I see peterson makes 28nosler brass, it's supposed to be close to lapua quality and cheaper plus you get a free ammo box.

I can tell when I've had too much caffeine, while on the gun I bounce real hard on the target lol, but I cant function without it otherwise.
also seems to make me flinchier

There are such things as Magic beans, and they are Coffee
they get me up in the morning and help me make it through the day.
Just maybe not the best thing before testing ammo for accuracy.

So Did some work on the X-bolt. I pillared and epoxy bedded the action...then i realized why pillar bedding is a waste of time on the Xbolt. The whole bottom metal acts as a big washer but doesn't contact the stock directly below the action holes, so my pillars arnt doing anything....not gonna pull them and change that, but they arnt hurting anything either.
Had the gun out last weekend, and it shot pretty well with very little difference visible between the charges from 86-86.6, all of which could probably be accounted for due to poor shooting.
Nearly all the groups I shot would have 4 shots in a tight cluster, then one a few inches out, the one group my buddy Del shot did the same thing.
Im seriously considering switching to a slightly larger heavier stock, the X-bolts factory stock is very narrow, and just dosnt FEEL all that stable when shooting prone or off the bench.....perhaps I've just gotten used to having more mass upfront. Either way I got frustrated at putting 3 or 4 shots into a solid group then having one go wide, every bloody time.
Anyway, Im going to have to redo the ladder test, or just go with one of the middling charges and adjust from there.
This is one I shot, lower left diamond, that's 5 shots, with two in basically the same hole.
The group Del shot is lower right. I don't know for sure if he fired 4 or 5 shots. I was frustrated at this point, and wasn't paying much attention to what he did with the gun.
Today one of the Meopta HTRs came in and I got it installed in a set of DNZ medium mounts. I also had a set of Talley lows on hand, but it was JUST barely too short.
I also found that the windage cap is wide enough that the brass still gets stuck or bounces back into the gun.....rather dis-heartened I started to go order set of high rings to help deal with the issue.
Then I realized that while I was playing with the scope, its windage turret is exactly the same as the one on my Zeiss Conquest HD5. I pulled out my Christensen and stole the windage cap off to see if it would fit....what do you know screwed right on, and is small enough that the brass now ejects perfectly.
And the meopta cap on the Zeiss.....
Hopefully Ill have a chance to go shoot longer distances next weekend, still gotta load ammo tho.....yay....

Weather is too wet and crappy to spray duracoat so it's just going to stay blasted stainless till it gets a little nicer
Also got the Meopta Branded HTR in, and found that I really lucked out on ordering the Cabela's version off eBay. The Meopta version uses target turrets on the windage as well as elevation So this wouldn't have worked on the X-bolt.
I also got a few more rounds loaded. I have these loaded right at 87 which was dead center in the middle of my first load testing. I decided to just shoot the gun a bit before I start really working with loads since I did so poorly last time we were out.
If it continues to bother me I may go ahead and order a boyds at one thumb hole.

Should be a great set up. That break looks like a bigger version of the vg6 break I got.
I'm interested in the at-one thumb hole, the grip looks a bit boxy but it's wood so fixed easily.

the brakes real close in design, but I like the aesthetics better on this one, at least for this gun.
Im not sold on the @1 thumbhole yet, but it seems like the best compromise between a Ross style thumbhole, and the regular @1. Im less than thrilled with both style of stocks grip portions. At least the @1 Thumbhole seems more adaptable.

The only boxy part is the back of the grip where your palm sits, so far, everyone here has loved my boy's, personally I like the fatter grip of the @1 better but could just be my hands lol

. Wish you could order it long so you can shape it. Wish I had the spare cash I'd like to try one for my m18 mauser, I like the Orange and smoke color. The m18 would make a nice fast gun for some of the shooting sports out there, when the barrel burns up.It's definitely more utilitarian than classy lol!!That forend tho
Yeah I can live with utilitarian for the most part lol.
The only other stocks ive been able to find are the McMillan Game Scout, and GSR Hunter and Sporter.....all of which are nice stock, but start at 550 bucks....

Is Richards doing any xbolt stocks yet.
I didn't see it listed on their action inlet list but from what I understand they'll do a duplicate of almost anything if you give them the template.
I just really don't want to finish out another stock right now, woodworking is not my favorite thing to do.
I just got an email back from customer service at Meopta USA, and after having figgured out that the Cabelas HTR has different turrets than the Meopro HTR, they are sending me a set of normal Meopro caps for free.
Small thing, but not something they had to do. Very much appreciated as Its kinda a key, tho not functionally critical, piece of this gun puzzle. While the Zeiss cap works, now, the Cabelas htr cap on the Zeiss looks stupid.

That's nice of them, I really need to try one. To bad there not doing the 50% off when buying the m18 anymore.
Ya know i registered for thst with that gun, never used it....i wonder if its still an option.
It was from the site, so full retail, but still a savings.

maybe e-mail them, I doubt it but the message it free lol. I'm thinking a better scope on the m18 would be nice, that Burris is great but something with good turrets. I could put the swfa on it, fixed 10x maybe a pain in the woods but I did shoot the one doe at about 15 yards with it no problem. Ill see about a long action pic rail and maybe some low 30mm rings.
