Can anyone recommend a good shoulder holster rig with double mag holders.?
I wear bibs for hunting....sometimes waders...so a belt rig doesn't work.
I'm thinking that a shoulder rig might be practical for road trips too. Maybe hiking on public trails where discretion is important.
I think i would use one, but i don't want to drop $100+ on a good one without knowing if it suits me.
I'm pretty close to ordering one from Amazon that is really cheap.....too cheap.
Any suggestions.?
Probably for a 1911 size gun.

I your want a concealable one, it's going to be leather, and thus not cheap. I got one of my shoulder holsters at a gun show, sort of a 'universal, one size fits all' velcro adjustable one, but it has worked with all my handguns. I still use it for carrying while motorcycling. I have two other options, one being a 1940's or so non-military shoulder holster for a 4" revolver, or a 1911. My son got this one for me, and the leather was hard as a rock. It took about 3 months of mink oiling it to get it pliable again. The other option I have is a 5.11 'shoulder holster' T-shirt;

Might not work as well with bibs, though.

Do not get a cheap nylon one if you plan on concealing it.

Shoulder holsters aren't my thing, but you need to realize a shoulder holster is the equivalent of a holster, belt, and mag pouch. Generally, a holster is $80 - $100, belt $80 - $100, and a mag pouch $50. I'd adjust my price window accordingly.

High Noon has a couple of levels, their good one the Under Taker https://www.highnoonholsters.com/leather-holsters/shoulder-rigs/under-taker

their "I'll get this while I'm waiting on my good shoulder holster" version, the Under Armor https://www.highnoonholsters.com/leather-holsters/shoulder-rigs/under-armor

Andrews Custom has quite a few options for shoulder holsters, but they are not cheap http://www.andrewsleather.com/traditional.htm

Simply Rugged has the Cuda and DEFCON 3 and a few other's that you can wear as belt holsters, but then add the "Chesty Puller" system to make it a chest holster, so you get some more utility out of the holster when you don't need it as a shoulder/chest holster.

I have started using the Maxpedition Remora as a shoulder holster, they are discontinued but still in stock for the moment, I just ordered one yesterday (my third) and 3 in stock.

I add a Maxpedition Gear Sneak velcro holster in the inside pocket as well as Mazpedition Janus Extension Pocket, molle water bottle and sunglass holders: I added the holster, extension, water bottle holder and sunglass holder to all three of my Remoras.

Probably for a 1911 size gun.

With Amazons return policy what’s to lose. Buy try return.

I have an old GI leather tanker holster for a 1911. I've been thinking about switching to a beater springfield milspec 1911 as a hunting sidearm with this holster. I have been carrying an old Glock 23 in a kydex belt holster, but I'm afraid it could make some noise moving around on a ladder stand.

well...it's like this...
Our freezers (two) are full of beef. Both sons are full too.
#1 son shot a big buck this am.
#3 son is hunting too.
My shoulder is trembling with fear that I might actually touch off this 12ga ultralight slug gun .....
Its gonna have to be a stud before I pull the trigger.(or a slamdunk)
I may store my venison on the hoof until late in the season.

I've been seriously thinking about a tanker.
Belt rigs just don't do great in a deerstand. But.....i once attached a cheap nylon holster to the shoulder strap ofmy safety harness. That was a pretty slick rig!

I have one of the really cheap ones. It works ok for large pistols like a 1911 or my 92 pistols, even works for most K and L Frame revolvers but balance gets to be an issue there with anything short on barrel length. If you are big or will be wearing it over heavy clothing then you might have trouble.

I looked up one like mine. I like it and use it, but know it’s limitations. For hunting purposes I like it. For anything else I don’t. Mine is very similar to this thing, but it came from Walmart as an airsoft holster. Years ago, I bought another one at US Cavalry that was identical except for stitching pattern. Both were in the $15 range so pricing doesn’t seem out of line on these. If mine tears up I will gladly buy another one. A coworker actually has one like it and has asked me about working on it to extend it as he is a bit larger than I am and he knows I tinker with stuff and have modified one of mine for that very purpose.

The last deer I killed with a handgun was with a 1911 carried in one of these. Deer was at 7 yards and I was able to set the rifle in my lap, draw quickly and put 3 shots on his chest rapidly.

Thats what I was looking at, except vertical instead of horizontal.

I'm gonna catch crap for this, but i have an Uncle Mikes horizontal shoulder rig i got many years ago that was all nylon with an adjustable thumb break and an offside platform to add a mag pouch, and it worked comfortably and well for carrying my 1911 under my Alpinestars jacket when motorcycling, which i did a LOT of when i was younger. It had elastic suspender-style straps to snap into my belt and so everything stayed put pretty well. I want to say i paid about $60, but that was over a dozen years ago.

Haven't used it in a while...haven't done much riding the last few years, and when i have, my S&W Shield .45 tucks into the inside pocket of my riding jacket now...

No you won't...at least not from me! I got this Uncle Mike's shoulder holster many years ago as I was helping a gun shop owner clean and straighten up his floor stock and came across this holster. Didn't have a bag or box to go in and he didn't even know what it's price was so he gave it to me for free! Really easy to adjust and even with my Model 686 in it, it's very comfortable to wear for long periods of time.

Most comfortable shoulder holster I've owned is the Bianchi X-15, mines old and worn out after 30 years of service so I was thinking of getting a new one. Instead I bought a Coronado concealed carry leather vest, great decision most comfortable form of carry I've ever experienced.
Think + 2 sizes for a full size 1911 otherwise it might be tight in the chest.

Another option might be a chest pack. Easy access even sitting or driving, concealed, and most of them have room for other stuff like, say a trauma kit/iFAK, small binos, phone etc.

Hill People Gear kit bag comes in a few sizes and with or without molle webbing. It also can attach to their pack suspension to counterbalance a pack.

hillpeoplegear.com is currently messed up (their host got hit with ransomware attack) but here is a retailer with a few kit bags in stock.

For my money & use it would be one of these or the Kenai chest rig.

I have Andrews Monarch, and although the quality is amazing, I'm not sure I like his excessively contoured shoulder straps. Honestly I prefer straight ones. But other than that, I have no complaints. One good thing about Sam Andrews is that he's got a ton of experience, so his patterns fit oddly-shaped guns better. I had some issues with fitment of S&W Shield 45, when ordered from other leathersmiths. Andrews was 100%. However, I had to wait 3 months. Just keep that in mind.

I am not a fan of anything with shoulder straps. Wouldn't wear overalls to work in and won't wear suspenders to help hold my pants up but I decided to try a shoulder holster for my 1911 to use while walking the boonies a few years ago. At least I bought a cheapie nylon rig. I quickly found that I really don't care for the weight of a 1911 and two mags hanging on my shoulders no matter how handy it is for poking around in the mesquites and shinnery oak plus crawling in and out of my jeep. Wimp that I am I gave it to my son. He won't use it either.

One of the major problems with all the shoulder rigs is that they all want a belt attachment. Which is going to be an issue in bibs--as OP mentioned.
I have, from more than thirty years ago an Uncle Mike's shoulder rig. It's not among my faves. Fully loaded, it's only annoyingly floppy unhitched from a belt.
I have a nice horizontal rig for my Colt Officer's, which I got as a one-off from a tack maker. Since it's a custom rig, it works well when I need it. Not hugely comfortable, nor hugely uncomfortable. Really, its weakness is the mag carrier, which ranges from extra snug to too tight.--which is related to using a saddle-maker rather than a holster maker.

I have an old GI leather tanker holster for a 1911
Those can be well-fitting holsters, but they have a drawback of not having any integral magazine carry. Mine is set up and broken in for a 1911, and only need the chest strap snapped in to don.
Some of the knock-off versions are junk, though.
There was a WWII "tanker" version which had two cross straps--collectors have made those ludicrously expensive.

The chest strap adapter for the UM84 holsters is a reasonably good rig, but getting the waist straps adjusted right is a pain. And the chest strap is set up to add a magazine carrier.
