Milling Glock slide for DeltaPoint Pro

I haven’t done a DeltaPoint , yet , but having the slide milled will be better than a MOS model . The MOS uses a plate . The plate screws to the slide , the sight screws to the plate . The plate doesn’t come loose , but the sight only has maybe 3 or 4 threads tops . Aluminum plates . After 400 to 500 ( possibly more ) rnds the lock tite will have to be re-new or it will come loose . Not a big deal but a dedicated slide will not have that problem and it will sit lower . I would call Cajun Gun Works but there are many good shops doing this .

If you lived around South Texas, I strongly recommend Empire. They do excellent work! They milled my G43X slide and the fit was excellent! I got the Combat Cut, where they mount the red dot all the way to the rear and move your rear sight in front of the optic:

Not sure where you got that info, but not all plates mount that way with one set of screws. If Glock mounts that way, it is a poor design. On my Q4 there are 2 sets of countersunk screws, one for the optic to plate and another for plate to slide. A milled slide does sit lower, but only about 1/4" of an inch lower than a plate. And once you mill a slide, the only optics you can use are the ones that use the same footprint as what you have it milled for. Milled for a Trijicon RMR and want to switch to a Deltapoint? Nope.

Checking with a few firearm websites, C&H Precision comes up more than once to do the milling. Starting cost is $150 to do a Glock.

I got that info from mounting a red dot on an optics ready CZ P10C . 1/4 inch lower ? The whole slide cut depth isn’t a 1/4 inch . And where did I get that info ? From milling the slide on my mill . The plates are generally .100 thick . CHP does make an excellent plate

Going off the thickest optics plate I can find. I have 3 from Walther that are .203, .208, and .280. Not including the height of the recoil pins.

One thing to consider about getting the slide milled for a Delta Point, you may want to see what other optics use the DP “footprint”.

The beauty of the MOS is you are not tied to a single optic option.

The beauty of milling the slide is the lower seat the optic will have on the gun (easier to co-witness) slide.

I have both and prefer the milled slide option, even though it’s limited. One way to help minimize the limitations is to choose a red dot with a popular footprint.

The Trijicom RMR is kinda the gold standard, and as such, has a footprint that is often copied. Holosun has an RMR footprint, as does Swamp Fox and a few others. Here is a good article on the red dots that share footprints:

Are some of you really changing optics like underwear?
I much prefer milled than my guns with plates. All those extra plates, that will never be used are just wasted space.
Buy a top tier Optic and run it till it breaks.. rinse and repeat.

The plates ( my apologies) are slightly over .100 . One is from C+H precision the other one I’ll just call brand X , no where near as nice .Even on the CZ P10C the slide cut isn’t 1/4 inch . Look at the Glock picture to see the slide cut depth . I even had to shorten the firing pin plunger at that depth . The Trijicon requires a sealing plate as the bottom of it is exposed electronics and the Glock slide is narrower than the sight . I used a Burris on the Glock so I didn’t have to use a sealing plate . I made a sealing plate for the CZ P10C , not a big deal but it raises the sight and it’s still lower than the optics ready CZ P10C . I don’t doubt the Walther is deeper ( don’t know ) as I have seen 1911’s with deep cuts . But I damn sure wouldn’t use a .200 plate ( or especially a .280 )when I could sink the sight that much lower . A .200 plate would be .050 above the top of the slide on the Glock . A dovetail mount would be lower . After all , the gentleman did ask about a Glock .

Just out of curiosity, on your Q4 what is the depth from the top of the slide to the bottom of the slide cut ?

I know you say you don't want to get another slide but when considering the cost of getting your slide milled you are getting close to the price of another slide. I wanted to put a red dot on my G19 and MidwayUsa had a sale on Swenson slides for I believe $139 so for me for that price I went for the extra slide. Had some extra parts laying around so it didn't cost much to finish up the slide. Put a Vortex Venom on it and it is working well for me.

That website is a great resource. I like seeing more companies go with existing footprints. Cuts down on costly proprietary plates.

Walther cuts much deeper on their optic ready models. While the plate for my optic is .244" with such a deep cut, my optic plate actually sits below the slide in front of the optic. My best eyeballing puts it .023" below the slide. The rear of the sight plate is .075" above the slide. If I were using a different plate, it would sit even farther below the slide. As my .244 RMR plate is the thickest one I have. Not .280, I measured incorrectly before. Without taking off the optic, the depth of cut is somewhere around .267". In Walther vs Glock its comparing apples to apples. Long run I think having an MOS cut from the factory is the best value if you ever want to change optics to a different footprint.

139 is a good sale for an MOS slide from them. Looking now, their cheapest red dot slide is 220 (out of stock).

139 is a good sale for an MOS slide from them. Looking now, their cheapest red dot slide is 220 (out of stock).

At .267 I would have to remove another .117 off the firing pin block on top of the .025 I already removed to sink the sight that low on a Glock . Apples to apples ?

Glock and Glock plates vs Walther and Walther plates. Walther has more slide material to cut deeper cuts with. Apples to apples was comparing a Walther Q4 to a Glock 19 MOS, or something similar.

These fellas did mine, and I’m thrilled with the work.

Cost was $150ish total (no plate) with a turnaround time of under a month from the day I ordered until it was back on my doorstep. I also sent the RMR and suppressor height sights with the slide and they installed the sights, mounted the optic and had me within a couple clicks of zeroed at no additional charge.

I’ll use them again when I get around to doing my G17.

L and M precision did mine, but for an RMR. I'm sure they can handle any footprint.
