Hi All
With the break up of Remington and the various product lines being sold off and separated. Will there still be a 870 shot gun made by someone? Or are they done?

WB

The 870 is the most successful shotgun (likely single model firearm too) in history. It's unclear who now owns the Reminton long gun IP but IMO only a foolish company would discontinue the 870.

I still see a lot of new Remington firearms for sale. Is this just stock which I doubt or are they still producing them.

A consortium, including the last Remington CEO, bought the Remington firearms brand and the Ilion and Alabama real estate, along with some sort of limited job guaranty. They paid around $13 million. I don't know what amount, if any, of debt they may have assumed. Since the 870 actually delivered revenue, and the cost of disposing of the Ilion factory is astronomical, there is no business model short of onward sale to Bloomberg for closure that would see the 870 cease production.

Ruger bought them. Ruger doesn't offer a pump gun I know about. Sounds like maybe a Ruger 870? Wonder if they will keep the Remington name? Maybe the guns will be even be better quality! I am interested to find out in time :)
Ruger did NOT buy them; they bought the Marlin line. Roundhill bought the main Remington firearm line; the City of Huntsville took over the Alabama property. Roundhill bought the Ilion properties

A side note... I grew up in Huntsville (closest thing I ever had to a hometown for this Army brat)... Can't think of a better place to raise a family and that area certainly has a great pool of very skilled engineers and technicians for any weapons manufacturer to draw from should another outfit be looking for a venue. Sorry that Remington's troubles extended to all of the company's parts and facilities...

The Remington brand firearms were purchased by Roundhill Group. It's basically a shell company created to buy Remington so it doesn't look promising that they will be able to raise the money needed to get Remington back into full scale production. The new owner has said they fill focus just on hunting firearms.

870s are going for ridiculous amounts of money on Gunbroker.. I managed to grab an 870 Express used but not abused for just under $500, but I am kinda concerned about the availability & price of replacement parts & certain accessories down the road.

Remington hasn’t made a quality shotgun in over 20 years.

I own several 870 and 110s bought in the 1970s. Ever since then quality has gone downhill. I will be keeping my vintage Wingmastera and do not care what becomes of the joke Remington evolved into.

I especially stopped paying attention to their little exploits after they betrayed the sportsman and discontinued one of the finest rimfires yet, the Nylon 66, in the late 1980s.

I would've loved for Remington to bring back some of their old revolvers and derringers under a "Classic" lineup. I'd love a quality new production 1875 or 1890.

There is a Federal Trademark Registration for the name "870" and it likely has substantial value. Someone will pay serious money for the right to use "870" associated with firearms. The trademark was owned by:

RA Brands, L.L.C. LIMITED LIABILITY COMPANY DELAWARE 870 Remington Drive Madison NORTH CAROLINA 27025

But the trademark was assigned to a company that apparently holds assets of distressed / bankrupt companies and then presumably resells those assets to the highest bidder. The company is called Ankura Trust and here's a link to their webpage: https://ankuratrust.com/

And here's a link to the trademark registration itself: http://tmsearch.uspto.gov/bin/showfield?f=doc&state=4802:5ht36l.2.7

Painting with a pretty broad brush, there. I'm not enamored with expresses but 1100s, 11-87s, and 870 Wing masters have held their own. My personal 870s are from 1975 and thereabouts but we've sold piles of new 870s and I'll admit wood quality may not be as nice as some older ones, the mechanics are fine. Are you throwing the 700s in your blanket condemnation?

Lucky to have got a RM380 for peanuts and now they have gone way up - if you can find one. Should bought 10!! I fear this will be same for all Remington products even the R51. Probably will move off shore like all the others.

Who knows, the 870 may become the pythons of shotguns. Would be a shame if it goes by the wayside such a great piece of work and cheap to boot.
