Anyone helping to ease ammo demand?

Hi all,

I am not looking to buy, just looking to see if you know anyone who is selling off part of their ammo and/or reloading component stash. The way I am thinking about this is that for any ammo and/or reloading components that are released from a someone's personal stash, those sales help satisfy some small amount of market demand. Granted I know that demand is crazy high right now, but every little bit helps.

I have always kept a good supply and have decided to advertise some of my small pistol primers for sale at around $150 and $200 per 1,000. There are folks ready to deal at that price. I saw some auctions online with bids at $250 per 1,000, granted those were srp and I am selling spp. I also saw 400 count of CCI 500 SPP with high bid of $155, which equates to $387 per thousand.

I bought these primers about 7 years ago at $20 a brick and just added them to my pile. I figure it is a good time to sell 10,000 or 20,000 primers, keep back enough for myself for a few years supply and pocket a few thousand. I am not desperate for the money, but I did buy a house in 2020 and I am currently gutting it. Got a tool and materials and supply list a mile long.

I think I may also sell some 223 and 22lr. I've got a ton of 22lr, which can probably fetch 15 cents per round right now.

Anyway, are any of you doing the same or have any friends who are starting to sell part of their stash? Assuming you have enough that you feel comfortable selling a bit, at what prices would you start sell ammo and primers, or other reloading components?
 
I sold some 7mm-08 and 7mm Mauser reloading stuff today. I’d picked it up over the years in various deals and it’s just collecting dust. Figured now’s as good a time as any to sell. I think it’s the first time I’ve sold any reloading components. I’ve traded some before but never sold.

If a ran into someone willing to pay $100 per K for large pistol primers I’d be willing to sell some. Same goes for .22 lr at $75 a brick. It just seems like too much of a hassle to mail ammo or to try and sell primers...
 
Have been selling some components and I traded some 556 I was never going to shoot for a pistol over the summer. Ammo prices have risen so much I am thinking about going through my stash and seeing what I don't need. It is a pain to ship, though.
 
I sold off 1000 each of 9mm and .223 early on in the pandemic, when shortages were just starting. $15 a box for brass 9mm, $10 a box for steel .223. A profit at the time, obviously would be a bargain now.

I recently sold a .308 rifle, and offered 200 rounds of brass .308 at a reasonable price, which the buyer took.
 
My LGS told me they were getting some primers in last Thursday so I made sure I went in even though I'm not out, I just don't have as big a supply as I'd like. Turns out all he got was CCI 41's and the price was $150/1000 which I thought was too high so I passed on them.

I've given it some thought since then and I'm afraid that after today things might get even worse so when he opens in about an hour I'm going to buy some if he has any left.

It's hard to know what to do as my crystal ball is very cloudy in regards to the future availability of components.
 
I have been helping others. I sent someone here 100 30-06 empties at no charge. I am trading some 30 cal bullets with someone here as well. I am gong to load up some 30-06 for a friend in NC who can't find ammo. He is coming to NY for a visit. We can test then. Shared some 223 ammo with a close friend. Yes, I could sell some stuff and make some cash. I don't really need anything at this point so why bother, I get more enjoyment helping someone when I can. I have more than I need of a lot of items. My 87 year old dad has also been giving me more than I can use of some items.

This is the thing. Sure, it's tempting right now to sell off part of your supply. Prices are extremely high, so, for those who bought low, now is the time. But I also feel like, for most of us, we will eventually have sellers remorse. At any price.
 
Even when supply catches up with deman I doubt prices will go back to what they were pre-Wuhan. I'm keeping and shooting all of mine. I do take an extra box to indoor matches for anyone who might need rounds to complete the match. Pre-flu pricing.
 
I need very little 'new' ammunition. I have a stash of the practice variety and I don't shoot a vast volume of it every week. Most of ammo I have in (relative) surplus is dedicated 'defense' ammo, hollow points and such. I'm not going to sell that off for someone just to burn through thinking it's fun or practice. Aside from that, the hollow point type is more expensive than ball, and I'm not going to sell it at the cheaper price.

I had a surplus of primers. Mostly small rifle and some small pistol. I did sell some of that to a couple friends of mine, but based on the price I paid; not scalper prices. (I sold it all, I simply do not load anything for which I need those.) I have what I think is enough LR and LP primers to see me through the current difficulties.

.22lr ammo I have, but will get more when it is available. I'm down to less than 2,000 rounds. I only shoot about 100 rounds a month, but that will likely increase. But not until the supply loosens up to find me a 'grown up' .22lr rifle.
 
Sitting here looking at powder I have. Some of these containers date back to the mid 90s and it is powder I will likely never use. A few weeks ago I gave away 5 LBs of black powder, I don't even own a black powder gun. Once I sort the powder I will likely list it and sell it at $12 a pound for the entire lot, I won't piece part it out. Quite a bit of VihtaVuori powder in the pile. I have been giving away other stuff and I figure at 70 years old with the stock I have I can shoot till I am dead. Anyone buying the lot is welcome to sniff test and break the seals on the cans jugs and assorted containers. If we figure the powder is bad and I have yet to find any bad I'll just subtract it and we can dump it. I haven't bought anything through the last two shortages and just piling this stuff up is crazy.

I thought about taking advantage of the current market - particularly on some ammos in which I am seriously underinvested.

Then, I thought better.

You see, as an adult, I have lived in the trifecta of hell in; Minnesota, Massachusetts AND California and with what may be coming this month.... I'll be taking ZERO chances on getting caught short if legislation by decree impacts ammunition nationally in the future.

Ive given away more than I've sold lately. I've picked up ammo that other people have asked me to keep an eye out for, then let them reimburse me. Other than that, no. I'm not helping the shortages any because for the foreseeable future, I'm able to shoot just as much as I ever have...and I'd like to keep it that way.
 
Just seen a guy sell 8,400 srp for 300.00 on a local forum. Didn't last long.

I have sold a few boxes of ammo for guns that I no longer own. Can’t seem to find anybody willing to pay much for 10mm though. Seems it may still be in stock. Oh well, it’s not eating anything, and I may buy another 10mm someday.
