I have to say the bulk CCI stuff has been great compared to the other bulk 22LR in my recent experience. I took second at my first NRL22 match running CCI AR bulk ammo in my 10/22 against guys running SK and Lapua. That same bulk ammo runs flawless in my 22LR AR and let me take second at the last carbine match. Bulk Remington Thunder-duds or Golden Jamingtons would not have run as malfunction free in either of those guns. If they are cheap enough Golden Bullet bulk is fine for plinking but I would still rather pay a few dollars more for bulk CCI. I have never seen Thunderbolts cheap enough or been desperate enough for 22LR to role those dice.

Remington golden bullet a whole different situation, my experience it tends to be very accurate ammo for budget bulk ammo. Here is target test with my Savage 62 again and you can see the golden was among the best performer. The problem these days you get what ammo you can get for now, I have A LOT of TB and Federal 550 so regardless of not being so accurate it is what I'm shooting for now.

I agree. My point here is anytime the name Remington Thunderbolt is tossed out a dozen people feel a need to drag out a soap box and claim they suck. No mention of why they suck and a lousy firearm can easily make them suck. When I get a failure to fire I look at the primer strikes. I have a S&W Model 17 that plants a firm primer strike and a Ruger 10/22 that strikes primers much lighter. Remington Thunderbolts and Golden bullets work fine for me.

And I agree with that. I have shot A LOT of Thunderbolt in the last few years and I really can't remember one fail to fire, in either handgun or rifle be it bolt action or semi auto. The Winchester 555 I have had a couple fail to fire, not much but some, and of all the ammo I have tried have had no jams or anything except Aguila ammo doesn't feed well in some semi auto's. However my favorite ammo over all is Aguila super speed in terms of accuracy out of my bolt actions. Armscor isn't bad either. CCI isn't bad, but the golden bullet does well also and in my Savage it actually does the best.

So yeah the rants on Remington I don't jump on that train either. But if I didn't already have .22 on hand I would just not shoot .22 for now because $85 for any bulk .22 is insane .

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Many of us have formed that opinion from our own personal experience. My experience with Thunderbolts is inaccuracy, along with a fair amount of duds. Yes, turning the unfired cartridge a quarter turn and trying it again usually results is a projectile exiting the barrel, but in the past, the cost was small enough that the unfired bullet usually ended up ejected and forgotten. Not so much at 17 cents a round. Most duds from bulk .22 LR is not from light strikes, but because the primer compound is not applied to the entire rim. This is a failure on the ammo makers part, not the firearm. If your experience is different from mine, so be it. But it doesn't change my experience, nor my opinion. As for the soapbox, it appears you have drug one out too. At $30 a brick the quality of Thunderbolts may be acceptable, but not at $85 a brick.

Sometimes I wish I had a memory like some posters here. (Remembering what they paid for something decades and decades ago.)

Last time I purchased Thunderbolts, they were either a dime or quarter for the 50rd paper box.

I’ve had better results historically with Thunderbolts than with the Golden Bullet bulk packs. A guy at my club had a new box that was producing around 30% misfires.

After I started shooting with a silencer I bought a case of the Eley bulk ammo that CMP was selling a few years ago, and a case of CCI standard velocity from Target Sports. I’m feeling pretty good about both of those investments now.

Just as an FYI, you can buy a brick of Eley Club from CMP for the same price. Actually less considering CMP ships for free.

Same here for HV. I shoot Aguila through all my 10/22s and it stays right with or outshoots CCI SV at 50 yds.
I have not had time with favorable wind conditions to try 100. I also have a few cases of Aguila's Centurion brand, which
I shoot in non-target bolt and lever guns.

Regarding Thunderbolt, it's bulk ammo, but it doesn't really do much worse than Bulk Federal 550 or Winchester 555.

The main trouble I have had with both the Rem. GBs and the Win. 555s has not been with a high failure to fire rate,
but rather getting them into the chamber in the first place.
When I can easily spin the bullet around in the case and, with no effort, tip the majority of those bullets in the case
to the point that it feels like they would pull by hand...

There is .22 LR ammunition out there worth $7.00 to $10.00 a 50 round box but not Remington Thunderbolts.

How very diplomatic sir.

Wow, I am buying SK Standard Plus locally for less that the thunder-duds even including local sales tax.
When cheap ammo is expensive buy the expensive ammo. Since the last shortage I have bought rimfire by the case.
I stopped using Remington rimfire because it was the dirtiest ammo I ever used.

Being dirty wouldn't bother me that much if they were reliable. Unfortunately in my semis they are not. I am using the SK because, they are available locally at decent prices given the market, and they do this in my 10/22.

5-shots at 50 yards.

And none of the bulk stuff gets close to this especially Remington.

I've had a lot of misfires with Thunderduds. Turn them a quarter turn and theyu go bang. Uneven distribution of the priming. Haven't bought any for while. Can't remember a misfire with any other 22 LR.

Curious i use older WWSX and Wildcat without issue. Anyone have problems with these?

Not if they are older enough. Plenty of issues with newer (the last 4 years or so) Winchester, including misfires and so so accuracy. Frequent misfires with Winchester .17 HMR as well. To the point where I won’t buy any more, even in these days of scarcity.

Since I have nothing good to say about Remington rimfire ammo I will keep my comments about them to myself. As to the best performing (clean shooting, accurate, and reliable), rimfire ammo in my guns I would have to go with Wolf Match Target, then CCI Standard Velocity, and finally CCI MiniMags. In bulk packs Federal Auto Match is about as good as it gets with a small percentage of duds as compared to what I experience with Winchester and Remington bulk ammo.

My 10/22 really like Wolf Match Target but it has been unobtainable for the past several months. The SK Standard+ and Flatnose Target shoots nearly as good and has been available locally for me.

I just wonder if the new thunderduds are any better than the old ones. Surely a new owner will at least halfheartedly attempt to solve the issues thunderduds have.

Try a brick or two of “centurion” 22lr and you will suddenly have positive comments for thunderbolt ammo.

Thanks for the suggestion but I'm pretty well set with .22LR that I really don't have any pressing need or desire to sample any more Remington ammo, no matter how good it might be.

Mine too along with every other .22 I have. Once I discovered how good Wolf Match Target ammo was, I stocked up on it big time. Found it for an unbelievable low price at a gun show and bought all the vendor had to sell; some 10 bricks in all. I couldn't get my credit card out fast enough!

Nope, No way. Someone else can pay the rediculous prices if they want. I'll just sit back and laugh.
