It seems to me the most of the talk about gun-buying on this forum falls into two categories one self-defense either open carry or concealed carry or two shooting on the Range. Well that's perfectly understandable and makes good sense to me
But what about a third category of buying a gun just for fun? I am currently looking at buying an NAA Wasp .22 wmr/Lr convertible.
Now this gun is of no use to me for personal defense that would be my Kimber micro 9 for open carry or my Ruger LCP 2 for concealed carry.
Likewise on the Range it's of little use that would be my Walther P22 for practicing my shooting techniques.
But I just like the NAA wasp like the way it looks just think it's really cool why not buy just for fun?
What about you guys what have you bought just for fun:p?

With the exception of a couple of duty guns, which like hammers, saws and nails are essential tools of a trade, every gun I buy is bought for fun. :)

The fun factor is what keeps me interested in the hobby. If guns, shooting, hunting and/or reloading weren’t fun, I’m sure most of us would quickly move on to something else that was. ;)

Stay safe.

YES! YES! ^^ THAT^^ describes it in a nutshell! I feel the same way. Even though I enjoy shooting my designated EDC's immensely. I cannot begin to tell you the unbridled pleasure I get from handling and shooting my P30.

Good point Rio I was just thinking in terms of the post on this forum about pistols tend to center around self-defense or Target work but I get what you're saying

Maybe "on this forum" we mostly talk about guns in those two categories, but most of my wife's and my guns don't fall into either category. We each have guns for concealed carry and/or home defense, but most of our guns are for hunting (big game, varmints, pheasants and grouse, and waterfowl), and we don't even go to the "Range" - we used to shoot at one "Range" or another when we were shooting competitively (IHMSA) but that was a long time ago. We also have a couple of guns that we use for nothing other than pest control - mostly in the vegetable/berry garden.
Nevertheless, to answer your question - yes, I have a gun that I bought just because I thought it would be fun - my Glock 44. It turned out to not only be a lot of fun, I also use that little pistol as my "kit" gun while fishing, and I killed a few ground squirrels as well with it last spring. The fact that it's the same size as my Glock 19 (my favorite CCW) is a plus.
My wife has a little Ruger Bearcat that she uses for many of the same things - fun, her "kit" gun, and shooting close-range ground squirrels. Of course my wife's Bearcat is not at all like her favorite CCW - a Smith Shield EZ.
Just a few days ago I spotted a gun on the cover of a magazine in the grocery store that I thought would be a ton of fun - a Pedersoli "Howdah" pistol (double barrel, double trigger, .45 Colt/.410 shotgun with 10.25" barrels). As soon as I saw the price ($1,395) though, I even put the magazine back on the rack. My wife and I can't afford that much fun gun.

I recently purchased a home made .22 caliber Muzzle loading rifle just for the novelty of it. Turns out, I am having a blast (pun intended) shooting .22 caliber air rifle pellets out of it. Very accurate, and I may try it out on squirrels this fall.

I've never seen a .22 caliber muzzle loader. What make and model?
It is home made using a .22 Rim Fire barrel cut off at the end of the breach and a breech plug fitted to it.It uses a mall percussion lock from a pistol and has a drum & nipple arrangement. The stock is also from a .22 LR rifle I believe. It is a full length stock with pewter nose cap. It is really a nicely put together piece. I bought it as part of a trade for a Jig saw I was getting rid of.

My idea of a fun gun would be something like my Beretta Model 70S or my Ruger Single Six. I love plinking away at empty soup cans or filled up water bottles with a .22!

I also enjoy shooting my single action revolvers, taking my own sweet time with my Ruger Vaquero or Beretta Stampede, both in .45. Colt. If playing around with these two at an outdoor range doesn't put a big smile on your face I dont know what will!

I sure would like to see a pic of that! :)

I'm in this group. My carry and self-defense needs are met and I don't favor changing those tools frequently. When I find something to buy these days it's just something interesting I did not have, or that I will take pleasure in having and shooting. This year so far it's been a Gold Cup National Match, a Smith 57 and a Smith 66, and a Marlin 1894.

I often think someday I'll have a collection of revolvers that shoot kind of outdated pistol cartridges, just cause it would be interesting to reload fo them, and since the cartrdiges are not so easy to come by, the associated revolvers are not high demand. Currently, I have none - but, something has to get saved for retirement.

Fun is just as good a justification as anything else.
Technically, all of my wife's and my hunting guns are "just for fun." Besides that, I'm sure there are meals out there that are better for us, and I know there are meals out there that are less expensive, but there is no meal anywhere that is more "fun" to eat than my wife's chicken-fried venison steak with biscuits and gravy.;)

Altho I use my guns for specific purposes, like CCW..all my guns are FTS(Fun TO Shoot)..otherwise they are gone.
