Oh look....another 6.5. This time by vortex.

from what I've read (and the fact they had to ream their powder funnel LOL) they're using ultramag size brass, slightly shorter than a .264 Winchester. That should give it nearly identical, or perhaps slightly more powder capacity than the.264....so about +/-10gr more than the 6.5-284s capable of running.....
The load range they were running in the video i watched was about what id expect from the lower capacity -284 tho.
also...is it just me or are these guys REALLY not handloaders, much less wildcatters lol.

I think it's for people that are never happy with what they have. Or a gun guy like most of us that want's an excuse for something new that goes bang .I remember the day when I had it all with a 30-06, 12 gauge and .22LR. I was ready for anything. I don't even know what's is hiding in my safe right now or loaned out to relatives.

So in that basic range of cartridges we have factory rounds in the 6.5PRC, 6.5RPM, .264 Winchester, 26Nosler, and at the top end 6.5-300WBY. Plethora of existing wildcats like the Leopard, and 6.5-300WM, and im sure others im not thinking of......

I take it back, these guys are Wildcaters (bitchcaters?) of the highest order! and now im hooked......

In an effort to promote less negative attitudes towards the never ending stream of new cartridges of questionable value I think I will respond with:

Yup. That now exists.

In regards to it’s likeness to the .264 Winchester, it has become popular to “fix” the belted magnums. The .375 Ruger did it well. This and the 300 PRC are a little more dubious on paper in that regard. In the end the guns will be reamed with a throat for long and heavy bullets and faster twist rifling too so those “problems” are also “fixed”

Twist rate - is a good point.

Thank you.

(Although, from the size of the case, it probably won't last long anyway.)

:D

I sort of wish I had a use for these kinds of cartridges but alas I don't. I have the classics, 30-06. 270 win, 223/556 and even a "new-fangled" 6mm Creedmoor, but they rarely get used. The 6mm Creedmoor gets to the occasional PRS match but I don't shoot those much (yet) and for hunting I like to use "weird" cartridges that are typically shorter range cartridges simply because where I hunt 150 yards is a long shot.

I know enough to appreciate what they are doing and admire the work and though I have little use for it (currently) I am not going to curmudgeon it because something else fits my needs or interests me more.

Its based on RUM/Jeffery so it has that going for it... :D Will be interesting to see if it makes it to SAAMI status.

Do we have specs yet? Case volume, max pressure, twist rate etc? I did not see that in the one article I found.
