Hand Brace BAN

Probably should have never been legal in the 1st place. From the beginning it was really, really a stretch to claim they were anything but a short barreled rifle.

And I have one. My thoughts were that a loophole in the intent of the law made it legal for me to own an AR rifle with a 10" barrel. But I saw this coming months ago and ordered a new rifle upper and butt stock to convert mine to a rifle when this happened.

You might expound a bit on your thinking. Asking why can provoke many answers from snark to serious.

Consider these 2 statements (paraphrasing twitter user Open Source Defense):

1. The NFA is an 87-year-old law, and pistol braces are dancing around the edges of it. The ATF should scrutinize braces for compliance.

2. The police should take you to prison for ten years if your rifle’s barrel is 15” long instead of 16".

The first statement, at first blush, sounds reasonable, the second statement seems rather draconian. They're are, for all intents and purposes, the same statement.

The quantifiable threat is to Joe Biden's reelection campaign coffers if he has nothing to show his antigun backers that he "did something" about "gun violence." They will take their money and votes elsewhere.

Because they look scary to hoplophobes.

Your title is provocative. Then your narrative is just one word. Please, elaborate.

I do see two big problems, with pistol braces. Manufacturers have been releasing successive braces, that keep looking more and more like stocks. And, end-line users keep modifying braces, to make them more like stocks, and gleefully posted images and videos, on-line, showing their modified brace-stocks, in own-worst-enemy fashion.

One major manufacturer of “braces” is making products that hurt my arm, if I try to use them as arm braces, but they sure do seem to be comfortable if happen to briefly and inadvertently place them against my shoulder. Really, who do they think they are fooling?

I count myself among those who have a physical injury/problem that can be helped my a REAL arm brace on a handgun; a brace that does not pretend to be a stock. The Tailhook is such a helpful arm brace. It can help me with my worsening arthritis and nerve impingement issue. I am hoping that the BATFE does not throw the baby out with the bathwater, by enacting a policy that lumps the helpful braces, such as the Tailhook, with the stocks-pretending-to-be-braces.

Who needs a brace, anyway? This guy doesn’t. Notice that he is not shouldering his weapon.

Could we have a link? Anybody got a link on the latest on this. The OP was pretty vague.

Not to sure that’s legal unless you had your lower registered as other when you purchased it. If the serial # was registered as a pistol than that’s all it can ever be. You would have a long barreled pistol now. Still could not install a rifle butt on it legally.[/QUOTE]

Absolutely. Because I know I could never get shot with a shotgun, a stocked AR w/20 inch barrel, a single action revolver, a 1911, a derringer, nor any other gun. Or an AR pistol sans hand brace.

I feel so much safer knowing it's not the gun that kills, but the Hand Brace.

I have noticed that a good few, honestly more than I would expect on this board seem eager to give the braces the go by, and dismiss them altogether as a tacticool, gimmicky, gun bro thing or criticize it for toeing the line too close into "NFA" territory, but is there a particular reason aside from that that people are so dismissive of them.

I could have really cared less about them personally, I am perfectly content with a 16" carbine but would you guys have the same attitude toward 14.5" barrels with pinned and welded md's. I mean what if that was the next thing? "gun owners exploiting a loophole allowing them to shorten their guns OAL by 1" by way of welding on a muzzle device" It all seems just as arbitrary and pointless to pursue.


I became interested in them because my wife is very small statured and my carbines are too unwieldy for her, we have tried to overcome it. My solution was to buy a 10.5, pistol brace and kept the weight down to a minimum by only installing irons and now she has a formidable weapon that she can maneuver without excessive strain prohibiting her from using it. It was a handy solution honestly. Are our lives over without it? No. But it's annoying the metrics we have grown accustomed to, people seem to have no sense of scale. A handful of people use their guns inappropriately and that's the tipping point? Really. 80 million people need to be castrated because of these isolated incidents?

I don’t remember firearm limitations being discussed in association with the “penning” of The Second Amendment! As none were discussed......it was to ascertain the “people” to defend themselves from a tyrannical government! memtb

So,
If the Duminati that is our government figure out one doesn’t need a stock nor a brace, would they all force us to shoot piston guns like the HK folder and the FN SCAR?

Or perhaps force us all into bull pups, which must have a stock to encapsulate the action? Resulting in an over all shorter more concealable rifle?

I'm happy the argument on legality of them will finally be over. I got rid of mine months ago and finished off a form 1 for my firearm.

Bought a Ruger Charger darn near 2 years ago wanting to brace it-----never got around to it and will probably get rid of the Charger because I really don't like it as is.
