The SKS: Don’t Overlook It

Not enough people care about anything except getting their free government handouts so they can get new toys and drugs. The franchise has finally realized that they can simply elect to be supported by the Republic, thus it falls. Frankly, Im surprised it took this long, but here we are.
Ive been utilizing my government hand out (hey, it is our money :)) as best I can for "toys".

Tried to get drugs too (Hydroxychloroquine), but the government-run doctors here wont go for it, so I had to spend it on more toy stuff. :p

I think both the M1 carbine and the SKS is on the list from the wicked witch of the west,
Are you talking about B.A.B.R. ( the Bay Area Broom Rider ) or S.I.N.O. ( The Speaker in Name Only?) Lol. To get on topic, I also bought an SKS back in the late 80s and of course I sold it and wish I still had it. I rather liked the thing, too.

Ivermectin works just as well and is available at any feed store, tractor supply. Make sure you know what the dosing is. They also may have some ammo. (To make this gun related).

P.s. I am not a doctor or pharmacist. Do your own research.

A couple of people I know around here have been getting it from the Amish/ Buggy Mennonites.

I asked my doctor, and he said he wasn't allowed to prescribe it, which I think is BS, but I cant get a straight answer from anyone to prove it.

And to keep it gun related, he didn't have any ammo either. Worthless! :)

I have what appears to be an unissued Yugo SKS that I bought when a bunch of them were imported way back. I spent about a week cleaning out all the cosmoline, ran 20 rounds through it, and put it away. I have been tempted many a time to sell it off, but have held on to it. I have a ton of 7.62x39 that I bought cheap over the years (to feed an AKM), so if things get as stupid as some fear I should be in good shape.

Do your Tractor Suppy stores sell ammo? Ive been asking my local store to contact their mother ship about this, but the employees dont seem to take me seriously (or dont care).

Perhaps they don't, it may have been the farmers co-op that I am thinking of. Both stores seem the same to me and both are frequented by me. I also go to my feed store where ivermectin is also sold. We keep it on hand for our goats, who as you may guess, complain about the lack of ammunition availability.

Just be careful. We give the stuff to reindeer for parasite mitigation. At least you won’t have worms.

I’m really not too fussed about stacking any guns without the features that may or may not be banned.

The market will begin developing anything that will slide through any cracks in legislation be it fixed magazines, manual only actions, etc. No need to rely on a vintage market.

I don't know why some feel the need to add useless comments. Keep scrolling if you don't have anything to add or concur with.
Anyway, back on topic, I had a moment of weakness and traded my Chinese SKS for a CZ52 and a lawnmower. Happy with the CZ, but wish I'd kept the SKS. However, I did keep my Chzec made SKS and it's actually pretty acurate. For some reason, 7.62x39 ammo is regularly available around here. Mostly Wolf steel case and PMC, but at least it's available and still reasonably priced.

I have a Chinese SKS that I really enjoy. I think the SKS even has a few benefits over the AK: Last shot hold open, longer barrel, milled receiver, etc. However, that being said, if I were marching off to war, I'd still choose an AK over an SKS

The last round hold open seems to be more of an American shooter worry than anything. Not having it is really not a big deal, and when you learn to use a gun that doesn't have one, you actually learn to reload all of them properly. At least from a closed bolt. (Of course, open bolt guns are the exception here. :))

A BLO is never a guarantee (Ive had the bolt go forward on plenty of empty mags with AR's), and if the bolt is forward on doing a reload, you should always still stroke the charging handle after inserting the mag, hold open or not. That way the gun "is" always loaded.

If the bolt is going forward on an empty mag in an AR something is wrong with the rifle (or mag).

Last round bolt hold open is much faster to reload. Especially in an AR when you can feel it lock back in the first place.

It happens, and often enough its not odd.

And if youre used to doing the mag change, both ways are pretty quick and similar. Both are also better than trying to get all 10 rounds into an SKS with a stripper. :)

Plus with drop free mags, the AR is faster all around.

But I like the bolt hold open on the SKS, even with stripper clips you can get pretty fast.

The main thing I don't like about the SKS is the bayonet

All my AK's drop the mags without touching them if I want. Do it without taking my hand off the grip too.

If it hasn't happened yet with your AR, it will at some point. I find it happens more with mine if I have the suppressor mounted, but it does it without too.

The drill is the same with a gun without a BHO too. Bolt forward, you always stroke the charging handle after inserting the mag.

I think a ton of people are absolutely missing the point of the thread.

This isn’t SKS vs AK or AR, but just a notice that an SKS might be one of the better defensive rifle options in a worse case scenario SHOULD a ban ultimately pass. Many older members (me included) own one or more of them and they are gathering dust. Just might be worth dusting them off soon.

If a ban actually passes, I want the best gun Ive got, not the one that tries to appease someone.

The point should be, don't cave to BS laws. Do what it takes to not let them happen and fight them as hard as you can go if they do.

My Chinese SKS is sporting Tech Sights, which is a big improvement. Just for everyone's information one has to file the retainment "nubs" off the rear cross bolt on the dust cover to completely remove the crossbolt to replace with the supplied hardware with the sight. Other than that it's as simple as installing the sight and removing the rear sight so the sight picture isn't obscurred but this part can be returned to original condition.

My SKS has the removable mag conversion, so I have some 10,20, and 30rd mags for it. You can not get a new mag in mine unless the bolt is at least partially open, and it's a little more awkward than AR, or AK, and even a mini 14, but still beats using stripper clips

If people won't defend freedom with their AR15's then what makes you think they'll suddenly have a change of heart and defend it with an inferior SKS? Laws will be passed banning one type of firearm after another until Americans find themselves on Lexington Green again with muskets in their hands wondering how they let it get that far.

Some bunch of drool bucket communist politicians can ' ban ' anything they want, fireplaces, shopping without a mask, semiautomatic rifles, driving gasoline powered cars, it all comes down to what your line in the sand actually is.
You can cower and comply, or do what you must to be an American citizen.
The time to decide is very rapidly approaching

Spoken like a REAL 3%er!!
Count me in!!

If we want to talk about SKSs, that's fine. But I don't care if a ban is passed. I will not comply with a BS ban. I'll use whatever I deem best as my defensive rifle regardless what some idiot in DC does. I would hope the rest of you would follow suit, and not just roll over to a ban (that would likely include the SKS).

We are all law abiding citizens, but we've gotta have our line in the sand somewhere.
