SCOPE FOR UNDER £170/$200

What options do you have available, and what is the expected usage for the rifle?

I could be wrong, but I dont think the 525s are incredibly expensive just looking around online.

It really depends on what features you want. I have a couple of nice Monstrum First Focal Plane LPVO scopes (one 1-6x24 and the other 1-4x24). Both are under $200 ($199/$119), but they don’t have any illumination. I also have two Burris Fullfield III 3-9x40 scopes that were about $165 and are nice optics...but again, no illumination.

Nothing under $200 MSRP that I'd recommend. There are several options priced right at $200 that would be acceptable. And of course you can sometimes find stuff discounted. The Burris FF-II is discontinued and sold new at $200, I see them discounted at times closer to $150.

Nikon has stopped making scopes and there are a few of them out there at decent prices. Just be aware that there is no warranty if you get a bad one. They were a decent scope for the money.

And if you don't want anything fancy a Leupold VX-Freedom with a basic duplex reticle is priced right at $200. That is how I'd roll.

Hey @jmr40 when did you hear the ff2s were discontinued? I see some of the options are listed as discontinued for rhe 3-9s but they still list the plain plex qnd the 4.5-14 and 6.5-20s.
If they did discontinue all of them im gonna work harder at grabbing a few more.

I could be mistaken, but I read it somewhere. They are pushing a FF-IV now that is selling at about the same price as the FF-II. There are still a lot of the FF-II's in the system and the ones I see are discounted. That is usually as sign that they are being phased out This was a $200-$220 scope not so long ago.

But then they are still showing them on the Burris website so I'm starting to think I could be wrong. Regardless they are selling at cheaper prices than previously.

I did notice the going rate had dropped, and have been meaning to grab some. I kept putting money into other stuff tho, and if they do drop them I wanna switch back to getting a few.

If you can squeeze a bit more, at around $225 you have these options from Natchez:

The above all have side parallax adjustment down to 10 yards. The Engage is made in China, but has a more complicated reticle. The Primes and Weaver are made in Korea (likely all from the same design since they are Vista Outdoor products) and have simple Plex reticles. The Weaver is a new production Weaver and Natchez exclusive.

If you are fine with a Chinese scopes, there is also the Athlon Neos (under budget):

If you are fine with an AO that only goes down to 50 yards, the Burris Droptine is well within the budget at $159:

Personally I'd won't buy another rimfire scope that doesn't go down to 10-15 yard parallax. That said, I do have a Redfield Revolution on a 10/22 that I had Leupold reset the parallax to 50 yards. I have not had issues with it but we just plink with that rifle.

But as mentioned by Loonwolf, your expected usage would really help narrow it down for you.

EDIT: Natchez also has several Bushnell Nitro scopes, all with 10 yard side parallax. These are Korean scopes that have gotten good reviews.

Depends, if it's mainly a squirrel rifle/plinker. A decent 4x optic would be ideal for most practical purposes at 22lr range. Hawke makes a 4x32AO for under $100 that is a really decent optic.

The mueller apv 4-14x has been surprisingly good and is only like $140 or so. The turret adjustments are not great, but if you don't need to fiddle with it much, the glass was, to my eyes, easily as good as the ff2, sightron s1, etc. Actually, I had a ff2, a diamondback and a sightron s1 and the APV all at the same time at one point. I still have the APV. It was clearer and brighter than the others. The sightron had the best turret feel, the burris felt the most sturdy, The diamondback was the worst of the bunch. Man that was a bad scope. Now, the 1.5-5x diamondback was a good scope.

I'll toss out another positive experience with the APV. I'd probably upgrade to the APT if I were to buy again, but the APV is a solid scope for the price. My biggest complaint with the Muellers is they don't have the most forgiving eye relief/eye box, but thats not as big of a deal with a 22 for me. Mine has sat atop my Savage Mark II since I've owned it, and that combo has been capable of just over .5 moa 3 shot groups from time to time, so I don't plan on changing anything in that setup for the time being.

Natchess has the Burris Droptine .22 rimfire scope on sale for about $120 right now. I bought one. I haven't mounted it yet. I use a Mueller on one of my Target rifles.

This thread got me thinking so I ordered another Tract for a rifle I hope to take delivery on mid-year. The scope is to be available April 1. This new set up gives me lots to look forward to.

Sniper66, might that be the 4~12 40. Bdc? I was just checking out Tract's website, and the same scope with Tplex cught my eye. Just happenstance i found this thread. Whatever rimfire scope i pick will go on top of my Marlin XT .17hmr.

Actually, I already have the BDC model. I ordered the T-Plex because I want that reticle. I plan to put it on a Bergara B-14R 17HMR. This is the first year Bergara has made a 17HMR. My Tract 22Fire 4-12X40 BDC in on a Bergara BXR .22. BTW, a friend of mine has a Marlin 17HMR like yours and has killed lots of prairie dogs with it.

Sniper, It's Wood cucks where I live. Several famers always glad to see me. That Tract on both our rifles should make for a great combo.

Just be sure to get a 50yd. parallax...better yet, would be a adjustable parallax.
