Is this video accurate?

Do fingerprint cards and photo have to be within a given timeframe? As in, could a person get that squared away a day or two in advance of submitting the eform1 and have it ready to put in the mail as soon as the cover letter gets emailed back after submitting the application?

Would it be more sensible to use a common chambering for an SBR than an obscure cartridge? I would be SBRing a TC contender and I have a total of 4 barrels, 2 common calibers and 2 somewhat obscure. My plan would be to use the barrels interchangeably on the SBR reciever. Example being 30-30 Winchester as opposed to 7-30 Waters.

Use whatever barrel on a contender frame you want, but the one that goes on the paperwork you have to retain with the frame in case the BATFE ever wants to look at it. You could engrave the barrel instead of the frame if you want to, since SBR is a configuration that makes a whole gun, not just a receiver.

On my last one the fingerprint cards had been done over a year in advance and they were accepted.

Unless you have an accident, your prints shouldn't change with time.

Absolutely not true.
ATF only requests that permanent changes be reported so they can keep the registry accurate, but no federal law or ATF regulation requires such notification.
As the caliber/cartridge on a Contender can be changed in seconds its not permanent even if you sold the barrel that was on the gun when the Form 1 was filed.

Make sure everything is correct on your fm1. My brother mistyped his serial # and it was denied for ommiting the first letter. On paper forms you can correct them. E forms you start over

I did not say he couldn't use a different barrel on the frame. I said he has to retain the original barrel configuration in case the atf wants to look at it. An SBR has to have an included barrel length on the form description. Its a little hard to say that you have a 10" 30-30 contender SBR if you no longer own a 30-30 barrel that's 10".
I have a 300blk SBR. 8.2" barrel according to my tax stamp. It usually has a 10.5" 300 blk bupper on that lower, but the 8.2" is kept with it, even on range trips, just in case. Call it cheap insurance.

I know thats what you wrote......and its not at all true. AGAIN, no requirement to keep any barrel or "original barrel comnfiguration" because there IS NO SUCH REQUIREMENT IN FEDERAL LAW!

Good grief man, its bad enough that we have ATF regulations, but when guys start inventing requirements that don't exist I have to ask where the heck are you getting your advice?

I have seen conflicting answers to this... Do the fingerprint cards have to be done by law enforcement? Would it have to be done by somebody at the sheriffs office, or could the deputy that I go to church with do it after church?

Absolutely not. Thats the reason Silencer Shop put fingerprint scanning kiosks in gun shops all over the country.

Order the fingerprint cards for free from atf.gov and roll your own.

Q: Can I make changes to my Form 1 firearm?
A: Yes for some, no for others. SBRs or SBSs can have barrel length and caliber altered, though you need to either retain the ability to configure it as listed on the Form 1, or send a letter to NFA branch permanently amending form 1. AOWs can be altered in some ways similar to SBR/SBS, but you should inquire with ATF before making changes, since AOW is not a well-defined category. DDs can have length configuration changed, but not caliber AFAIK. Silencers are a done deal once completed, and can only be repaired by an 07/02 or 10/02. Silencers also cannot have their length or caliber changed by anyone, ever, except minimal shortening for repair purposes. About the only thing a Form 1 builder can change on a silencer is the mount, or the front cap with certain limitations. An 07/02 or 10/02, however, can repair or replace any part of a Form 1 Silencer except the serialized tube.

You can roll your own as dogtown tom stated. They just need to be as clear as you can get them. Silencerco kiosks keep your prints for 5 years and don't have problems so we can too.

Those are his FAQ's, not ATF's.
Again, there is no ATF regulation that says you are required to retain or keep the original configuration of an SBS or SBR as shown on the Form 1 or Form 4. As a matter of fact, you can take a factory SBS or SBR add a longer barrel and voila!.........you have a Title I shotgun or rifle and are not required by any federal law or ATF regulation to notify ATF.

Now.......ATF DOES request, note thats request that you notify them so they can make a notation in the registry. But again, its not required.
