Colt bought by CZ

Would have preferred to see an American company like Ruger buy them but CZ makes great stuff and I look forward to seeing how it pans out.
Wouldn't that have been an interesting coup?

I tend to believe though that a weakened, available, Colt's offers more ups with less downs to a foreign player than a domestic one.

Todd.

Do you think that Colt will become a "cheaper" line of 1911s or will CZ build them to compete with their Dan Wesson line ?
I doubt that CZ would ever cheapen them to, let alone beyond, Colt's years of penny-pinching and things like plastic mainspring housings and triggers. Damn, but that should have been humiliating for them!

Colt 1911's are already less expensive than Dan Wesson 1911s.

What CZ gets from Colt, that they don't have, are Colt's military contracts and connections.

Any chance we see a Colt AR 15 out of this deal? For years the Colt was lusted after by many, but their marketing and production for the civilian market were horrible. While CZ is in the revolver and 1911 game with Dan Wesson, they are are not a player in the Black Rifle market. Just thinking out loud.

Colt AR15's have been able to be had (by those that wanted them) forever. Not sure I'm understanding your statement. Are you asking if CZ will continue making Colt AR15's?

Id say their decision to abandon the AR market was less favors to antis but far more Colt getting their arse eating out by the competition because Colt pretty much refused to build anything but the 6920. The market had moved past 16in carbine gassed rifles.
Dan Wesson just discounted the revolver line and the CZ bren and scorpion are highly popular guns.

Colt was left behind in the AR market about 10 years ago. It wouldn't bother me to not have them as an offering, I wouldn't wish it.

There is NO reason to worry. CZ is a great company that will revive some of the discontinued production line for the civilian market. Current production is now in safer hands as over the years Colt has been less interested in the civilian market.

IDK, I suppose I feel like it is more of the traditional America being sold away. Just like Chrysler was sold to the Germans then given to the Italians or the collapse of Remington. :(

On the other hand, if the CZ merger brings Colt back to its glory days then its a good thing.

Dont worry man. It will always be an American company just different owner whose CEO may happen to be an American as well at times.

Produced in the US and revival of slow production is good thing. Colt has been dragging its feet when compared to other manufacturers. To say the least Colt got a new life line.

My first thought is "EEK"! But then, CZ turns out some nice rifles. Nothing says "Colt" like having "Česká zbrojovka" stamped on the receiver. EEK!

They should bring out a true Series 70 M1911A1 clone with proper wooden handles and parkerized finish.

That's almost funny. Go back through the catalog of various 1911s Colt came out with over the past ten or fifteen years marketed to civilians, particularly concealed carriers and competition shooters. Let's see, got our Combat Elites, XSE models, LW and Combat Commanders, Defenders. Gold Cups, Combat Unit series, Competition series, Delta Elite Series, Traditional series, Wiley Clapp series, and then a number of really cool special runs. And what about revolvers? New Cobra series ring a bell? New Python?

You waiting for CZ to help Colt revive some of the "discontinued production line for the civilian market?" All-righty, then...

You already have SIG. Remember Colt was SUPPOSED to move some operations to Florida and then backed out at the last minute after tax breaks, utility subsidies etc. were all lined up. They were going to be hiring highly qualified displaced Space Coast workers. They walked away.

Oh, I guess I stuck my foot in it
Is ok, the biz is a complicated spaghetti pile at the best of times.

Also, Colt Canada (Dimarco) was dealing with some eastern European countries to provide them with military arms, which is part of the package CZ was picking up. So, they would/will be in the military black rifle biz as a result.

I want to remember that the average Czech can be licensed to own former military rifles, just just need the fun switch deactivated.
