It was raining.....

So I spent the day tinkering with and shooting my airguns.

My qb78 has gotten a recent tune-up so I just practiced positions with it on my steel plate at 30yds.


When I finally got bored with that (after taking this small spot of sun to go tape up my truck's windows again), went to work on my Crosman Quest 1000.
I did a lube/tune on the gun a couple of months ago and have shot it some since. It's actually a nice fun gun to shoot. The slap it gives that little plate is impressive.
Unfortunately, it's one fatal flaw is the trigger, something I can't ignore. So today I broke it down again, cleaned and polished all the contact surfaces, and installed a trigger adjustment screw.
I didn't adjust the tension of the springs, simply because I'm not super familiar with these guns trigger mechs, and while reducing engagement, don't want to make them bump sensitive.
The only issue with the trigger screw is the safety only works with the trigger its forward most position and it's a looooooong 2 stage. So no safety, but then I've owned a few Nagants, and my QB hasn't had a safety since 2011 or so.
I also added a peep sight that I had laying around from my old TF79 air rifle. I wish I had the rest of the parts, this was actually a really nice sight.





And last but not least I shortened the barrel on my XS25.
It's cut and faced and crowned at 13" but the job I did wasn't that good. I'll rent an extra .22 pilot and redo the crown next time I have to rent tools.
The balance is much nicer than it was with all that weight another 6" far there out, and if anything I expect to GAIN velocity. Hopefully, accuracy isn't horribly impacted...but again if it is I can fix it later.

While I was waiting for the Pizza guy I also re-contoured the front of the stock and gave myself a bit more room for my trigger finger on the right side.

They can be a real blast, and you dont need to spend a bunch to try them.
Pretty much all the over the counter spring/nitro guns shoot fairly well, as do the multi pumps, and co2 guns.

I happen to really LIKE the XS-B25 ive got, as well as the QB78 family of rifles, so those are what i usually recommend. Honestly tho most of the available adult airguns work well enough to be fun and very effective as hunting tools.

Much like shooting a 22 rimfire at 200yds, plinking with an accurate airgun at 100 can be awfully entertaining.

Then theres the big pcp like my .357 bulldog. I take that to the range and flip hostage poppers at 100yds off hand. Clang of those 145gr lead slugs hitting the popper is actually more impressive than from a handgun or rifle because the bulldog is really bloody quiet.
Down side is I only have a pump, so 6-9 shots is all im willing to work for.

I might, it would give me an excuse to get other PCPs as well. Ive taken a pig and sheep with the bulldog so far, need to get out and use it more offten.

Yep, the other ones got blown up, but that one soldier on lol. There's a little mound of splatted pellets below the plate.
That would be a lot of fun. I need to move that plate back a ways, it's not very challenging at 30yds. If it did have a center swinger it would be a whole different game I think.


It appears my slight lopsided facing job didn't cause too much issue with the accuracy of the XS.
I was plinking at a golf ball at 45yds with both the QB and the XS. I even took a video thru my Spotting scope, which was a good thing because what I THOUGHT were hits on the ball, was actually me missing and hitting the wire it was hanging from.

I bought a whole pile (like 500) little plastic "fantasy" miniatures for D&D right before the covids.....turns out they are almost as fun to shoot as to build armys with. I set them in a box so that they dont go flying everywhere.
The daisy 747s are such cool little single strokes, and would be perfect for decimating herd of gobins or skelletons....or whatever these guys are supposed ro be.

Im not actually sure on the legality of discharging a firearm on residential property here. As far as I know its perfectly legal as long as the bullet dosent leave your property.
But it wouldnt be safe where I live, i dont even fire my bulldog in the yard except to chronograph, and then its fired straight into a cinder pile.

Its staying in its crater so far.....never know when Madame Pele will decide to go for a stroll tho.
No no noticable effect near us, but he winds blowing the other way.

There isnt a whole lot of stuff right round the volcano, but the ash and crappy air quality can cause issues for everyone including animals. I havent seen any reall panicky stuff from the 4 leggers, or birds, but im sure anything in the area moves out for a while anyway.
