So... I bought some primers yesterday on Gunbroker

I’m not sure about powder I have not seen much in central TX since last fall but for some reason the local Cabelas has got primers off and on since January. Powder that I’m getting is mostly from PV
Most of the US ball powders are made in St. Marks, FL. Haven't seen any of it in the state.

Every time I've walked into my big reloading stores, they've had nothing....like nothing for months.
The nearly full 2 20mm ammo cans I have with all my primers are from my didn't know I needed it trips from 2013 til 2019.
Never wanted to be caught short again, but the way I've been shooting up 45 Colts and 44 specials in recent weeks, I might run into a problem sometime next yr should thing remain the same....

When they are on sale for $20 per 1K it’s time to stock up:)
By next year, the threshold will be $80/1K, then $100/1K, then.... Eventually, budgets get strained and the time to quit arrives. Unless it's the only item in your budget or your budget is unlimited.

Hope not! Hopefully by the time you run short there will be a truckload delivered. I doubt you'll be getting them for $20/1K, though. Old times pass, like tears in rain....

Nobody thought they would see $20 per 1K primers the last time it happened, but we saw CCI-500 primers in plastic strips from Midway at $20, then S&B primers at $20, then the Fiocchi primers. Ya just gotta believe and be patient, none of this gloom and doom. And maybe next time it will be $25, meh, I'd take it. :)

I have faith! I’m a half full kinda person

Semi-sorta related, drove past a local gun shop I didn't know was there the other day. Went in to look around. I did finally get an answer to one of life's burning questions. How many layers of distribution must products go through before they hit the shelves.

With big players like Midway, Walmart, etc,......none. They buy direct. Everyone else goes through only 1 layer of wholesale, but that is dispersed among at least 8 to 10 different wholesalers. Everyone buys from these same guys. No telling what kind of wheeling and dealing cracks loose when they make that phone call. Some shops are probably favorites or know someone......or they have an understanding of some sort. Some may have to go through two layers..........they may get product on the shelves, but not at a price anyone wants to pay.

He did confirm they are getting ammo......not an abundance, but in normal times, enough. Somehow the word they have ammo gets dispersed to cell phones.....and the hordes arrive to pick the shelves clean. They sold 5,000 rounds in one hour last Monday. Don't remember what the limit was but he did say they had one.

Noticed an auction coming up soon in MI. with 600,000 primers. All Winchester. Lots are grouped 1k, 5k, or 20k groups. Of Course all the opening bids start at GB prices. Struck me as odd, seeing all the cases of primers in one place. A little Google and found the AH company has been open since Jan. 2021. Previous auctions looked like bulk ammo sales. This place obviously has an inside track to the distributors. Seems most likely that these 100's of thousands of primers and ammo never made to any store shelves.

I tried figuring out how the massive amounts of supplies are being sent to Texas and Nevada while 80% of the rest of the country sits and waits for nothing but it was a wasted effort. Texas and some parts of the PNW are being flooded while the rest of us starve. Lucky them. Glad they can brag and wag fingers.

Ummm, I'm in Texas and no flooding in my neck of the woods. Academy employee's response when I asked if they had small primers, "go back to 2019" and last night the lady said "not 'till next year". I'm not hurting for primers but I am shooting more large pistol calibers than small. I have three times as many large primers.

Sure but look at the posts from some Texans who are managing to get 4-6k primers at stores locally and the posts from Nevada where they stumble on 2-4K at local shops. Those shops weren’t complaining about not getting supplies as far as we’re told. A couple of folks in Wa state have posted flat out they have not experienced any shortages. It’s impossible to see how these supply chains are running but these are reliable reports from good people. I have to wonder what’s going on because there’s no real explanation.

I'll come up with some replacements sooner or later. But I've got plenty of iron in the safes and stuff on the shelf I should start shooting up, at least before I tip over and me loving misso has the barn sale of the century.

The thing to watch in Key West is your wallet. A dang cup of water costs $3. :what:

If anyone is close to Temple TX I can help!:)
TEXASJD Im about an 1.5 hours south of you in Flatonia right on Interstate 10. What do you have? I know that area well. My Grandmother used to live in Little River-Academy. Growing up I used to go to the drag strip there.

Score! :)

kit weren’t cheap - $55/#+tax - but I did find IMR 4064, IMR 4895, and WST locally - well, sort of local. An hour and a half drive each way but worth it. They had two bricks of CCI 4BR primers which I left cause I don’t need them. Let the next guy have a shot. ;)

Nice! we will all locally score soon!

ITS COMING BACK!

I was flipping through gun broker yesterday checking prices on reloading stuff to get a idea if the panic is letting up when I saw four 1k auctions for WLRM primers. They caught my eye because they had no bids with only a few minutes left the starting bid was 50$ per 1K I checked out the seller who was certified hazmat FFL with 3k+ reviews. I sent the a message because shipping was 40$ 1k to see if they would combine it they said no problem, since they are costing about 100$ from online stores because of limits and shipping I thought why not bid ended up with all 4k for 52$ each + 40$ shipping so maybe its getting a little better out there.

Seeking input...is anyone out there familiar with Servicios aventeras (tipo) primers?? Produced in Central Mexico. Only thing I have determined is the "cup" is made of brass and are the "boxer" type. Anyone with opinion on reliability??
