That was a gamble. But, if it's excess why not. I actually considered the same thing then I decided none of it was excess, but I was able to negotiate with myself that I might trade some of what I have alot of for what I dont.

I've thought hard about it, but not knowing how long this will last I can't talk myself into it. I've sold ammo to family and friends at the price I paid for it to help them out, but only a little bit. The only thing I really have ALOT of is 22lr, so I'll be shooting that alot probably.

I was glad I was able to get through to some. Others not so much. A few months back my friend who had bought a 9mm and couldn't find ammo for missed a good opportunity I tried to lead him to. I sniffed out some Aquila 9mm 300rd bulk packs for $110 but I told him we had to get to the shop before they opened, he pushed the time back a bit and we got there just in time to see the last of it get checked out.

Same here, .22lr is what on the menu until I see some $250 1K rd cases back in stock. That is the ceiling for me. I just can't afford to shoot $1rd magazines. When a bullet cost more than a beer, that's when you know there is a problem.
Just a guess, but I think it will come down to $350 per case of 9mm and $450 per case of .223. That will be our new normal, for a while at least. Just my prediction.

I think I will be doing a lot of black powder again this summer. it is easy to stretch out your shots to make 40 shots take a whole afternoon. The trigger time translates very, very well to centerfire rifle. Of course I will fool around with various reloads and 22, but black powder is fun and it doesn't take a whole lot to do a lot of shooting.

Ya, its just kind of hard to predict with the current political climate. The thing is, if nothing else changes the actual cost to make the ammo should come back down to close to what it was. Maybe not all the way, but close. With ramped up production there will come a point where there is a surplus, and that is when we'll start to see the prices getting back into realistic territory.
That may come sooner than we think, as a big part of this spike was new gun owners. By the by, most of them won't be stacking it deep like us hobbyists and as such it should be a short lived spike. The longer term spike will be those more involved 2A community continuing to panic buy and/or buy to flip it for high prices. That part is harder to predict when it dies down. IMO, that caused the last big 22lr shortage to go on months longer than it would have otherwise.
The wild card to me is what the new administration can/will do that may create unforseen ripples. Trade policy affecting availability of components, environmental policies involving lead, etc. all could affect ammo prices in the longer term.

An executive order banning imports of russian ammo would be a huge blow. Aside from the knock on effects of this, it would bar a huge source of ammo. Market would tighten even worse.

And some ammo?Went to the local shop yesterday, first time since well before Christmas. Very, very few guns and almost no ammo. Still walked out with a Ruger Go-Wild American 6.5CM.

Me quoque and am now thinking I may have been premature due to misjudging the amount of disposable income there actually is in this Country.
You know for a populace suffering economic downturn due to kung flu, they sure don't seem to be lacking $ for boolits.

This. My flintlocks are cheap to shoot and no shortage on anything needed to fire them.
The modern guns are too expensive to feed right now.

Gonna get in trouble for this BUT...'many' seem to want to boycott places that, in their view', have unfavorable 'politics' or policies..like Walmart and NRA and others. BUT, some of these same people will buy Russian ammo in spite of the HUGE cyberattack just launched against the US and the 'alleged' putin bounty on US and allied forces...just seems like kinda a double standard to me. I don't buy Rissian ammo for those reasons and I didn't mention 'executive orders'....first.

I stopped by the lgs today and bought 4-50 rd boxes of Aguila Super Extra .22lr for $11.00. 4 boxes was the store limit, so then I drove over to Walmart and bought 2-100 rd boxes each of CCI and Winchester .22lr for $32.00 total. Almost felt like I'd hit the lottery.....

Lucky you! I haven't seen an 22 in stores in months. Except for 5 boxes of aguila shorts at the lgs a couple weeks ago. $5/box, and I bought 'em all. I have 9 50rd boxes of 17hmr that I'm satisfied were the last in this county for sale. They were $15/ea, so not too inflated. I suppose I picked the wrong year to get into 17hmr, but here we are.
As far as being scared, I'm not. I've got plenty of 22 ammo stored back from long ago. I've also got pellet guns and black powder guns. So I can shoot all I want should I choose to. Late last year I started reloading. I've had a bit of trouble finding primers, but most everything I've needed I got locally or from this site (THANKS). It just took a little patients and a little searching. Still, I'm satisfied things will get better, and in the words of Merle: "the good times ain't over for good".

$7 for 50 round boxes of CCI Velocitor, hurt a little but bought the max at 4 boxes, this was Thursday. The week before they were out of LR so I asked and they had shorts. $5 a box of 50 rounds Remington .22 Short HP, they were dusty, but had a bunch, bought the max. Maybe an angle is to look for .22 Short, long or whatever other than LR. My revolver don't care, nor does my bolt gun. Next time I go I am gonna ask about the shorts again.

I think having a few guns that will chamber any .22 is a good idea for times like these. Shorts are fun To shoot and useable for small game. My Remington model 34 holds 22 shorts in the tube mag don’t even need to carry spare ammo when out hunting.
No such thing as excess ammo in this house.
