I am a Life Benefactor member. Bought Life for my young sons. If they don't get their act figured out quick I am done with them. I did NOT give them the $$$ I have over the years to buy apartments for mistresses/whores or suits that cost as much as my car.

I waited in line years ago to have Wayne sign his book for me. I was proud of that for many years. It went in the fire pit a few months ago.

I was a LONG time supporter, bought memberships for others, enjoyed going to events to help support them, diehard in my support of the NRA. Now, I am less so and left wondering on them to be honest.

So. While I would love to say YES, do it! I hesitate now to suggest you give them your hard earned money given what they seem to have done with mine, which saddens me as they were once a great organization which I supported without hesitation. Not as easy a call to make as it was a few years ago.

My exact thoughts.

I thought NRA threads were off limits...I guess Ok until somebody gives a 'nay' and mentions the current 'leadership'....
As long as it remains civil the thread can stay open. While there are a lot of NRA threads on the trash heap, most of them got there because members refuse to be adults, start whining, or become uncivil.

You gotta dance with the one ya brung...

Yes (sigh). It's not like we have an abundance of organizations with relatively powerful lobbying arms out there fighting for our 2A rights.

(I wouldn't begrudge buying Wayne's suits if at least he'd start going to the gym and start looking the part of a freedom fighter)

I don't keep up with the news like I probably ought to, but do you all think the organization is aware of these grievances and is changing the way things are done?

First...I totally agree with your post. I did have to re-read it a couple of times as the first reading had me thinking you were cutting off your sons:D

Things to know:
1. There are several levels of Life Member. Once you get one level, NRA will pester you to upgrade to the next level. Even after you reach top level there are special lists and "ORder of..." they ask you to buy into.
2. If you want to pay full fare in order to get money into NRA, fine. However, there are regularly "sales" of life memberships at deep discount from list price.
3. The special membership sales generally include incentive product "gifts." I have upgraded my Life level several times, waiting for a combination of decent discount and "gift" that I actually wanted. I have gotten a decent range bag, a really nice jacket, and a well designed backpack, and never paid more than $350 for the any upgrade.

Notwithstanding the terribly ugly internal politics of the NRA, I value the training (original reason for its founding) and promotion programs they run, that the general public never hears about in press articles.

I became a life member when I was still in High school back in 1970, when I and most other folks around here had nuttin' but great respect for the NRA. With all the inappropriate spending bulllcrap and bankruptcy within their midst lately, not only have I lost most of that respect, I question how long a new "lifetime" membership would last.
