Handgun/ Knife picture thread 2021 edition

I seldom have cause to take a pic of one of my handguns and knives together, but I took this one a while back.

I seldom "matched" my off-duty or retirement weapons and whatever knives I might be carrying at any particular time. (I usually carry 2-3 folding knives at any one time, for various anticipated tasks and needs.)
I dig the headgear inclusion.

Fair warning.... I am SO going to crib that idea!

Todd.

Well, as you can tell by my present avatar, I was doing some "pairing" of hats and guns (for another couple of private forums). ;)

I've got scads of knife pics. I just haven't had reason to put them with any of my western hats or fedoras.

I've started fleshing out my Trappers, since they were a neglected part of my collecting in younger years.

Sometimes I've done pocket dumps or EDC snapshots for fellow enthusiasts on private forums:

That Redhawk appears to have a number of interesting mods to it. Mind telling us about it?

The modifications are mostly cosmetic. ;)

It was an early 5 1/2" .44MAG model that was a gift from family. It came with a slight parts tolerance problem (hammer/trigger) that required it to be returned for repair. The company replaced the cylinder/yoke assemblies, trigger guard frame/assembly and the hammer. Guess they found and addressed the problem. :)

I decided to have the grip frame rounded off to an approx Round Butt or Bird's Head profile to better fit my hand, and then let someone bead blast it (the family member who originally helped decide upon the gift). He wanted to leave the rear of the cylinder smooth, and then because he had a thing against seeing a "stop track" prominently left by the ball of the cylinder stop, he wanted to polish that ring at the rear of the cylinder. I didn't mind, so I let him. (It didn't affect the gun's functioning, anyway.) I had some synthetic "ivory" stocks rounded down to conform to the new grip frame. I stopped short of having it MagNaPorted, because it was heavy enough to not really need porting, even with the heavy handloads I used to use at the range, or the factory loads I used for off-duty.

Love it, but I cannot afford the Hats too!

Yep, the hats can become a bit pricey.

My Stetson Chatham Fur Felt hat (in avatar at the moment) can cost up to $195. I bought it to celebrate the final month of my chemo 10 years ago, so I was glad just to be around to spend the money.

My 3 Broner Fedoras are from their American-made Above the Rest line of LiteFelt waterproof, crushable hats. My shop told me I could get more colors in their Chinese made line of Broner hats, but 3 of the traditional 4 colors was enough for me (and the Chinese made hats didn't feel quite the same to me). Like other general sized hats (not using numbered sizes) it pays to try one a few of them in the same size to find the one that actually fits just right. ;)

I have some of the less expensive crushable fedoras, but they didn't keep their waterproofing very long and they're more "generic" in style.

Once your hair decides to "turn loose" before turning grey, hats become a handy part of your wardrobe. Ball caps can only take a grown man so far. ;) I'm not spending much time in the country much anymore, so my Western hats don't see as much wear.

I like that spyderco wharnie. I have seen it before but it never really caught my attention til now. How do you like it? I actually never really cared for wharncliffes because I thought they had limited versatility,, kind of a one trick pony, no belly. Then I got one and I really took a shine to them. I would like to get a nice Case or kissing crane wharncliffe folder.

Now I have to check out that spyderco, lol.

Its been my EDC for 6 years now. Got it for myself as a wedding present. I like it because, for me it has good utility value. Real easy to get very sharp with just one straight edge. The clip can be moved to 4 different positions. The mid lock takes some getting used to but is very secure. It is designed to hold with your thumb along the back of the blade so using it that way for extra leverage is secure and encouraged. I would rather it was a wedge grind but I put it on my Tormek to grind it down a bit to get to thicker metal and that worked out good.

Spyderco did a sprint run of Delica's with a wharncliffe blade. It was really cool. It looked a lik funny compared to a regular delica but still awesome.

I think the one thing that sets spydercos apart from other knives aside from their trademark spyder hole and some of their more "eccentric" designs, is their use of FFG (full flat ground) blades and the wide array of FFG offerings. FFG is far and away my favorite type of blade. Best for EDC. They aren't meant to be torqued or prying elevator doors open or anything, but they are still plenty rugged. Their Saber grind is excellent too. Also they listen very carefully to customer feedback and requests and put out great performance steel. I love spydercos, not all of em, some are a lil wacky looking but in general, they are the best imo.

99% of the time you don't need a "rambo" knife to pry doors open with anyway, I've got knives for that too, lol. The Delica and then later the Endura are my all time favorite. Give em a look some time. Great sub $100 blades...

To me Sal Glesser is the Gaston Glock of the Knife world. He reshaped and set out on a course of designs, ingenuity and use of materials that nobody was really using at the time. His might have been the first really practical EDC tactical knife.

Bless the man. Real nice guy too. Pretty responsive to questions and participates on the forums...

A picture of memories.

The picture holds many memories of people that are important to me!
- 3 blade pocket knife Ranger brand was my Grandfather's (Mom's dad) he carried daily.
- the locking blade my Grandfather's (Dad's dad) he gave me the last time I saw him.
- the pipe was my great great grandfather's (mom's side)
- the deer antlers from a 4×4 I shot in SD hunting with my Cousin. He past before we could hunt together again.
- the silver dollar from a friend I haven't seen in years. 1971 the year a dollar stopped being a dollar he would say.

The 45/410 - Dad would call it a belly gun. Stick in his belly the only way you'll hit him:D
