My Gen 5 Glocks don't like wide meplat (flat tip, JHP) loaded longer than about 1.11" and like to give light strikes with that loading.
They're probably not chambering fully. The Gen 5 Glocks have tighter chambers than the older models and you can run into issues like that with them. I was taking a class awhile back and one guy was shooting a Gen 5. The snap caps he was using for malfunction drills wouldn't chamber in his gun. They worked just fine in everyone else's. I've seen other similar complaints since then.
Finally had the trigger return spring fail.
Fire, fire, fire....stop. slide went into battery with round in the chamber, and trigger stayed fully depressed. Douuuugh!!!!
If you hold the trigger fully to the rear and rack the slide, the trigger will reset normally, even without a trigger spring installed or with a broken trigger spring. Might come in handy someday.
I CAN, however, get an FTE if I drop a round in the chamber by hand and then close the slide on it.
Neither 1911s nor Glocks tolerate this (direct chamber loading) well. It can eventually result in damage to the extractor. Rounds should be chambered from the magazine.
Thats the same rail that broke on mine. I didn't notice until I was cleaning it after shooting it that day.
There was a known issue with a batch of Glocks where the frame rails were bent improperly, resulting in breakage. As I recall, if you have a Glock in the affected range, the factory will replace the frame at no charge.
Does losing a firing pin plunger spring count as a “Glock Failure”?
Although it is not recommended, the gun will operate properly without one. However, if there are other parts damaged or broken, the gun will no longer be drop-safe without the firing pin safety/spring installed.
Anything mechanical is bound to fail at some point, with enough use or neglect.
Yup. People who are shooting a lot of rounds through the guns with the original style coil trigger springs should keep a replacement on hand and should replace RSAs at reasonable intervals. Also, those doing holster work should change out the plastic front sights to metal.
I change RsA when I feel like it. None have likely made it to the round count Glock recommends. Ive ordered them for as little as 10 bucks at times so why wait?
If you go to a GSSF match, the match armorer will probably give you a replacement for free.
On the draw, the magazine catch sheared off and threw the inserted magazine ahead of me. I shot my one round in frustration and lost the match due to the failure. We contacted Glock and was basically told we were on our own to repair it or replace, as they refused to warranty the failure.
That's kind of an unusual. Usually if an armorer contacts Glock, they can get most parts sent to them at no charge. I know I've gotten free parts for myself and friends on a number of occasions over a period of years ranging all the way back into the 1990s just by calling and asking.
I dropped my slide while cleaning it.
Yup. When the slide is off the gun, the rail channels at the back of the slide are very vulnerable to damage. I've seen a slide or two damaged that way. The loop at the front of the slide that retains the RSA is also vulnerable, but is a bit sturdier. When you have the slide off the gun, special care should be taken not to drop the slide or hit the rail channels at the back of the slide.
Most of the time firing and striker issues with light primer hits. I have also had FTE and FTF issues.
Any specific type of ammo involved?
Lastly, I’ve run into mag catch problems where my mags would literally push themselves out of the bottom of the gun due to a failure with mag catch.
Interesting, that's not a very common issue. That's with factory magazines and magazine catches?
