Berry's vs. Xtreme 9mm Accuracy Test

Xtreame seems to be more accurate to me. Results may be different on another day.

My first impression was that the Xtreme were more accurate but that is likely because the "holes" seemed clustered closer together. The spread seems about the same. Maybe the Xtreme is a little more consistent. Like 243winxb suggests, results may be different on another day.

I like accura's bullets. They have a in stock notice feature too. I do use Berrys for what accura does not carry. And when i stop at Cabalas ill grab some Xtreme while im there. I recently ordered Berry's .223 from Scheels. They are jacketed not plated.

Then you have to ask whether that difference in meaningful. Based on your results, no.

If I take 50 124gr 9mm Berry's and 50 124gr Xtreme and load the exactly the same way and then dump them all together and shoot them from the same gun at the same distance to the same target I couldn't tell you which was which. So now I just buy whichever is cheapest. But then I'm only shootin out to 25yds at most.

What about HSM's bullets? Any1 ever use their 9mm bullets?

YOU were more consistent with the X-tremes, but unless you were shooting from a rest, I doubt that was the bullet's fault.

One group each is not even close to enough to show any meaningful difference, and those groups look effectively identical to me. Shoot 20 10-shot groups from a ransom rest and measure them with calipers and you might be able to see a difference but I bet you a nickel you won’t. I basically use xtreme and berry’s plated RN interchangeably as long as the bullet design and weight are the same.

I haven’t ordered from xtreme since they went bankrupt a couple of years ago but I’ve seen many people who have and haven’t had issues. They were my go-to for a lot of years.

Those groups were not significantly different, and the only conclusion one could make is that there was no difference in group size between those bullets.

Keep in mind that shooting separate groups with the SAME ammo will produce groups of different sizes. This has been demonstrated multiple times even with a handgun in a Ransom Rest.

Here's an example from an article (https://americanhandgunner.com/handguns/exclusive-consistent-velocity-accuracy/) where they fired twenty 15-shot groups with the same ammo from a Ransom Rest at 25 yards. The difference between the largest and smallest group was a factor of 2.8. The smallest 15-shot group was 1.07". The largest 15-shot group was 3.02". With the SAME ammo!

The whole bullet is plated. And over the core too.

By itself, that means nothing. It only means that's what you happened to shoot that day, and could be any combination of your skill, good ammo and luck. You know that.

You say you let 2 get out of the group. Where those called fliers? Or your excuse for holes that weren't in the 6-shot hole?

Real accuracy testing is done from a rest or ransom rest and at greater distance, like 25 yards.

For the record, I've shot RMR's Match Winners at 25 yards from a gun in a Ransom Rest and agree that they are a very accurate bullet. Example with Sport Pistol; 3.9 grains, OAL = 1.100, CCI 500, average speed = 1076 fps, 15 shots in just under 1.40" at 25 Yards from a 5" Kart barrel. That's pretty good accuracy. Most powder combinations I use with this, and other RMR match Winner bullet weights, produce good accuracy.

I used to try to load everything I handloaded to be the most accurate thing evarrr... then I realized that very likely the pistol I was shooting them in was not up to the task of actually showing minute accuracy differences in loads. These days, I temper my expectations... and handloading efforts... to what I'm actually loading for, what purpose, and how they are likely to be fired. My 9mm Kahrs probably don't care about the differences between any 124grn plated bullet I stuff into them... if the load is safe, reaches a velocity threshold I'm happy with, and shows reasonable reliability and accuracy... I pop a beer and call it a day. If I had a target pistol, or were loading for strict target purposes... well, that's a different story.
