Cabela’s Not Selling Primers/Powders Online?

Here at my house as well, sauces on the side. Patio size pit(s) for small gatherings like a houseful, then my trailer mounted rig for larger gatherings, charitable for my case I don't have any desire to operate a food business. Both have seen little use recently with the trailer rig zero in 2020.

^ I’d take the BBQ over clam chowder.

I remember driving from Bunker Hill to Niagara Falls (completely across NY and MA) taking about the same time as the drive from Lubbock to DFW.
Getting way off topic but your lack of experience with Texas BBQ is showing. There's 5 different styles, and cabrito is a South Texs specialty, as well as barbacoa de cabeza (and only one place still is allowed to use an earthen pit).

I didn't put anything in my posts about superiority or inferiority.

If you want to talk soups though chili is the official Texas dish if you look it up.
Actually I have too much experience with everything Texas. I mean no offense to you or other Texans, but the song title is accurate, All My Exes Live in Texas.

I love talking about food almost as much as I love eating it. Chili, now that’s a topic even more likely to start a war than bbq. Cincinnati is my fave by a wide margin. All the others are simply great, except vegetarian.

Actually

It has its advantages.
I’m a displaced ridge runner who just happened to be assigned a duty station in Newport in 1960. The rest is history.

Hope you mean the clear broth chowder. White or Red is somebody else, New England or Manhattan. For 25 years I made gallons of it for the gun clubs field day. Served with another Rhody exclusive, Clam Cakes.

I solve that issue by doing brisket and pork shoulder on the smoker and placing both sauce styles on the side. The majority of the folks here generally go with the sweet reddish brown stuff. I like both, some neither, preferring the smoky meat with its dry rub alone ( We can do that here, no traditions on BBQ.)
That’s what I’m talking about—clear broth. I do like em all though.

I spent a little time baby sitting Soviet trawlers off Narragansett Bay years ago and consumed mass quantities of chowder, long neck clams, oysters, lobster. Ate no meat for weeks at a time.

Well, you’re correct cause to many of us east of the Mississippi, Texas bbq isn’t bbq, it’s simply the way beef was cooked. You could be correct by replacing “like” with “in”

From about Fredericksburg, VA south (and I mean to Florida), bbq is pork and dependent on the geographic region, it can be cooked several different ways and with cayenne and vinegar but no tomato-based sauce at all or with primarily tomato-based, to a mustard-type sauce and so on. But it’s never beef.

It’s like saying which is the best powder.

"Bar-B-Q" is the transliteration of an Arawak-Caribbean word, "barbacoa." In Texas, they adapted the East-Mexican and Oaxacan methods of cooking: raw seasoned meats slow cooked on a spit or in a clay oven over an open pit with or without an open flame. Oaxacan/Texan barbacoa is more like roasting than brazing. In the East, we adopted the Arawak methods of cooking: buried in a pit or placed on a rack in a covered vessel of some sort - vegetation, typically - to slow-steam or braise the meat before charring over an open flame to caramelize the exterior and thicken the cooking liquid into a sauce. That's the big difference between the two: roast vs. braise. That and, as CQB points out, the Arawak didn't know what a "tomato" was until after the Spanish Conquest. They used what they had - citrus, fruits, natural alcohols and spoiled wines (vinegar) and salt - as a brine to tenderize and form a braising liquid for the meat and remove the natural "funk" of unrefrigerated meats. The Arawak also didn't know what a cow was until the Spaniards invaded, which is why Eastern barbacoa is almost always pork or goat.

Something interesting to note: While the Spaniards never enforced dietary restrictions on their conquests, they did impose heavy taxes and seized the best produce from their subjects. The French did the same. Which is one reason why shortly after the Spanish Conquest of the Caribbean, the Arawak diet became decidedly vegetarian. That's when most of the tomato and chili-based sauces for rice, beans, and fish came into being. Similarly after the French Conquest of Northern Mexico, the Mexican diet became more nearly vegetarian and many of the popular meatless "TexMex" cuisines we know today came into being.

Sorry. I read a lot of history and am something of a "foodie." :p

Actually We took up Florida residency in 2004. Tax breaks and all that. But family and home is here in the North East.
Thank you for your great state.
And with the eventual sale of that nice Florida style home a nice little profit to boot.

Where I live (Big Bend near the lower Suwannee) the nearest Bass Pro is an hour drive or more. We don't have a Cabella's within reasonable driving distance. However! there are no fewer than six mom-n-pop gun stores closer than the nearest supermarket, three within easy walking distance, two more just barely farther than I like to walk these days. Big box stores are not a big deal around here. Mail order is huge. The mom-n-pops can't afford to keep reloading supplies on-hand and most haven't for a few years - since the '04 hurricanes ripped up our supply chains. None of our locals are selling online anymore, either. The cost and complexity is too much for their family-based staffs to handle. There are now so many laws regulating firearms transfers to and from online sources it is not possible for a small business to keep up. That's what my friends in the business tell me and I have no reason not to believe them. IF UPS, FedEx, USPS and DHL refuse to carry ORM-D packages, rural areas like mine will not be able to get ammo or reloading supplies. Period. That's the real issue, not if big box A or big box B stop carrying a certain item.

I don't (can't) drink alcohol but don't mind anyone else indulging within their limits, or not.
---
Me either. I quit alcohol 30+ years ago. Had my fill. I quit smoking almost two years ago after a series of heart attacks and cardiac surgeries. Smoking killed me, literally, but God has plans for me so it didn't "stick." :)

I don't mind other people drinking, smoking, eating bad food or dressing funny. I just won't. Freedom is about not bothering to approve or disapprove of what other people do to themselves.

Good people are always welcome. We are one nation of laws made up of many states, all with a guaranteed Republican form of government. (Article 4, US Constitution). Bad people aren't welcome but we can't stop them from coming down here, any more than the other states can stop our bad people from migrating to them. We take the good with the bad and do our best to live together in freedom.

Maybe they got tired of all the complaints about online inventory/shipping
Cabelas had a black friday sale, Sig Romeo 5 for $99. I knew it would sell out fast. I was online at 12:30am hitting the refresh button until I got my order through. Well, the negative reviews were from people who waited too long.

I’m from North Carolina and I agree. BbQ is pit smoked whole pork with hickory. Served with Wonder bread to soak up the sauce. Hushpuppies! white creamy tart cole slaw, collard greens, and the sauce! Vinager with some seasoning!

I’m HUNGRY!

I can respect Texas BBQ! it just different but good. They do Beef

Agree! Freedom is, you do what you want, just don’t bother me with it.

That latter point is really a big one and growing larger in our cancel culture. There are many many things that can (and I predict will) be done by companies that there’ll be little remaining for bad government actors to ruin.

My mom was from Roanoke Rapids/Weldon—I grew up on Ralph’s bbq and like their Brunswick stew, fried chicken, and sweet tea nearly as much.

you meant “slaw” right? Not cole slaw.

And... Collards are just collards. Greens are those big, ugly stalks of tough, bitter "mustard" things that grow up out of cow patties. Some folks love collards and other folks eat greens. I do both. :) With copious amounts of vinegar and Tabasco. Loseanna hot sauce does fine in a pinch.

On topic, these regional differences are WHY we are seeing differences in shipping and stocking of certain items. Cabellas/Bass Pro etc. stocks from central stores where national buyers setup regional distribution pools. Warehouse personnel and truckers were hit hard by COVID restrictions. Some states locked down so tight shipping was brought to a standstill and that has cascaded across the landscape. Little rural, low population areas like North Florida are LAST on the list to get restocked. I can't say I'm surprised the online ordering is taking a back seat to restocking large, urban, high-volume stores. Trucks aren't rolling in some states. The people who need supplies are between he manufacturers, distributors, and retailers. When the trucks start rolling again, supplies will start moving again and manufacturing will go back to work. Until the trucks roll across the country, without lockdowns or delays, none of that happens. Can 't sell product off the manufacturer's loading dock when the reason it's sitting there is there's nobody to pick it up and move it.

Are you forgetting what in all probability will happen shortly after January 20th.? Eliminating online ammo/components sales by the new administration.
Then we do the old fashioned way. Heat up a nice hot cup of black coffee, warm up the car, pop on some Guntalks, and head out to the local gun shop. and don’t forget CASH only people

Enough of all this gun talk!

Where can I sign up for the BBQ tasting? Are we going to settle this discussion about who makes REAL BBQ? I'm in!

Guns? The topic is, "Cabela’s Not Selling Primers/Powders Online?" I thought we were talking about macro-scale retail sales and distribution, economic theory and transportation logistics?

If you want to go WAY WAY back, I grow up in the deep deep south, and the black folk (because of traditions) would make Poke Weed salad. It was delicious!!! look up Poke Weed
