even if you had a half dozen or more of the same rifle there's no way you could walk away from that rifle with that scope and with that fantastic looking wood!

I’m picking up two more No. 1 within the next week. A 25-06 1V that I traded for a rifle I had very little money tied up in. And a stainless/laminate 270 Win that I am trading a pistol I have very little money tied up in. With the 25-06 I’ll have a No. 1 in every .25 cal they have been chambered in and the K1B fills the need of an all-weather No. 1.

Yeah I hear ya on the gloss scopes.
Mine needs an optic. Been looking on a certain auction site, and people think the gold ring, to be made of solid gold LOL.
Fetched my .280 from the shop, was there a couple months.
No buyers.
Have a Freedom 3-9X sitting on a shelf.
Not a fan of the vert split rings (first 2 yrs of production) and have some offset rings in med to try.
They won't work w newer Leupolds of bigger turret body.
I took a little off the ring so can maybe use 3/16 of the offset.

Edit: Freedom 3-9X is on the #1. Got some Fed Premium to try in it this week.

Handling both the 77mkii and the #1............the #1 just feels better to me.
Never have warmed up to 77's, even tang safety ones.
Dunno why.
Rem 700s I like.
Know my wrists are beat up and arthritis is present.
But a #1 has ALWAYS felt good to me, wrist position.
I also like a thin wrist on a shotgun.

Funny, but dimensional diffs are huge for me, as far as comfort.
Doesn't take much to annoy me.

Why I run Hogue rubber grips on my revolvers.

Congrats on your new addition. Very nice looking rifle.

I bought a ruger no1 in 22-250 early summer. Never got around to shooting it. I ended up trading it for a S&W model 13 and cash. I will pick up another one some day. Really well built rifles.

Very nice gun!

What kind of accuracy can a person get / expect from a Ruger No 1 like the OP?

I picked up a Ruger No. 1A Sporter in 6.5x55SE several years ago. I mounted a Leupy VX-3 2-8x36 using the Ruger Rings that came with the rifle, bore sighted and headed for the range . Having no 6.5 Swede brass, I bought three boxes of Rem 140gr Core-Lokt to sight in. My first three shots produced a bughole at 50 yards, a few inches off on both windage and elevation. I adjusted the scope and moved the bughole to the center of the bull. I moved out tp 100 yards and got a 0.75" 3-shot group, adjusted it to 2" high at 100 yards for shots 10, 11, and 12 and repeated the 0.75" 3-shot group.

I subsequently got a Ruger 77 African in 6.5x55SE, mounted an identical scope and got nearly the same accuracy with the last 8 rounds from that box and 4 from the second box.. That's better than what I expect from Ruger but am delighted with both.

My subsequent hand load development with 140gr Nosler AccuBonds and 40.0gr of VV N550 produce 0.66"-0.75" groups at 100 yards off the bench and provide me with good hunting loads.

YMMV, but I hope not. These are wonderful hunting rifles.

Picked up another this morning. It’s a 1V in 25-06 that I worked out a trade for about a month ago. We finally made our schedules work today. It’s the roughest No. 1 I’ve bought to date, but the bluing looks pretty good. Decent wood that needs to be refinished. The stainless scope rings aren’t going to stay, but they were the only extended rings I had in the closet and this Zeiss has terrible eye relief. I’ll have to get it out after Thanksgiving to get it sighted in and maybe kill a deer with it. D1BD7273-DC86-4615-A445-A22E7BBB2B5D.jpeg
