So my buddy got this in a trade and sold it to me for 450$.

Check this thing out. It's a marlin 1895G that has drc xs sights, big loop lever, hammer assist doohickey (very technical term), and a forend that looks right out of the future. The guy rattle canned the stock black after he failed at poking out a fish pattern on the side of the stock with what I can only assume was a thumb tack.

The action is really smooth though. Figure I couldn't go wrong with a 45/70 up here in Alaska. Plus lever actions are just so darn cool!

Now I just need to figure out what to do with that stock...

I forgot to add that the end of the barrel is ported...but i dont think they came like that so im assuming it was drilled out? Not too sure but it definitely makes me nervous to take it hunting with no ear protection thats for sure.

The STP was factory ported I think with the 16.25 inches barrel. The fore stock may have come from RPP. Surely he did not throw away the original piece? I am not a traditionalist when it comes to lever guns but I do not care for that fore stock, just me maybe. It does make it easy to install lights or lasers for camp protection so maybe that was his thinking. Looks like it has that Bear Tooth Mercantile safety delete that installs the saddle ring.

Those saddle rings make awesome single point sling attachments. I ride a '73 chest high and its the best for hands free when you want to use binos or adjust a pack without setting the rifle down.

Marlins with the MLOK forends and other space-age modifications are super hot right now among the younger crowd.

I'm not sure. This is all it came with. The barrel says 1895G so it looks like they tried to re create the dark series.

If is is a JM gun and was made around the turn of the millennium, it may have been factory ported.

The fore stock might make it easier to oil. Probably not why he did it. But in the rain might be an advantage. I don't care for lever or bolt in the rain, my pump has more exposed metal.

My hammer extension fell off. I guess I installed poorly. I carry cocked and locked, so not big deal. Hammer is not ideal with scope though.

I'm 34....do I still counts as the younger crowd? LOL. This rifle is light. I think it definitely shaves some weight off. Perfect brush gun I think.
That's what I don't want to do with a 45-70.
My opinion is. As the bullet gets heavier. The rifle is supposed to get heavier.
That doesn't look bad though. I would use it as a knock around gun.

Are we going to keep this Remlin stuff up when Ruger starts production and call then Ruglins? The best shooting and functioning Marlin I have owned since about 1973 give or take of several dozen is a Remington Marlin. I really do not care if there is an infinitesimal gap in the wood to metal when the bullet goes through about the same hole, over and over. Remington was no stranger to accuracy.

Glad you enjoy your remlin. It just isn't a real Marlin, that is all.

Boy, I hope that is not a JM. Would be a real shame. A Remlin? All it is missing is sparkles and maybe a laser.
I got kicked off marlin site for bring up all the old fixes for JM marlins posts. Amnesia .

First 2-3 years of Remington were bad. They gave me a new rifle, after what they said was a line shut down. offered me my money. I got 2 Remlins, good rifles now.

No problem buying a current marlin.

I had people trying to gouge me on JMs. I wouldn't waste my money on one, if price was high. Not to worried about if it has saddle ring, for my horse riding.
