The local academy had some LPM sitting on the shelf and I walked past. I have nothing that uses those and about 500 LPP still at home. They were only 5.50 a sleeve but with only 45 that uses them I passed. If I was really hurting I may have grabbed them for cast in 308 due to the uber low loads....

yeah! I’m not scared man! primers are a item that can easy be made!

Just remember who tried to take advantage of us in 2020!

Good news!

I also have a lifetime supply of large rifle primers, and a few years worth of large pistol primers, so would also pass them up if I saw them. But my small pistol primer stash is still a little low at maybe a year's worth.

My dad used to own a sporting goods store that he closed in 2006, and still had some primers stashed away. Unfortunately, he sold around 7000 small pistol primers a couple of months ago for $50 per 1000 and thought he made out like a bandit. Current local price is around $150 per 1000.

I still mentally shudder a bit remembering during the last such HooHaw a few years ago having to go to Clark Brothers and pay <gulp> ~$45 :what: for a brick of CCI LPs (about 50% over "normal" at that time). One reason that I entered this current Silliness with 35k+ primers and large(r) on-hand QTYs of other/all components. :)

That's my minimum quantity/reorder point for both SPP and LPP.
I used to try and keep enough stuff for 1 national election cycle. When our 44th president was installed for a second term I upped it to 2, then 3 cycles.

ETA Almost all of my primers were purchased at my favorite LGS a few thousand at a time.

I also believe that $50.00 will be the new normal when stores are fully re-stocked.

Bill
Yep and when the dust settles they will be about the same cost across the board at your big name sellers. Those complaining about Midway prices, they will just sell them to someone else because you are never going to see 30 buck bricks again. I guess some have not seen the price of loaded ammo that is available. Even at 75 bucks a brick it's cheaper to reload...

Yup. Last week I picked up powders that were available and that I was kind of getting low on - IMR 4064, IMR 4895, and WST - but left a couple of bricks of CCI 4BR sitting on the table. Some benchrest shooter needs those - I don't.

Does that mean the scarcity is easing up? Not really. The powders I bought - all newest, latest shipments - were made in 2017/18. Probably been sitting in some warehouse waiting for the movers and operators to come back from COVID leave to move the pallets to the loading dock.

Initially, your stating that the production date on your just-purchased powders was 3 years ago surprised me. I purchased some Accurate 2230 just a few weeks ago, it was fresh made.

On further cogitation, your thoughts about warehouse storage makes some sense.

Perhaps someone had stashed a large quantity back, just on market speculation ? Then, when the largest scam on earth hit, there was a logistics problem moving it out ? Who knows.

My other guess is none of those powders are "the new hotness" or "the hot newness" of the reloading world so maybe they didn't move before the plandemic hit and after it hit - like you say - some distributor looked at their inventory and said, "Hey, Luigi, lookat whatawegot inna da warehouse! Momma mia! we gonna make some dough!"
