Hello friends of THR, I recently sold my nice S&W 36-2 which wasn't seeing range time at all. I wanted something that I could use more at the range without putting too much attention to it and without breaking the bank. So today morning I went to my LGS and purchased a new pistol.
It is a Taurus G3 chambered in 9x21 IMI for the italian market where 9x19 pistols are forbidden for civilians and restricted for military and police use only.
The pistol came in a nice plastic case with two 15 rounds magazines. I'm very pleased about the look, the finish and the trigger of this inexpensive gun. I like the grip, it seems almost like a single stack grip to me. Grip texture is aggressive. I like the slide serrations and the thumb safety because I don't have a safety in my others 9mm except the Pardini GT9-1 which is a range-only gun for me. As I mentioned the trigger is good and the second strike capability is a plus in my book.
The sights are good but I don't like at all the fact they are plastic and I can't understand why the G3C sights are Glock-compatible where the G3 rear sight is proprietary...
Anyway, the reviews on this pistol seems pretty favoreable.
I'll update the thread in the future with other pics and range report when covid calms down.

I’m glad you like your pistol. They seem like good values for the money and i kinda want one.

that proprietary sight thing frustrates me too on other taurus models. Their 1911 does the same thing and it annoys me to no end.

Nice and congrats!

And you can shoot 9mm to save on cost, especially if you reload as 9x19 and 9x21 are loaded to same OAL.

Yes, you would be headspacing off extractor but reloaded brass get shorter as they are reloaded repeatedly and many people shoot them headspacing off extractor not even knowing as most reloaders never measure resized case length for 9mm. (Worst case? Replace extractor).

BTW, wife bought Philips 3200 super auto and after testing different beans, we now only use Lavazza Barista Gran Crema. :p:thumbup:

Lucky you. In the USA, LGS hardly have any ammunition available currently and when they do, at very high prices.
Yes, I know that from internet and youtube.
Here gun shops are full of guns and ammo. Gun shops had also a lockdown on March and April. Now here the hunting season is opened so gun shops sell many rifles, shotguns and ammo for both. Pistols are less hot selling.

Congrats,

I have the G3 as well. Like the trigger on it. Mine wasn't in a fancy plastic box, but I did get a 15 and 17 round magazine.

I didn't like the sights either. Looked around in the internet and ran across Laekline LLC. I purchased a set of Lakeline sites for it. Not expensive and easy to replace.

I have heard that Tru Glo now makes sights for it, but I cannot vouch for those in terms of fitment and accuracy, but the link is below:

Enjoy.

Thanks.
I believe that the presence of the nice plastic case is to make the gun more attractive for Italian customers. In fact, the Stoeger STR9 is also sold in a very nice plastic case with all the spare backstraps.

The Italian importer chose to offer the pistol with two 15 rounds magazines but 17 rounders are available from them. The grip with the 15 rounds magazine inserted is perfect for my hand.

I don't know if I will replace the sights in the future. I hope that the plastic sights do not give me problems because, according to my way of thinking, spending more money on this gun would nullify the sense of having spent little money to buy it.

I had to cancel my trip to Italy in April due to COVID. Like your pistol. Haven’t ever considered that model Taurus. Maybe I should.
