I got bored one day over the winter and realized I had all the parts laying around to make my own target retrieval. Thought I would share incase someone else hasn't already thought of it.
Works great on calm afternoons like today.
Of course my back yard and deck is a perfect layout for this but adding a pole and another pulley would work on level ground also.
Fully deployed I have exactly 100yds distance.
Components:
Two ratchet straps.
Two pulleys with swivel mounts .
One used spindle from lawnmower deck.
700feet of 5/32 poly/nylon rope. (About $75)
10' of 1/2" pvc and two "t"
A piece of angle metal about 4x4x12" long
2'x2' piece of sign material or something to stick targets to , I used scrap piece of TPO roof material.

BTW, the angle on the hanging beam is on purpose. My shooting bench is 10' to the right, so the target is facing straight at me. The top piece of pvc is actually hanging on a separate loop of rope fastened to the main rope. So the target always hangs in correct orientation and also allows entire target fixtures to be easily removed , or I can pull a hitch pin and just remove the lower beam and target.

I hadn't even thought of that, but if I get someone else to run the drill for me, that could be fun!

I'll like to have a little plausible deniability and say I'm working smarter instead of harder! Lol.
But in truth, the time I was spending going to the target to replace it or patch the holes will now be spent doing more shooting or reloading or something else productive.

Red Green would absolutely give two thumbs-up on that... I mean supposing neither thumb was currently bandaged down.

One man's *laziness* is merely another man's efficiency of energy.

More time for the shooting' or shooting more often for the lowered time commitment involved.

I dig it.

Nice! How long does it take to run the target the full distance (in or out)?

I'm using an old 18v Dewalt 1/2" drill and it will cover the whole distance in about 25 seconds on high speed.
I could probably find a larger drive pulley for the spindle, but it's fast enough for me.

Would need to police up the foot pedal & motor when not in use, but, it would be an answer.

Or a foot controlled trolling motor.

Any possibility of like an 18" L bracket offset to the side of the tree, so it's not in direct line with the tree or pole or anything else anchoring the other end?
 
Actually, my shooting bench is about 12' to the right , so at the angle I shoot, as long as I hit the target backer, or close to it, I should miss the tree.
 
The foot controlled trolling motor is a possibility, I might have one of those around here somewhere.
