Am presently considering re-barreling the 1:10 twist 22" M700 BDL .270Win - w/ a 1:8 twist 24" Bbl. for the same cartridge, except throated to the new 6.8 WESTERN specs., long-loaded (3.600" COAL) for the 160 gr. Partition, and the burgeoning crop of long/heavy/ELD .277" bullet offerings.

...in a heavy, "M40" contour.

For me, the only attraction of the 6.8 WESTERN, (outside of a 650 yd. elk rifle), would be the non-existent 170 gr. Partition at ~ 2900 fps.

A long-loaded(3.600"), 24" Bbl'ed .270Win, which will cycle through the M700 magazine, should be able to push it to at least 2800 fps, and maybe 2850.

Save me a $Grand, plus the not insignificant expense of getting into a new cartridge, and put the ole M700 back in the shooting rack.

Think I'm done.

Maybe have the chambered done in AI and get a little more capacity still. No down sides.
 
You do know that the .277SIG is a 6.8-08?
Just in a bi-metal case w/stainless steel case head loaded to ~70,000psi, and 1/8”twist?
For a hunting rifle, I’d go with the 6.8Westerner...

It’s still not settled that the DOD is going with the SIG offerings.
 
I added a 270 Win back to the hunting stable this weekend, though to be completely honest, it was more about the rifle than the chambering. The Ruger K1Bs are getting difficult to obtain. One of my huntin' buddy's favorite deer rifle/cartridge.

Sits in his tree stand, and nails'em b/t the shoulder blades from 20 feet w/ a 130 gr. Nosler BT, when they walk under him.

Like they were electrocuted...
