Just saw one at Rural King. Looks to be about the size of a full size SIG pistol.

Any experience with them?

I have a SIG Mosquito that has been pretty reliable with HV ammo with a bunch of different magazines, which was a departure from the original complaints of the guns being jam-o-matics no matter what was shot through them.

I love the feel of the gun in my hands, but the trigger and sights leave a lot to be desired. It’s not as accurate nor as easy to shoot as my Ruger Mark pistols, but it feels a bit more like a “combat” gun than the Rugers do...so for training it may be a bit more “realistic.”

A lot of fair to poor reviews on the GSG Firefly Model, just like when it was SIG branded as the Mosquito, so it may not be worth the hassles if you can find a more reliable and higher rated Taurus, Glock or Walther .22 to train with.

Stay safe.

When mosquitoes first came out a friend bought one. Me and it were like peas and carrots. I did everything I could to buy it from him. He still has it. Other mosquitoes don’t fit me exactly the same as that one, and they certainly don’t shoot the same.

If the firefly truly is the same as a mosquitoe then I would be on it.

Friend has a sig mosquito, that was the very definition of jam o matic. even mini mags and stingers wouldn't cycle the thing worth a darn.
That being said - if you want to put in the work, they can be made to function reasonably well. Steady even. Although I will say at it's best it's a still a pop can plinker in terms of accuracy.

After buying several spare springs and parts and the like from sig (which was also an entertaining adventure). We did finally get the thing to run decent. I swore we had rendered it useless a few times in the process. But after much polishing, tweaking, spring modifications, and many many rounds of ammo later. It's now something that's at least fun to use, that will run with most standard ammo.

Rural King carries it, if you have one close to you. Go to the RKguns website and order

I would recommend you pass on the GSG. Way too many better options. If you want a .22 with a classic pistol look I would go with a Beretta 70S.

Like several others have said, they CAN be made to shoot fairly reliably. Do you want to spend the time, effort and inevitable frustration to obtain moderate reliability?
Or you can purchase a Smith & Wesson M&P compact .22 and just shoot it. The little Smiths have a sterling reputation for reliability.
I did get my Mosquito to function fairly reliably after quite a lot of work, but never as good as the Smith.

Run away. A friend and I both bought one before their problems were well known. Jamamatic is being nice. An M&P 22 is a better gun, as someone else recommended.

Sig couldn't get their name off that turd fast enough. I watched one literally break in half at my range while the owner was shooting it. Half the slide, barrel , springs littered down range. When I asked the owner what type of gun, he said a sig mosquito. There are so many better choices.

Look I own both a Walther P22 as well as a Beretta A21. What I liked about the Firefly was that it felt like a SIG in the hand.

If you still want something Sig related there are conversion kits for 226 pistols better than an annoying mosquito.

I believe that they either had two recoil springs or the spring was adjustable.....one for HV loads, and one for standard velocity. Proper setting may help with feeding reliability!

Also, the Sig 928 offers a 22 RF conversion. However, it will occasionally misfeed! Even with the occasional misfeed, it offers good practice with the 928. On the bright side, it gives you good training at quickly clearing jams! memtb

I picked up a Firefly a couple years back.
Feels good in the hand, seems to shoot fine, but I don't care for the trigger.
The .22 that impresses me is the Taurus TX22. Good trigger, accurate, comfortable and hasn't missed a beat in the few hundred rounds I've put through it.

I bought my Mosquito in the early 2000s... worst gun purchase I ever made. $400 even back then for a 22 that jammed at least twice a magazine on any ammo I fed it and has a DA revolver length trigger. Shooting it is truly pain.

Maybe they've improved them between now and then. I kind of doubt it, and I don't know why you'd chance it. The Buckmark, Ruger Marks, and S&W Victory are available for target 22 pistols, and the SR22 and M&P 22 are available for trainer pistols. Take your pick, all five are excellent and they all sit in that same $300-$400 neighborhood as a Mosquito.

If you're looking at new .22s I would recommend a Ruger Mk.IV, Ruger SR22, Browning Buckmark, or a Beretta Neos. For used with something with a bit more vintage to it, then it would be a Beretta Model 70S or a Ruger Mk.II, both very reliable and certainly durable .22LR pistols.

Excellent sub $300 .22. I have had one for over a year and find it accurate with both lead and copper loads, reliable and easy to break down for cleaning. I never ran more than 200 rounds at any session and do clean it after every day out. Another to consider is the Bersa Thunder .22 which you might later match with the .390 version.
