Scope with good eye relief

As a general rule Leupold has one of the most generous eye relief numbers out there. If that is a primary objective that is where I'd look first. Depending on budget you can get a better scope than Leupold. But I still don't think Leupold is ever a BAD option in the same price range.
Be aware that Leupold, and most others will have VERY generous eye relief at lower magnification and it decreases as you move up. Most Leupolds are well over 4" on the low end, and right at 4" even at higher magnifications. There are some brands that will retain the same eye relief at all magnifications.
I've also been quite pleased by the Meopta Meopro line of scopes. They have been sold under several other names including Zeiss Conquest and Cabela's Instinct. The ones I've used are right at 4" on all magnifications. Unfortunately I've not found a source that has them in stock in months.

Well, most scout scopes have plenty of eye relief, like the Burris Scouts, both a fixed and a zoom model.

I sort of found that a big bore Marlin with level two loads can quickly use up four inches of eye relief and smash my shooting glasses.

Those scout scopes are hard to get far enough forward on a standard rail.
The Burris Timberline has a ridiculously long eye relief, plenty of magnification for hunting 4.5-14, and surprisingly good optically quality.
but its a relatively small scope so would look funny on a larger bolt gun.
If you end up wanting a new elevation turret that matches your loads, you can order one from Kenton that will drop right on.

Hows the adjustments on it? The 3-9x I played with was real indistinct and mushy. The glass was very good for the cost however.

This is great advice.
I've got a 3-9 Mark mod1, and it's actually not horrible for a Leupold. The 6-18 Mark AR i had was much the same.....The Vx-3I with CDS ive got is also pretty much the same.
All of the track pretty well tho I only really did much long-range shooting with the 6-18 and it wasn't really far, but since I was on a 6.5Grendel it DID get dialed more than a faster cartridge would need.
Cant say they have a fantastic feel to them tho.
