I was wiping down my collection tonight while watching the football game. I have been thinning the herd a little as I am aging and saving mostly favorites these days. As I came across a certain pistol I own, it occurred to me that it might be a candidate to let someone else enjoy. However as I wiped it down with an oily rag I was reminded how comfortable it felt in my hand and how comfortable it is to shoot. The pistol wasn't an expensive firearm. In fact it was bought as a surplus pistol. But it is in great condition, has never failed function, and is easy to clean. The pistol has earned my adoration and respect despite the lack of a pedigree. I fell in love with it all over again! Then I put it back in the box and left it out of the safe to shoot again during the holidays.

Have you ever fell in love with a firearm a second time after not seeing it recently? It wasn't a Browning, Colt, Beretta, or one of the other blue blood names. I don't mind telling you it was a Star BM 9mm. Just a handy pistol that works great and didn't break the bank. Thanks for letting me share my story with you.

I've been wanting to pick one of those up for a long time. Just seems like I have that niche filled with an Astra A70. But those Star BMs just seem to sing a sirens song to me. Nice pistol you have there.

I use to have a Star Model B, sort of like the bigger, older brother to your Star BM. It was a very reliable and durable service pistol that was always my go-to choice when graduating beginner shooters from rimfire to centerfire pistols. Hang on to your Star as they certainly don't make them like that anymore and it's still a viable choice for the range, home defense, and concealed carry.

I can’t say I have but I have been seen repeatedly with some ugly ones...

Not sure if I’d have the Star out as much if mine was in that good of shape.

Thank You! I have actually bought three of them! I liked the first one so much I eventually bought two more. Each of them I fixed up with the cobolo grips and an extra mag like you see in the picture. I gave one of them to a close colleague of mine as a retirement gift. Another went to my son-in-law as his first firearm. The one in the picture is all I have left now. I think I will just keep it. :)

Absolutely good guns. In the past I owned several models ,and they all treated me well. All gone now as I have been doing the same as the OP.

Winchester 94 in 45 Colt ( pre safety trapper )
Traded it off to a close friend years ago. Recently got it back.
Just a great all round rifle. Fun to shoot, accurate and easy on the shoulder

I' too, have a Star BM, having acquired it as a result of a post here in the "Group Buys/Deals" section. First one, non-functioning, was a beater, and it went back to the dealer. They replaced it with a hand picked one for my trouble, and it was well worth the second FFL fee I had to pay. Like you, I dressed it with their upgraded grips and a second mag. Outstanding gun. What a sweet shooter. I'd love to carry it, but as a leftie, I see the lack of a right hand safety to be a detriment for me. That said, though, she is a wonderful soft shooting range gun.

Had two Glocks years ago and hated them, sold them off. Now with the single stack variations I'm liking them ,have a 48 and am gonna pull the trigger on a 30sf. Old Glocks for my hand size we're like holding a block of 2x4. Now fit like a glove and loving it.

Same here. I've considered buying one, and may yet. I just can't make myself "pull the trigger". Were I to, I'd definitely outfit it as the OP's with the cocobolo grips. The only thing that really stops me from it is the fact that I don't know anyone that has one. You can read online reviews all day long, but I'd like some real-world, first hand experience with one.

As far as the original question, yes. I fall in love with this one every time I take it down:

I wound up scoping it last month, and it's got a date with the gun doc after the first of the year for a recoil pad.

Yep, a Kahr CM9. I had one and sold it for a Jframe 642 (poor decision making skills I showed that day). Buddy I sold it to let me shoot it again at the range..yep, still shaking my head at myself to this day. Short of a Sig P365 it is the best IWB carry gun I have ever had the pleasure of shooting.

Yeah, I fall in love with my marlin 39A every time I hold it. It will go a year or so without emerging but once in hand again , it's all I want to shoot.

The other one is my Mossberg bolt action 410, it was dirt cheap and is an oldy that doesn't get much use but when I start shooting it magic happens, just can't miss. It's just one of those guns that isn't worth $100 but I wouldn't sell for $1000, something special that can't be described.

I know the feeling.

My AMT BackUp .45
My old Charter *Target* .44
Taurus .38 5-popper
CZ 83

Any of which can go years untouched or even looked at by me and yet when they do catch my eye, or hand, I am immediately reminded why it was that I bought them and why I have not sold them over the decades.

Also, a Llama .38 Super. BEAUTIFUL and beautifully shooting gun but a Mexican Cowboy I know loved it more and given his givens, I was grudgingly happy to sell it to him.

He has it still, after 16 or so years.

Todd.

Thanks for the link. I enjoyed reading the review. However, the reviewer evidently didn't spend as much time with the Star BM pistol as one would think when writing about it. The magazine disconnect link is easily removable, and is the first thing I did with mine. Without it the magazine drops out of the pistol without any assistance. The pistol functions just fine without it. Secondly I don't know what he is referring to about pushing the mag release button to load a new magazine into the pistol. I have not experienced that difficulty with mine. Maybe I was just lucky. I just did a detailed cleaning and lube. Shoots just fine so far. Granted I don't remember shooting hollow points in mine.
