Anyone Having a hard time finding caps?

I’m able to find CCI 11 caps, but no Remingtons, which is what my Old Army prefers. As for small pistol primers, good luck. I finally found some large pistol magnums the other day, but was limited to two boxes. Too bad I didn’t have more people in the car that I could send in.

I too was having a heck of a time finding both #10's and #11's, recently I just happened to find both, in each case from friends. I hope the drought dosen't last, unfortunately I suspect it will. Dave951 I'm going to take your advice and try blackpowderva.com

Ill send you a couple tins of remington 11s when i send you back your gun sir. I get them locally for a out $3.45 with tax

As a last resort, these will work.
Found them cheap on amazon. Use care!
Since they are plastic and kinda stretchy, they fit #10 and #11 nipples and they stay on even better than pinched #11s on my Pietta revolvers. Haven't really HAD to use them yet as I found a few tin's of VERY vintage #10 caps on ebay. But I gotem if I need em, and they DO work.

Really? Dang, I’m glad I don’t shop there... we have really very few sporting goods stores around here. Too rural. I’m ok with that.

Mr.woodnbow...about how many tins out of 10 sent do yoy have left? Not sure how much or how often you shoot. Also the remington 11s should fit any aftermarket performance nipple like tresos, slix, uncle mikes etc..not sure if you use any of them brands of nipples

Hey Kid... I shoot most days even if it’s only a round or two and a cylinder full on the pistols. I still have four tins of the 11’s. I’ve been using them for about half the time on pistols and saving the 10’s for serious work... thanks for checking in!

No problem my friend...anytime you need a refill lemme know and ill set it up for you asap.

Remember when Arnold Schwarzenegger was looking at all the guns at the gun shop in the movie Terminator? I just happened to recently walk through the sporting goods section of my local Walmart and noticed a small selection of black powder stuff was just put on the shelf for the upcoming hunting season. An entire box of CCI #11 caps was sitting there. I took the whole box to the counter and the cashier asked how many I wanted and I blandly said “All.” It was awesome!

I pick up a tin every time I go into Wally World. Had to really look for them this last time as some jackass manager keeps having the store rearranged.

The local gun store clerk already knows what do to when he sees me...he immediately sees me and gets all the remington percussion caps, knows im not there for anything else. So as soon as its my turn to get served he already has them at the register for me.

Anyone have an update about what’s going on with the Remington Caps? Still can’t find them anywhere.

What do you guys find to be the second best caps after the Remington #10s?

Lemat, Walker, twin Uberti SS 1858s, 1858 Carbine, Pedersoli Howdah, and (soon to be) Pedersoli 1858 Target owner here. I’ve never used anything but Remington #10s...

CCI caps from local Wally World when the idjits have them out, seems like some conehead manager feels that percussion caps are a seasonal item, like those of us who use them only shoot at a certain time of year only! Jeez, don't get me started.

Where do you live, are there any Cabela's, Bass Pro or other shooting sports chain stores in your area?
Have you tried to order caps through a local gun shop?
Where did you buy caps in the past?
CCI #11's need to be squeezed to stay on revolver nipples but fit virtually everything.
RWS 1075 Plus are magnum caps that fit on many guns but may be tight on some.
Remington #11 are similar to Remington #10 but may fit slightly looser because they're slightly shorter.
Stay away from CCI #10's because they're too tight on nearly everything.
Magnum caps may fragment more on revolvers.

If a cap is larger it can be squeezed a little bit and it will usually always stay on the nipple.
There are also ways to resize an #11 cap to make it fit like a #10, which may work better with CCI's.

I thought I got the last RWS at MidwayUSA. They went stock out right after I got mine.

They work on my stock Pietta nipples but do seem powerful and fragile. I always use a Ted Cash capper and push seat with a deer antler point.

My local Walmart here in NH got rid of everything firearms related bar BB guns and cleaning kits unfortunately.

Thank you for that info. I’ve bought online from whoever was cheapest in the past. I plan to check Cabellas this weekend however. I may start calling all local gun stores to see if any have them in stock.

Out of all the options you posted which caps would you recommend personally that need the least tinkering to function on the guns right out of the box?

thanks again

Jack, There's so many gun shops in NH you're bound to find some.
Cabela's was shipping them until recently.
The #11's work but they may be a little loose on some revolver nipples.
Both brands work, and so do RWS but they're more like a size #10.5, and more powerful because they're hotter magnum caps.

I didn't see any listed at the Cabela's in your area.
Kittery Trading Post says that they are out of stock.
But you can't always believe the website.
So maybe call to double check.

There's a whole bunch of gun shops in NH.
You should be able to find what your looking for depending on which part of the state.
Even some Walmarts have them.
Look at all of the gun shops near Plaistow. --->>> https://www.yelp.com/search?cflt=guns_and_ammo&find_near=vizards-guns-and-ammo-plaistow&start=0
Keep calling around until you find what you're looking for.
I checked a big distributor in NH named Vizards for you, but they can't arrange pickup or shipping at this time.
Don't give up.

I have lots of caps on hand, CCI and Remington #11s but they fall off the nipples of my new 1858. So I ordered new nipples from TOW in stainless steel that are sized for #11 caps. I talked to TOW on friday and they said my nipples will ship on monday the 22nd. I had another Pietta 1858 back in the late 1990s and used CCI #11 caps on it. I had to slightly pinch them to make them fit but as far as I can remember I never ever had a mis-fire with that gun.

I am wondering since Remington has closed its doors how much longer will Remington caps be available or will someone else continue to make them? I have shot them along side of my CCI caps on my rifles and never noticed any real difference in how they worked.

No. https://www.startribune.com/federal...-4m-for-unit-of-bankrupt-remington/572563502/

R
emington Ammunition and muzzleloading components appear to be in good hands...

The fit of cap to cone is the deciding difference for me. Well, two other thoughts. I’ve not had misfires from pistols and in both rifles and pistols I get good consistent velocity with low SD. CCI caps may be as good now but years ago I didn’t see it over the chronograph.

Remington didn't close its doors, but it has a new owner.
They've been trying to ramp up production after falling behind schedule with their orders. --->>> https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/remington-caps.881936/#post-11790755

Thanks Arcticap. Thats good info. I for one have always liked Remington ammunition especially their rimfire ammo and in particular the Yellow Jacket 22 rounds. I thought it was a much better hyper velocity round that the Stinger. It it will expand even when shot from something like a Jennings J-22 auto.

I haven't used enought of their caps to form an opinion. But I hope to when my new nipples get here. I have been watching videos on making paper cartridges for my revolver also. Looks like it will be easy to do.

I’ve found that with standard CCI caps I have a bit of an ignition delay when using Pyrodex. I try not to use that stuff, but sometimes it’s my only option. With the Remingtons and CCI Magnums I haven’t noticed a delay.

And bass pro is now out. I have a local source. I’ve been overpaying but I don’t care right now. I don’t shoot that much. 1000 caps will last me a year if I go heavy on BP shooting. I’m working on a 2 year supply right now. I’m adding as I can, because I’m afraid it could be years before primers come available again for shooting pistol.
