The very cheapest .22s on the net are $0.35 a shot.

This is over TEN TIMES as costly as this time last year. I have enough .22s to last the rest of my days but I feel extremely sad the young men coming up will never be able to experience the joy of plinking away the afternoon for pocket change.

This is depressing me terribly and this price is even before the upcoming change in command which could bring even more demand. I am praying to God this will end and future generations can enjoy a .22 that is cheap to fire.

God bless all and stay safe during these awful times.

Eventually the demand will decrease as people refuse to pay those prices and the supply will increase and the price will drop. It's the law of supply and demand. I don't have a clue about the timeline for this to come about. I have lived long enough to find that a large percent of the population has chicken little syndrome and rational thought is completely beyond them.

In reality, one can find quality .22LR HV on auction sites yet for about 12 cents a round if you know where to look and are patient. I sold a 999 round lot of Winchester .22LR HV 36 gr. copper plated hollow point last week for about 18 cents per including shipping.

What can help is to frequently quickly switch to funny cat videos on Youtube, or listen to the weird howling of the RR engines on the old RAF Vulcan bombers (or the F-104 "Widowmaker" engines) at old airshows etc.

Not kidding, it helps to avoid too much of what we can't change. Right now my wife has the news running non -stop downstairs. I keep the doors to the den closed--------------
* Ammo prices and news are now avoided as much as possible (in case my method of 'escape' isn't clear).

That's a pretty penny for Wolf 22. lr. $525 for 1500 rounds.

Last week my local Bi-Mart and 800 round packs of Federal 22. lr for $25 a pack. Glad I bought mine when I did. Whew!!

.22 is still relatively cheap here in ND at about .10 a rnd. However, .22 mag has gone through the roof.

You are very right.

I enjoy the cat videos on the you tube as well and they can help calm anyone down. You’re right we cannot fix this by worrying.

This is a lesson we all should of learned from Berry's first year as President and the Sandy Hook panic that seemed to last from 2013 to 2016. Stock up while you can. I stocked up big on 22lr after the Obama got elected panic and easily road out the Sandy Hook panic. And hopefully still be able ride out this one

Buuuut. I really screwed up and am short of 9mm and rifle powder right now then I'm comfortable with.:cuss:

Plenty of pistol powder and primers. So it looks like my Win 94AE Trapper in 44 mag is fixing to get another torturous workout again.

I got a 500rd brick of thunderbolts (which function fine in my .22lr's except for the occasional dud). I think I paid $22. That's still totally acceptable in my book. That's an entire weekend of plinking for $22. I can live with that. If I can pick up a brick for that every week or even every other week I will never run out of plinking ammo. Rimfire isn't my preferred, but I can manage and shift my interest in it for the time being and I do have a G44 so my training, drawing from the holster, trigger control, etc will stay somewhat sharp.

(Eta): I actually just found my receipt, it was $24 per 500rd pack of .22lr. Still very doable)

I felt like a mark paying 8 cents a couple months ago.
35 cents? doubleyou tee eff!

My LGS just posted ZQI 9mm 50rd boxes for $12/box. That's promising. I knew since I had the day off I should have gone to get some .22lr like I had planned, I would have walked into that score. I will be popping in on my lunch break tomorrow around opening time and if by some miracle there is some left my shooting prospects will be much improved. I'm trying to figure out how much I can shoot monthly without dipping down into unacceptably low reserves

I'm finding it hard to predict how THIS shortage is going to go. I don't expect it to get back to normal for over a year, but hope I'm wrong.

The odd dynamic with this time around is that there are two significant causes: lots of new gun owners buying ammo AND "established" gun owners stocking up due to the political and social climate. The first of those really hasn't been a variable the last couple shortages so its hard to gauge how it'll affect it.

I'm nowhere near as stocked as I'd LIKE to be, but with how rarely I get out to the range what I have should last me awhile in my most used calibers. I'm woefully thin in 243, 308, and 38/357. I don't shoot those very often which is why I didn't have much but now I really CAN'T shoot them which is a bummer.

One big worry for me is the idea of banning online ammo sales that has been floated by some in the incoming Biden administration. I don't have great sources locally (Rural King is my best option) so I'd say 80% of my ammo purchases are done online.

What I don't understand is, how can they ban online ammo sales. I know they aren't shy about proposing outrageous and bold legislation but I would think it would be a glaring infringement on someone's individual right to self defense. I would think the only logical thing to do with that bill would be to ball it up and pitch it to the trash can.....

LGS has the old 525ct wally world federal bulk packs for the $79.95
back when it was $8-12/pack i bought two packs every time i went to walmart. sold most of my stash in the last panic, as i don't shoot 22lr much and actually only have a 22 levergun now. but i still have a few bricks

I have one .22 rifle - a Kimber 82 Custom Classic that is boringly accurate - it shoots regular and match brand ammo out to 50 yards equally well for it’s common use - squirrel hunting.
In a heavily used year, this rifle may get 50 rounds thru it. I have accumulated right at 7,000 rounds of various brand .22 inventory over the years - I am 66 years old - if one does the math, I will be about 200 years old when I exhaust this inventory.
Then why the inventory - I have not a clue other than peace of mind that I have it. If I do run across a worthy and needy shooter, a donation will be in order without a bit of remorse but, there is a reduced inventory number that will begin a worry - I do not yet know what that number may be.

I probably have north of 20 functioning .22 and rimfire rifles and handguns. I also have a significant supply of rimfire ammo to feed them. I have been buying it for decades. I am slowing down the ammo burn though significantly until I understand more fully what we face ahead. I have enough ammo for my centerfire rifles and handguns to last a while and I have stored away enough reloading supplies to keep .30-30, .45-70, .308 and .270 going in rifle and .45ACP and .45LC going in my pistols and revolvers. Now that the Remington ammunition factory under Vista Outdoors ownership is coming back on line that should put a dent in the dearth of ammunition one might think.

stop buying and the prices should come down.
the people that shoot 22s regularly i am sure have 5 to 10 k rounds from the last few yrs when they were reasonably priced. use your supply if you want to go shooting. you can slow down your rate of usage, of course. just dont buy more until prices become more reasonable.

I took my son and his two boys shooting last fall and went through most of a brick of Norma and a bunch of CCI. Prices started up after that so I have been waiting to go down. Looks like I screwed up. I will hang on to the little I have left.

Ain’t no way. That’s like paying $20/gallon for gas for your motorcycle just to go riding.
Not funny. If Slow Joe has his way, not only will he come and get the AR's, he will reinstate the regulations the Trump Administration rolled back that allowed America to be energy independent again. No telling what that will do to the price of fuels.
