Now that Sig has discontinued the excellent P239 and S&W no longer makes their 3rd generation guns what remains in the single stack compact market that has a DA trigger with a hammer? I’m aware of the Springfield Armory XD-E but the bore axis is like six feet tall and it handles like a brick.

Anything else?

Para LDA 9mm they call it a "light double action" hence LDA, don't know how difficult it would be to find one.

Don't have any personal experience in one just know of it in my searches 10 years ago for the exact same thing you are processing. I ended up with a CZ PCR but it's a slim double stack with the thin grip panels and DA/SA, not what you were looking for.

A very sad state of affairs. I concur the XD-E is an insult to ergonomics and Sig has full-on strikeritis.

The 3913/3914 is probably the smallest one out there with used market availability. The P239 variants are a bit thicker. Of course, everything is hard to find at the moment.

I too, looked into the Springfield XD-E and I came to the same conclusion you did about it, and it was right around their shenanigans as well so I wrote it off.

Too bad CZ doesn't make a single stack, that would be ideal.

Seems to me you should be looking at the Sigs, obviously they have proven themselves through the years.

Have you tried something like a BHP or CZ with thin grips? VZ and LOK make some grips that will make them very, very slim in your hand. The slides may or may not be any thicker than a single stack alternative but those guns with thin grips were slimmer than my single stack Makarov, which is another pistol that fits your description.

I had one back in the day. It was an awesome shooter.

Didnt realize they had discontinued them. I recently bought used (basically NIB though) one of the newer "Compact" models, that didn't have the silly beavertail the early ones had. I just figured they wised up and went back to the P245 style gun. I had a DAO P245 in the past too, and between the two, Id choose that. The P245's are sweet guns if you can find one.

I also had a P220 Carry when they first came out and I agree, it was a bit silly. Silly enough that Glock sorta copied it with the Glock 45. Same deal. Might as well just go with a straight up P220 or 17. They arent at all hard to carry either.

SIG always had a weird idea as to what "compact" meant, and there really wasnt a whole lot of difference in size between the different models.

Yep, its a double stack with an allloy frame and packs 15 rds. Compared to a 239, 225A-1 or 3rd gen smith, I fail to see much difference in size and weight.

I only assume he has reasons for DA and single stack. I brought up the CZ PCR earlier with the caveat of it not meeting his desires.

I’ve never understood carrying a 39 ounce steel pistol and then handicapping it with a single stack 9 mm magazine. Plus, I don’t want a single action.

Then get a lightweight. My CCO Valkyrie is 35 oz loaded with a Wilson 9 round mag and one in the pipe.

Conceals better than the 239 I had, only a few oz heavier, far superior trigger, and holds one more round.

I don’t want single stack just for the sake of single stack, it’s just that single stack should mean thinner and therefore easier to conceal. DA with a hammer is non-negotiable so that eliminates any sort of 1911 except an LDA. I think Para Ordinance went belly up with Remington so that’s probably unlikely.

I owned a full-sized LDA in 45 for several years but it was just too heavy for my liking to carry all day.

The reason I’m asking is because I periodically like to see if there’s something better than the Kahr P9 I carry now. I know it’s striker fired but it feels much more like a DA revolver trigger than a Glock. I had high hopes for the XD-E until I held one.
