1st. Are they legal ? Will it creep off the
end of the barrel? I want it for a tc encore
308 win. barrel.

Muzzle brakes are legal. They do tend to increase the blast that reaches the shooter and may annoy people on the sides.

The M1 Carbine T13 recoil check (muzzle brake) clamped around the front sight, as did the T23 flash suppressor and M8 grenade launcher.
With the front sight as anchor, the clamp-on muzzle devices for the M1 Carbine stayed in place.

Muzzle devices may change the harmonics of the barrel and may improve, degrade, or have no effect on accuracy.

I generally view clamp or set screw brakes as nothing more than an opportunity to test the concept of the particular - or nearly - brake on a particular gun.

What it takes to have complete confidence in them not moving is usually close enough to turning & threading that one might as well go all in. But, if their quality is high enough and directly compatible with the barrel profile, they can be made as sound as the pound.

I also wouldn't generally bother with one long term if it has merely 2 cross-screws.

Todd.

I had a FAL with the barrel chopped back in the banned days, I put on a set screw muzzle brake, shot just fine and stayed in place. I heard folks had set screw muzzle brakes flew away in shooting. Crank the set screws too tight may deform the muzzle, not a good thing. Also added a set screw type muzzle brake to one of my SKSs, but the brake also locks on to the front sight post.
