I have a NIB FEG pjk-9hp Browning hi-power clone that came with one low cap 10 round magazine.
I bought some Browning HP magazines from mec-gar but they do not lock up in the gun. Seems like its just shy of catching..

On a side note I have a Arcus 98 HP clone that the mec-gar magazines fit and and function in just fine.

The factory mags from the arcus don't latch up in the FEG either.. But the mec-gar browning hp mags fit and function in the Arcus.

From everything I read on the net the FEG pjk-9hp are supposed accept the browning hi-power magazines and is a supposedly a 1:1 clone of the true Browning hp..

Here's the other kicker.... with dial calipers the specs on the stock feg magazines match the Mec gar mags damn near to a tee from base plate lip to the top and bottom of the magazine catch cut out and everything... So I am not sure what gives. Anyone ever have a issue with this? The catch cut out in the stock feg 10 rounder mag is exactly the same size as the mec-gar so it shouldn't be a oversize magazine release in the FEG pistol itself..

Sure would like to get a standard cap magazine to fit this thing. Where should I start on this ?

Thanks in advance and sorry for the long drawn out post.

The magazines should work. Either the gun (specifically the mag catch) or the magazine is out of spec. If the Arcus mags don't fit the FEG, and the Mec Gars don't fit the FEG (and work fine in the Arcus), then it sounds like the problem is likely with the FEG. I'd take some measurements and make sure all is well but ultimately I'd probably file just a bit off the bottom of the mag catch as that likely will get it accepting the proper mags. Alternatively, since it should indeed be a 1:1 clone, if you were averse to modifying the one you have you could just get a Hi Power mag catch from another source and modify that one (or check to see if they mags fit just by swapping the catch).

They seem to go for about $40 new. Sarco has some used ones for $20 but from the photo they look to be in pretty rough shape (and at this immediate moment there are some for $10 with free shipping buy it now on Ebay . . .)

Just trying to eliminate causes...are you sure your FEG is an actual BHP clone? The "pjk-9hp" label was applied to a number of FEG models, by the importer, one of which was a double-action S&W clone. Can you post pics of the pistol?

The P9R is the S&W internals gun that looks like a BHP. It was marked MBK-9HP by KBI.

Afety I would also remove the magazine disconnect safety feature. Instructions on YouTube.

Thanks all. I'll order a new BHP mag catch and see if that will work for me. The Arcus has had the Magazine disconnect removed and it has a hair trigger.. I despise that term but man it's super light. On the pull gauge its at 3.5 lbs and it hasn't had any other work other than the disconnect removed. I don't have a issue with it but I don't let the newbs handle it.

You might try taking the hi power mag apart and just put the mag body in the FEG to see if it locks in the gun. Maybe you can see why it doesn't. You could also do this with the slide off of the gun.

Does that Arcus pass the click test?

I dunno. I have never heard of that test . I am not well versed on the BHP model of pistol. I'm tempted to put the mag disconnect back in it. I have the parts in a baggy somewhere. I just plink with it. It's a pretty accurate pistol. Makes me even look like a decent shooter.

I was able to get some free time and pull the arcus catch out and install it in the FEG.

It'll accept all the mags now! And fires and functions with them. Big Thanks to MGMORDEN for sending me the link to the real browning mag catches on ebay. I ordered one of those and will put it in the feg. Crosses fingers!

The FEG mag catch is some .040" bigger than the arcus catch. So therein lies the issue. Also is looks as if someone fluffed and buffed the FEG Mecgar 10 rd mag to get it to work with the oversize mag catch . I didnt notice the notch bing slightly enlarged and reblued till today...

Hopefully this new catch fixes it all or out comes the dremel!

Thanks for everyone's help.

Click Test, as described here on Arf dot com (https://www.ar15.com/forums/handguns/The-Browning-High-Power-and-the-Click-Test/39-114948/) :

As for the click test, anyone who owns a high power should test their gun.

With the firearm unloaded or empty, pointed in a safe direction,, cock the hammer, put the safety on, pull the trigger.
Disengage the safety and apply pressure to the hammer in a cocking manner, while listening very closely, or watching the sear.
If you hear a click or see the sear move, your safety is not completely engaging the sear. This is very common in BHP designs. Most require material added to the sear, as the safety can only have so much material before it will not go in the frame.
