In addition to the Astra 600 I also got a Mauser Model 1914 .32 ACP. These are a neat and novel little gun. Very comfortable in the hand, mild recoil. It even has semi-decent sights, a rarity for a small pistol from this era. The safety is interesting; there's a lever behind the trigger-guard. Press it down and the safety is engaged and the slide is locked. Press the button directly underneath it and the safety disengages. The slide locks back on empty... even if there is no magazine in the gun. The only way to drop the slide is to insert a magazine, loaded or not. This was so you could reload just a wee bit faster. Disassembly is unconventional but easy.

I tested using Winchester White Box 71gr. FMC and a handload using a 78gr. LFP. The gun functioned flawlessly, was very comfortable in the hand and was accurate and pleasant to shoot. The trigger is a little strange; there's some take-up but it's super smooth. You never feel the trigger break. Reset isn't super short but it's quite positive. All this adds up to a gun that is easy to rapid-fire accurately. I love this gun! I'm going to get another magazine or two, and if it continues to be this reliable I might use it for discreet carry.

I fired this rapid-fire target at seven yards, 1st magazine through the gun:

I have one of these, too. I always thought they looked neat. Not necessarily beautiful and not really strange, just kinda neat. Mine was, I think, a WW2 bring back, as it has a vet’s name and number written inside the holster under the flap. I took it to the range and it seemed to jam and the mag got stuck, so I put it in the “projects” column. Probably needs a good field strip, cleaning, and a hundred rounds through it. Then COVID happened and ammo dried up, so there she sits for now.

I want one of the .25s too.

I have had 3 HSc none of which was very reliable. They are very ergonomic pistols. Way ahead of their time, ergonomic before ergonomic was a word. The only issue is everyone I have shot was a jamomatic. They look good but don't act right just like several women I have known.

I believe the 25acp version is what Hitler's niece supposedly committed suicide with.

I had one many years ago and traded it for no good reason. It was during my unconventional pistol era. Still have a HSc and a Savage, both in.32, from that time but gone are the preW1 Mausers and Walthers. If you can find a Walther of the same era, the model escapes me but it has a barrel shroud that turns off for disassembly, they are a good companion to the Mauser. Oddly addictive little guns they are.

Maybe the Walther Model 4 that actually has the port on the Port side.

HSC - Biggest disappointment i ever had with a handgun. I wondered why it was nearly NIB and so cheap. The only thing it would do reliably (with any make of ammo) was jam. I have heard dozens of similar complaints over the decades including a few range accidents trying to clear the POS!! Got added to shop list of shame -- guns we won't work on.

Original production or the Italian "re-issue"?

I have a 1914 but haven’t fired it. The firing pin is not really correct, and I haven’t found one I was willing to pay for. I also had a issues with a rusted and pitted serial number so I have finally found and replaced the slide with one very close in serial range. I need to try to fix my firing pin or fix the “tail”

I have heard the same thing about the HSC in 380, very unreliable. The wartime HSC in 32acp that I have has been totally reliable.

Beautiful old 1914 OP. They are neato, though Ive never fired one...

I need to throw in a good word here for the much maligned HSc in 9x17.
Mine is an actual Mauser (not Italian) but post war manufactured. It does in fact hiccup on some JHP (lookin at you Sierra) but will run all day on the old Winchester silvertips, and new XTPs. And It’s never choked on any FMJ.
It sure feels nice to handle, but it’s recoil is pretty stout.
With the same ammo, it shoots about150FPS faster than my 238 does.
