Looking for input on this load, not asking what will be best because we all know from the last thread that cannot be answered here.

The bullet I have to try are Hornady 75gr ELD Match. I have almost 200 that were given to me so if they don't work well or flop I'm not out anything but some primers and powder. This heavy a bullet is all brand new to me so I have no idea as to what I should expect to find.

Now I have already done a soft jam in my Savage Model 10 and they will fit and feed. The soft jam measurement is 2.420" and the Hornady #10 has a seating depth of 2.390". So I will seat them to that measurement.

Question is which powder has the best chance of producing good results from these four that I have on hand; TAC, 2460, BL-2(C) and Varget... So far I have not used any 2460 or the BL-2C so I don't even know how it measures. I have used the other 2 powders with a Hornady 68gr Match and they both did well with the TAC a bit better. Also not certain but I believe the Varget could get to a compressed state if high enough.

What twist do you have? My 1-8 16" struggled with that bullet.
I don't have input on those powders either.

1:9 22"
From much reading on many different forums I have have seen many mixed reactions with 75gr., about tops out somewhere around 1:9 and that it also depends a lot on the bullet with an advantage going to the tipped like some of the Sierra Matchkings.

All I can do is try a few and see what happens.

And that is how you should start. Push it fast with whatever powder you can get your hands on and look to see if it’s still stable as far as you want to shoot it (say 300 yards). If successful, then look for “better results”.

Please keep us posted.

Im very interested in your results.

Thanks

The only way to know is test, like your doing. If your twist rate is border line it may not stabilize at a slow velocity, you will have to push them hard to stabilize. And then it's a 50/50 guess as to weather it will stabilize.

I have some of those same bullets, I use in my 224V which it likes.

Exactly why I didn't go hog wild and load a bunch. Shoot these, evaluate and proceed appropriately.

That's always a good approach. Good luck testing. You have an advantage because you can set them longer than I did.
I personally like to do a pressure ladder.
I do one shot in .2 to .3 grain increments and look for accuracy near the top end.
Milsurps and pistols aren't included in this procedure.

I wouldn't sell BLC-2 short. It works awesome with heavy bullets. It works awesome period but it's a slow powder. I had a couple lbs sitting on the shelf for years. I finally decided to try it within the last 8 months or so due to "what the hell, everything is hard to get right now" I came to find out I really like it in a few calibers.

So I have read that it does work well with heavy bullets and Mag primers in the 223.
After I shoot up these loads with the Varget and TAC with the 69gr RMR AND 75gr ELD my intention was to load some up with the BL-C(2) and try it out. Been just sitting on the shelf since last fall!

Well preliminary results are in and looks as if it could be all in vein. Shot 9 in the Model 10 and 9 in the Axis and not one was even close. matter of fact at 100yds of 18 rounds 60% didn't even find paper. 20"X22" target. Of those that did they were not even close to the point of aim. So at this point I see no use in continuing. The I will say I am very much impressed with the 69gr RMR that I loaded.

Thanks for watchin! Need to find someone with a 1:8 or 1:7 twist .224
