Better reason to get a non-semi (bolt, lever, etc) is that they will be quieter and more reliable suppressed. Not a huge difference but worth it in my mind. Can get that "hollywood quiet) if the bolt on the semi isn't moving around and making noise while letting a bit of gas/noise out of the breach.
Again, not huge and it depends on your use case. Now, if you want a good reason to buy something else. YES a semi will be rendered useless within 50rds (totally kidding but you can cut and paste if you need justification from an unknown guy on the web

Yes! Of course it is a good reason to get another one.
They totally get dirty quickly and become inoperable, and you need to buy a new rifle.

Yes, semi-autos will run way dirtier suppressed, no matter what species they are.
Some hosts are much louder than others, so do your homework. Heavier bolt=slower breech opening=quieter. Higher spring rates will slow opening slightly by more rapidly decelerating the bolt, but bolt weight has a lot more to do with it, stops it from achieving high velocity in the first place.
Incidentally, the cheap old Remington 522 Viper is a particularly quiet semi auto host with a fairly heavy bolt and polymer receiver that seems to absorb a lot of the bolt noise normally transmitted to the shooter through metallic receivers.
Where pistols are concerned, as fun a host as it may seem, take a hard pass on the Kel Tec CP33. Lots of port noise, as loud at shooter's ear as some 9mm hosts. The medium & large Beretta pistols are fantastic hosts, from the 70/71 to the 87 to the NEOS. So are the S&W victory pistols. Buckmark is solid. Ruger Mk series are OK, not great, but not bad. Pocket size guns are hit and miss.

Cheap rifle suggestion that does not need to be overlooked... RIA m14y. Factory threaded 22lr mag fed bolt rifle. Hundred bucks. Hard to beat. Only downside is that some parts around the mag are plastic.

Yes, they are good little rifles. But be advised that they're "youth" models. It's a bit of a misnomer, because the grip size and trigger reach are still full size and too large for kid's hands, but they lobbed a couple inches off the stock, so they have a very short LOP, about like an AR carbine with the stock in the shortest position after fully collapsed.

I think barrel length plays a big part. My Buckmark pistol action gets a lot dirtier with the suppressor on, but the Buckmark rifle action stays about the same relative to non-suppressed shooting.
To be honest it doesn’t matter to me; it’s rare that they ever get shot unsuppressed.

Purchased a Ruger American 22 rifle with threaded barrel this afternoon. Already have a 4-12 x40 scope may need rings yet. Supressor should be a done deal any day now.
