I have recently investigated the dot scopes and keep hearing of a brand called Aim Point. I understand the U.S. Army uses them. What is the general consensus on the quality? I see some other well known brands such as Sig Sauer of Germany is making the dot scopes.

Which is the better brand? I know Germany makes excellent guns and I would imagine scopes. Thank you.

For red dot. Aimpoint is the grail dot. You cant get better quality or durability in a dot. The great thing is, you can have an aimpoint for a lil over $450 if you dont mind a lil bit of weight on top of your rifle. If you are adamant about weight and must shave every possible oz your gonna have to spend $750+ for one of their micro models. I have a pro on my mid length and it's a great dot, reliable, accurate, great battery life, complete confidence. I think they are quite litterally bombproof grade.

My first dot was a aimpoint pro. I've had it for awhile now.
I have bought a few more since then, eotech, vortex, holosun etc.... but the aimpoint is on my go to self defense rifle.

The battery lasts forever and I haven't needed to adjust it in years.

I like the fact that after removing it several times from the rifle I never have to re zero. I have a MI mount on mine but still the mount that comes with it is awesome too. It's just a really, really safe pick. I like the holosuns and primary arms too, they have served their purpose well but like ^^^^said, my aimpoint is on my "grab a rifle" rifle.

I have 5 Aimpoints (M2/ML2's) I bought back when they were the state of the art almost 20 years ago now. They are old school now, and only have a battery life of about a year, but have never failed, and still work great.

I just changed out the batteries for the year this afternoon. They run 24/7/365, and I change them at the time change in the fall. I have never found one dead yet either.

Two of them are on guns that get used a couple of times each month and have quite a few rounds through them (both guns and dots). The guns arent babied and have been banged around a good bit, and Ive never had any zero or sight issues.

The reason I went with Aimpoint was, I tried a number of the "cheaper" but still big name dots of the time (Bushnell, Tasco, etc) and had a lot of trouble with them working, holding up to being shot a lot, and battery life was dismal. Seemed every time I got them out of the safe, Id forgot to turn the dot off, and the battery was dead, again.

If I had back the money I wasted on those sights, Id have a couple of more Aimpoints and maybe a mount or two. Buy once, cry once.

I really couldn't afford buying them when I did, but I figured out a way to get it done, and Im glad I did. I havent regretted the decision in the least.

By now, they are starting to zero out and I think right now, they are working out to have cost me something like $20 a year at this point.

As to the OP's specific question: "which is the better brand, Aimpoint or Sig Romeo".

Aimpoint. Hands down, every day and twice on Sunday. Nobody will disagree with this statement. It's not even debatable.

I agree with the above, but the Sig Romeo is a decent red dot all the same.

As Jerry said, the Sig is good quality. I don’t know of anything Sig that isn’t. But the Aim Point is better and it isn’t debatable.

Yes for sure. I can think of a few examples of really excellent dots that are a great value on top of being excellent performers. Sig Romeo, PA Micro Dot, Holosun, Vortex.... I have experience with some of these dots and they are quite impressive RDS especially for the $200+/- price tags. The Aimpoint is just, well. An Aimpoint.

I just helped my uncle with a no compromise build, he didnt want to save a dollar anywhere. He went all in with the best available parts and when it came time to top it off with an optic he wanted to know if I thought he should go with a Aimpoint pro or Trijicon MRO and I tried to steer him toward the Aimpoint but he opted for the MRO with green dot, naturally.... Guess I should have suggested the MRO based on how my advice gets taken, lol. Jk. Trouble is it's been like 5 months and he hasnt been able to find one.

In the back of my mind I was thinking "man. Should have just grabbed a PRO while they were available". He got pretty jazzed up about the "Green" dot being better than red. I'm not sold but it's not my rifle so I kept my opinion to myself. But, if he had taken my advice he would have an optic on his AR...:D

Kind of the same deal with the time he asked me "glock 43 or S&W Shield?". Btw, when I say asked me I mean we just talked about both guns at length on phone calls and family gatherings and just tossed the idea around. Eventually it boils down to "which one would you get and why".

I told him Glock43 hands down and try to gently nudge, but if there were no such thing as a Glock43 I would definitely own a shield. Anyway, he went with the shield and never really warmed up to it and always seems to admire my nice and worn 43 that gets all kinds of carry.

Sig Germany isn't making anything.
Sig red dots are made in China, likely coming from the same factory that makes Holosun and primary arms red dots.

Aimpoint PRO and Trijicon MRO are both top notch, the only downside to the PRO is weight.

The SIG red dots are very good. I've gotten several in the last year and like them very much. However, Aimpoint is the standard by which all others are judged and have been as long as red dot sights have been in existence.

The Aimpoint T2 is a great red dot. Lightweight, durable, low draw on the battery—it's hard to not like them.

Currently, Sport Optics has a T2 with a low mount for $809, but after the 18 percent discount using a coupon, you can get one for $664. The low mount admittedly is too low for me on a rifle without a drop at the comb (read: AR-15), but the Scalarworks LEAP mount solves that issue.

It's not cheap, but it's well made. In my experience, that's usually a pretty good tradeoff if you are using it on a defensive rifle. If you're just plinking, another brand would be fine.

That's a good suggestion, but the T2 without mount is even less and the mount needs to be removed before the T2 can be mounted to the superb Scalar Works LEAP.

When I checked, the discount was 13%. Is the 18% discount code listed somewhere else?

Pretty much echoing the AimPoint praise. Best red dot optics out there. The PRO is the best combination of price, functionality and durability made these days.

SIG Romeo sights, designed in Oregon, assembled in California, according to SIG. Don't know where they're sourcing the parts from, but SIG says the 4T is entirely made in the USA ...

You have to click Click for Details under Promo Code Available under the price. That brings you to this wonderful page: https://www.sportoptics.com/aimpoint-red-dot-sights.aspx :D It's tempting me to buy a second one.

The only reason I mentioned the low mount was because the OP didn't mention the firearm that he was placing it on. It could be a shotgun. But, yeah, if buying a LEAP, he wouldn't need the low mount.

I've heard that Aim Point is the best, high dollar ones for sure. $800 & $900. Very rugged and wonderful bright clear optics. However there must be others that are excellent. The market is competitive.

I did a count. I have 9 SIG red dots, one rangefinder and one riflescope. All of the Romeo 4's and 6's are marked "assembled in US". The Romeo1 and Sierra3 2.5-8x in the Philippines. Only the cheap MSR red dot and rangefinder are made in China. I have a Romeo5 but it's the only one I don't still have the box for but based on its price it 'could' also be made in China. Even their stuff made in China seems like decent quality for the money. Not everything made in China is "cheap" but most things cheap are made in China. ;)

The market is competitive in the low and mid-priced segments. The upper end has seen some competition from Trijicon, Leupold, etc. but Aimpoint is still the standard.
