Took my new Ruger Predator in 308 out yesterday for it's initial shooting. I have the mag well conversion kit on order from Ruger which will allow me to use AI style 5 and 10 round mags.

Yesterday..

Mine-Glock 17, Uberti Thunderer, Ruger 10/22
Son's-Glock 45, Glock 48, Ruger Mini-14, S&W 686/7

Beautiful day..Roosevelt National Forest.

Sighted in my Marlin 60 for an iron sight rimfire competition that was then cancelled. Oh well, it was worth it to know I can hit those little 1" stickers every once in a while.

Also rough sighted my 20" AR with it's new carry handle sight. 4 shots had it right where it needs to be at 50 yards. I'll fine tune a bit at 150 next weekend and call it good.

Also did a function check with my M&P 9 and Shield with my most recent batch of hand loads. 12 rounds through both guns with no failures, other than my sight alignment.

Sunday morning my wife, one of her co-workers and I went to the indoor range and took a bunch with us. two 45acp's, four 9mm and two 380's. Shot up a bunch of oddball 45acp I had loaded, a few boxes of 9mm and all the 102gr cast lead 380acp I had loaded.

Our friend that went with us this was actually his very first time ever shooting anything. He was shooting and I was instructing him with his SR9E that he purchased from me as I had no use for it and actually neither the wife or I liked shooting it. He did very well with it and but everything on the target @7yds. When finished he was excited and wants to do it again. He also really liked my full size metal frame Witness 45acp.

Ruger Mark IV Standard. The Volquartsen Reduced Power Spring was tested.

>> It seems to reduce the issues by about 75% <<. All glitches have been Double-Feed "jams". Aren't you glad you don't need to guess, to try to understand what 'jam' ;) actually means in this scenario?

The only ammo tested was what has caused freq. problems: 'blue box' Federal bulk and Automatch ammo. Tested about 50 rds. of each, thanks to planning years ahead with ammo.
With the original factory OEM recoil spring, very few issues ever take place with Golden Bullet, and are almost never seen with Win. Super X or Herter's.

UPDATE: After cutting off about 1/2" from the Reduced power recoil spring (had to cut it with the Dremel 'stone'),
the

double-feeds..... have Stopped. Ammo tested was the always-weak (until today) Federal Automatch.

On Monday I took my new Ruger American Ranch in 556 and my new Maverick 88 12 gauge to the outdoor county range. One of the range officers helped me get the new scope for the Ruger sighted in (it was way off). The Ruger shoots great (much better than I can shoot).

The Maverick 88 worked great as well. Only put about 25 rounds through it (mostly Rem target loads but I fired about 7 00 buck and a few mini shells), but I don't have a large supply of any 12 gauge shells.

Thursday I hit the indoor range with my S&W 625 in 45ACP and my Rossi Circuit Judge. I discovered my DA shooting skills have gotten weak. My eyes also don't like the all black sights on the 625, I was having issues getting a decent sight picture.

I put some Win SuperX 000 buck and the PDX1 3 disk 410 SD ammo through the Circuit Judge to pattern them.

Shot 45 rounds through my Kimber 1911 45 acp.
Shot 44 rounds through my Virginian Dragoon in 44 magnum.

Brass from 1911 was not to worry about in the snow....may try to retrieve it come springtime.
It was a nice day to get out to shoot. +35 degrees F. today.
May be 100 degrees colder come Sunday, Monday. -60 degrees or better with the windchill is in the forecast. BRRRRRRRRRRRRR!
25 years ago on February 2nd it was -60 degrees in Tower, MN. New state record where my job shop was / is located.

Mamba and Mark IV with Irons.jpg
Played with the boys today. Fired about 300 rounds of Federal AutoMatch and CCI-SV. I really like the SV but don't have a lot of it.

Both guns work great for me at 25 yards. I like the skinnier sight on the 5.5 inch target barrel. The fiber optic on the Black Mamba is huge but you can't miss picking it up.

nhgalPy7zMe.jpg Why not just be frank? :)

AMD-65 by TGI, in 7.62x39: "SA 2000 M" stamped underneath the receiver. A 'cheek riser' such as this type is about $40 and easy to attach. Mine (from AMD Tech) provides an ok, comfortable "cheek weld". Far better than none.
Many of the muzzle brakes on the TGI versions, which make the barrel 'legal' (non-SBR) at 16.25" length, have a single, small spot weld, many of which are known to crack. I factored in the possible high (local) gunsmith repair cost Before buying the rifle-just in case.

Lots more fun than the AR-15 I traded for it in Dec. 2016, and an added bonus is that my (TGI) AMD has a much better, really smooth trigger.

M&P .22 handgun (standard size). Huge numbers of people new to guns -the types who want to learn- might not recognize that simply saying " M&P .22" can mean a rifle--- Or a handgun.
Let's be clear, so that They can learn, and benefit.

Hit the range yesterday to check the zero on the Savage Rascal I scoped last summer. Still right on, and it wears an ultra cheap 4x scope. Never realized the true accuracy of this thing until it got a scope. Although this spring I may "unscope" it and go back to the excellent aperture (peep) sight it came with. Also brought the Henry H001 .22 lever gun and .22 Ruger Single Six for some plinking and forgot to get a picture of them.. Main reason for the range trip was to chronograph 3 different loads in the 7mm-08 T/C Encore. Was 20 degrees at 9 a.m. and up to 22 degrees by noon when I left. Survival gear included a thermos of coffee. Was snowing for the first hour or so and I was afraid to set up the chronograph..... If snow gets down in the two sensors I don't know if they'll be affected by water later when the snow melts? Wasn't gonna risk it but then the snow stopped. IMG_0883.JPG ...... IMG_0872.JPG ...

It's been a while since it's been out of the safe but today I brought my S&W 617 with me to the range.

I had finished working on the trigger, fitting a new hammer from Apex Tactical and getting the action down to 7 1/2 pounds double action. I tested Federal BYOB 36 grain bullets, Blazer 40 grain and Federal AutoMatch. The BYOB and Blazers worked 100 %. I had a lot of missfires from the AutoMatch.

I also shot my Black Mamba with the same loads. Again Federal BYOB and CCI Blazers were 100% but the AutoMatch gave me fits. No problem, I have enough of the other stuff that the AM would not be used for matches, just from practice. 617 W target-DESKTOP-5PV86M8.jpg Black Mamba Stoner Grips 11 2020.jpg
