Primer pocket uniforming

The LC .223 cases I get are swaged in the primer pocket, so I use the deburr tool on my case prep machine to gently cut it out.

I only load handgun cartridges and try to use same headstamp brass, so I figure the primer pockets should be fairly uniform already. Besides, I don't think I would notice (or could shoot) the difference if I did uniform them.

I use the RCBS version, but only to clean them out and to make sure the crimp was removed properly. Very useful to me for that pupose. I guess my vote should be for every case, but I dont shoot well enough for it to matter, so I dont want to skew your poll.

As Walkalong said, I use a uniformer on the cases that I expect a lot of accuracy from. I have a .223 and a .308 that will shoot very nicely if I do the proper prep. I have tried uniformed cases on other rifles, but can't say if it has improved accuracy or not. On handgun cases, I haven't even tried.

I generally only uniform .30-06 cases I'm going to fire in the M1...primarily for avoiding possible slamfires. Although that tool does such a stellar job of cleaning primer pockets I've considered getting one sized for SR. Would not bother with any handgun rounds though

Seems to make loading any surplus military case much better.

I have uniformed multiple primer pockets but, having never seen any appreciable accuracy improvement, I no longer do it.

When I have a gun that will shoot (custom all my bolt guns are) I will start with new brass say 100p probably Lapua end up with 30p give are take after weighing them and checking run out and finding the high spots in the case. Then I will turn the necks uniform primer pockets and the flash holes, in most guns these little things won't show but with a rifle that will shoot sub 1/4" it makes a differance. The other thing I will say about it is in larger gas guns M1A AR-10 M1 it can be a safty concern helping to prevent a slam fire.

I use Whitetail Design & Engineering LTD Small/large Rifle Primer Pocket Uniformer.

i uniform them all. anything to try and prevent flyers.

I uniform all of mine. I have one of the Whitetail tools for large rifle and use a Sinclair tool for small rifle.

For military brass with crimps I use a RCBS trim mate tool to remove crimp & uniform primer pocket. I don't use on commercial brass.

I do all the rifle brass, but prior to the first loading. The rifles I shoot are not match rifles, so it probably do much, but I seem to be OCD about it.

I clean handgun cases, but not uniform them.

I have removed military primer crimps, but never "uniformed" any. Not even on my 308 Win. "Accurate Loads" which give me 7/8" groups @100 even with LC brass...

Edit; I remove primer crimps with a 60 degree x 1/2" countersink. I have decrimped many, many cases since about '90, handgun, rifle, foreign and domestic. Never "uniformed" nor "swaged" any primer pockets for any of the 12 calibers I reload...

Yes after I swage all 5.56 and LC 223 brass. No for pistol brass unless it's really nasty range brass that was tumbled with spent primers still in.
BTW, thanks to the OP for bringing this up, I thought I was the only one having issues with LC 223 brass.

I uniform the military crimped 556 cases. Bought and tried the RCBS swage tool for this operation and it is the biggest PITA I have ever used.

^^^This. But, for all of my service-rifle loads, especially 7.62x54R and .303Brit. even though the headspace off the case rim. Service rifles tend to have very aggressive firing pins.
