High Quality Kinetic Bullet Puller made in the USA

My homemade "Reloader" magazine inspired one I've showed here before......it has lasted for more than 45 years.....I have improved the insides a little since then, to improve holding the shell holders, but it isn't plastic and is pretty hard to break. One improvement is that I added epoxy inserts to keep the primer centered safe in the regular shell holders. Shell holder rests on the reducer under the cap...top of picture. Red end strikes the concrete....foam inside that bigger one protects bullet. I just unscrew the bottom below the Tee and dump the bullet and primer into a small container. The I unscrew the red cap and clean things out so powder doesn't mix.

Oh almost forgot...I also put foam under the top cap, above the shell holder to keep it from bouncing and epoxy around the shellholder to center it. Just remember to coat the shell holder in vasoline before you press in the epoxy putty in or around it. So when it dries the shellholder can fall out. Steel reinforced epoxy is what I used.

Somes like it, somes think I made a pipe bomb....don't build it if you think the latter....free country.....but that may change.....

Home Made in the USA ;) (before RCBS made the first plastic one...we made these)

Do you have that article from reloader magazine? I had it and now can’t find it.

That was a long time ago....sorry. I only have the "fruits" of the article.;) I do remember I wasn't exactly pleased with how the cases were retained.....think they used clips in the ejection groove....and a rubberband? I added the method that allowed the used of regular shell holders....and that took years to think of! ;) I mean I was a kid.....

I also got around to plugging up the handle end of the Tee with something ..... first foam...later epoxy putty.

I ordered a shim kit along with the Quinetics hammer. Perhaps that will get me two working units so I will have a spare for next time.

Just following up. The Quinetics shim kit fit my "broken" hammer and it's back up and running. All is well that ends well, but I'm still convinced there has to be a better way. If I need to pull several rounds it's worthwhile to setup the press based puller but a kinetic puller still has a place on the bench.

Stupid question: Are you banging it on a piece of wood so it does not fall apart?

The Quinetics instructions say to "Rap Bullet Puller against a hard, solid, non-metallic surface". I think in their videos Quinetics rapped concrete. I believe the other kinetic puller brands recommend rapping against a wood surface.

I've rapped the anvil on a vise, but a little more gently and that worked very well, but I usually rap cement.

I use a piece of oak for mine, has worked perfectly for over 35 years. It needs to bounce a little after you hit; don't ct like your trying to drive a 16d nail with one strike.

Have you looked at the new Pile Driver Bullet Puller from Frankford Arsenal

Does anyone have one of these?
I have a bunch of 9mm I would like to pull.
They are fine and safe to shoot, I just want to change the load.
At normal primer price I would just shoot them, but with primers like they are I hate to just burn up 500.
Don't think a collet puller would work (maybe it will?), but I sure don't want to pull them with my RCBS hammer type.
No rush to change them so I could wait a year for primer supply to get back to normal (hopefully it will in a year or less) then just shoot them.
but then if the Frankford works well and is Faster and less effort than a hammer type (faster is important) then I might buy a new toy:)

Ok thanks I’ll keep looking cause I know I have it somewhere.

I'm not abusing the tool and I didn't hit it hard enough against an anvil to damage the plastic. The o-ring holding the collet together broke and the little aluminum pieces went flying. I'm just saying that this design is flawed and leaves much to be desired.

That said, I was able to repair the tool with the Quinetics kit. Would be nice to have a quality tool that uses standard shell holders instead. The cost of the repair kit was 3/4 the cost of new hammer.

I have a block of wood I rap mine on, and have only replaced it once in 30-years of infrequent use. As far as I know, anything denser than wood is a no-no.

I rap mine against the end of a 4x4 post topped off with a small piece of carpet. This works well as i haven't broken one in a long time now. Then again, i don't use the puller all that often either.

I will add that having both a kinetic and a collet puller is handy and both types of pullers compliment each other.

I have one from national metallic. Metal handle and plastic head. I was rapping it against a piece of bowling alley last night.

Those aluminum 3 piece collars are a pain. For rimmed cartridges, a simple washer type sleeve would suffice.

You broke a O Ring and lost one of the chuck pieces, Not a big deal. Not the fault of the product, If it is RCBS they will send you another one. There are actually 2-3 different sizes of "chucks" for small to large calibers.
They are all essentially the same.

It's not a hammer, and heavier is worse, not better.

The lighter the head, the faster it moves, the more momentum is stored in the bullet, the more force is applied when the head stops. It needs to be light, not heavy; aluminum might work, but I've never seen one that isn't plastic.

Buy for the warranty, and be prepared to treat it as a consumable.
Thank you. I didn't think the physics for the steel and wood hammer worked like he was saying.

I’ve had to replace the collect o rings many times in my green all plastic one I use now. But I’ve never had the collet fly apart. Guess I’m lucky.
The one I had before had an aluminum shank and it disintegrated in my hand.
Don’t know who made either one.

I still have my Quinetics and my RCBS kinetic hammers and still hate both of them.

I also have Forster's collet puller and it works great as long as there is something to get ahold of.
Those hammers are a necessary evil.

I’ve read articles about the Kinetic’s force causing a primer to detonate, thus causing a serious problem.

I've read some of those articles too.
The common thread is that the user did not use the proper (supplied) collet assemblies.
But rather used shell holders.
The round got slightly out of place & the primer hit the edge of the shell holder.

I've made more than my share of mistakes & never had one detonate.

What I'm saying is, "I'd have to see it to believe it".
Way too many lawyers involved to have all of them be defective.
(how many different brands, & how many do they sell?)

Just my 2¢ worth.
YMMV

Quinetics has their replacement collet for $11 on their site with free shipping. They claim it puts 3-4 times more force on the round so less hammering per round. Even if not, nothing to break so worth it to me as the rubber bands break at times.

I use shellholders in mine too, but I made "keepers" by coating a case and a shellholder with vasoline, then stuffing steel reinforced epoxy putty into the end, trim the extra off and let it dry. (done for each shell holder) Also the shellholder is bedded into the cap so it's held in the center......so there's zero chance of moving in the holder where a proud primer could actually hit anything but air.

That said, I wouldn't want the liability to sell even the commercial tools, because who knows what stupid things people might do with it. And for that reason, I just show you what I've used for 45 years without a problem.....and if you want to "risk" making one yourself, by first visiting Home Depot, that's on you....

Does the Uni-Chuck fit the RCBS puller?

My RCBS has lasted for over 30 yrs but I don't use it that often. I rap it on the end of a 4x4. I also found that it works best if you just use two fingers to hold it. That guarantees a bounce and they usually drop on the first or second strike.

FA kinetic puller is the only way I go. I’ve been using the same one for 12 years and it’s still going strong. I don’t pull a lot of bullets except one time that I had to pull 388 .45acp rounds looking for one possible double charge. It was a false alarm.

That, along with the rebate, swung me to choose RCBS for a number of smaller reloading items such as the kinetic bullet puller, stuck case remover kit, powder funnel kit with some drop tube sections, and a 9X19mm carbide 3 die set from RCBS while MidwayUSA had one of their free shipping for orders $49+ a few months ago. Used 9X19mm die sets were already becoming scarce and around that same price already in mid-August. If I break it I'll see how well the legendary RCBS warranty and customer service handles it.
Just remember if about the speed of impact. Not the power. 3 good licks will remove most bullets.
I broke mine pulling 8x57 surplus. The bullets were glued in place.
