I’ve always seen the recommendations to carry a multi tool but I have never found one that would fit in my EDC.

Last weekend I was duck hunting and went to load my Benelli at the pond and found my gun locked up. I had recently taken the trigger assembly out to oil a sticky safety and forgot to press the bolt release while reinstalling. Buddy handed me his Dime and I was able to pull the pin and reassemble and get it running.

The Dime is finally a multi tool that I can EDC. I wanted to pass it along in case anyone else is looking for a more pocket friendly option.

Gerber 30-000469 Dime Mini Multi-Tool, Black https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B006M9NIDO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabt1_EBYTFbY7ZVM5R

Dime in pocket will always beat the tool that was too heavy, that you left in the truck, or that cost so much you don't want to risk losing it. All multi-tools are compromises and Gerber's "legend" has lost its luster in recent years, but I agree that the dime is worth carrying to anyone who doesn't automatically strap on a Wingman or other full size multi-tool.

Leatherman ps4 beats the dime in every way.

Can you explain your basis for making that decision considering the knives are $20 apart in price?

"Retail package opener" is surprisingly efficient. I looked up price history, and the Dime sold at one point in 2018 for $10. Price has gone as high as $35, but is now $17-20 depending on color. I love my PS4 too, but the Dime is more likely to be in my pocket when I am afield.

Except price ;)

I looked at the PS4 pretty close before ordering the Dime but most of the reviews I found preferred the Gerber. Since I had already handled a Dime and knew I liked it was a fairly easy decision.

You're not kidding! I just looked, new leatherman prices are much higher now than when I was going back and forth on the dime vs ps4.

I have done horrible things to this leatherman, id never part with it.

I hope the dime works well for you brother, take care!

I just added a reply, but yeah man they were about the same price, maybe 5 dollars apart when I was looking years ago between the models. I'm ok with sak, but wanted pliers, the kids always seemed to need them asap.

I first got the Dime, again years ago but I immediately returned it and got the leatherman instead. I honestly can't remember why it went back other than vaguely remembering just not liking it and how it functioned. Once I got the leatherman I felt keychain carry perfection was attained.

Now, I have to add I would have a harder time today paying what the leatherman has gone up to for this model, and I'm a die hard leatherman fan.

I used to carry a Leatherman tool with me all the time. After a while I realized I almost never used it except as a pair of pliers, and surprisingly to me I used the scissors a lot. Once in a blue moon I would use the screwdriver bits but the screwdrivers on multi-tools are generally not very good tools. so after a while I stopped carrying it I haven't really missed it any.

When I carry tools in my computer bag I usually had a regular screwdriver with interchangeable bits and a pair of needle nose pliers. That was about all I really needed and it worked a ton better than any multi-tool.

Now I just carry a knife in my pocket. It's a little large and heavy and I've been thinking about getting a smaller one.

I like my Dime. Mind I'm pretty tight with a Gerber dealer, so I (occasionally) get really good deals on Gerber products.
I get them at half retail, but either way I still like Leatherman regardless of price. It's too bad because prior to the 1980's Gerber was one of my favorite brands, now not so much. I still own a bunch of Gerbers from the 1960's through the 1980's.
