In Crawforsville the little seperate "study" building where Wallace wrote Ben Hur and other things is now a Museum.
Interesting to me is that Jeff Davis also wrote his after The War papers in such a seperate from the main house building.
I note a couple of THR members have detached Man Caves as well.
Mean while, I have shown my first knife before but here it is for this thread. The knife with the broken blade is my first knife. The other I bought to have one like it was when it was given to me.
Dad gave me the knife at six and told me to NEVER throw it. It is pretty obvious that I did not listen isn't it. Dad made me carry the thing most of a year with the broken blade. Of course back then the can openner was still useful and the claw on the scaler blade worked on soda bottle capsul and the scaler brade and hook removal knotch worked as well. Awfully embarssing around the other boys though to not have a cutting blade.
Never thrown a folder at anything other than the dirt playing splits or Mumbly Pegs since.
I am considering posting my first sheath knife that I bought with my own money from hard work but fear the laughter...
...as if this wasn't bad enough.

My first was probably a Cub Scout knife in the early 60's, but the latest (today) is a D2 Boker Strike Auto.

I was 8 when I got my first knife, it was one of those tiny Swiss Army Knives with just a blade, file, and scissors that dad got for free at a trade show and he gave it to me when he got home from his business trip. It was a real SAK, but it disappeared within a couple days. I'm almost certain my mom confiscated it from my room when I was sleeping; she was always terrified I'd cut (or hit, or shoot) my little sister and I remember her saying as much when Dad gave it to me. I never did prove her right, but to this day as adults both my parents get angry if I so much as say anything critical about her, but my other 3 younger siblings are fair game. Anyway....
My next knife was this Old Timer I bought at Walmart when I turned 12 with allowance money. I still remember picking it out and it was the only thing I carried until I was in my early 20's; I've had to squeeze the pivot pins back together a couple times when I abused it working around the farm I grew up on. After that I switched to locking blades for EDC. Next to it is an Esse 3 I picked up last fall, hasn't even been used yet. My plan is to keep it on my belt when I wade fish.

My neighbor, Push-Me-Ta-Ha, made it for me.
I got to bead the sheath to make the blade truly mine.
Ceremonial knives are that way, I guess.

One of my most recent daily carry knives is a Bear and Sons Executive, the other is a Kershaw Zing.

I was salty about losing my pocketknife of 15 years. It was a CRKT that I loved. So to punish myself I decided to get an el cheapo. Not that the CRKT was super expensive but it was $75 new. So I got this Smith and Wesson knife from Academy for $20 and it seems sharp and sturdy enough. I didn’t even know S&W made knives.

I suspect that the S&W brand is licensed to a third party for use with knives. Remington has done this for many years, as did Winchester. Taylor cutlery rents the brand, and I don't know what factories produce them. China would be my guess.

Used it a lot too! That's back when Gerber made good knives.
Welll, they were made for S&W by Blackie and Michael Collins' company, and then the brand was sold to Taylor Cutlery who made it famous enough that S&W's parent company bought Taylor to get it back. Interesting history. Thanks for the link, Mike. Never knew Taylor to be highly regarded, but they certainly knew how to sell knives and knife companies. It is interesting that S&W diversified to protect it from wild swings in the gun industry, and then last year spun off the holding company's 17 other brands to protect the diversified companies from the PR challenges of the firearms business in today's climate. S&W knives brand is now a holding of American Outdoor Brands, Inc which formerly held S&W firearms, but is since August of 2020 independent.

The first knife that anyone actually bought for me was a cheap Japanese bowie that had 'Souvenir of The Oregon Caves' stenciled on the sheath.

My first real knife was a bone handled bowie that I lost in a field of armpit (to an eight year old) deep wheat.
My latest knife was given tome on my birthday (yesterday) by my buddy, who happens to also be my #1 son's father in law.

It is a tiny S&W linerlock with a caplifter and a broad moneyclip/pocket clip. This little unusual knife is typically not my cup of tea.....but I rather like it!
I have carried it everywhere since I got it.

This first one is a no name butterfly knife. My uncle Oscar gave it to me when I was 7, roughly 14 years ago. It's used and abused to an insane degree. It still cuts,still flips, and still goes with me wherever i tread.
This second one, i picked up from the state of Durango, Mexico while on vacation there, before covid. The only real reason I bought it was because of the inscription. "No me dominan Valientes, Ni con Cobardes peleó".
"The brave won't dominate me,nor do I fight with cowards. "
A bit different than what most of y'all posted, but meh. Happy to participate.
