Prices on SKS rifles

I bought one of the Chinese commercial SKSs when they were under $100 and unfired. About a year ago, I fell into a deal on a partially refurbed 1953 Tula for $350. I offered the guy $300, which he refused but said he would throw in some ammo. He did, 1500 rounds.

I don't see them going down in value, they aren't making any more. To make one today to the quality standards of my Norinco SKS would cost a whole lot of money.

As far as the SKS being inaccurate, it is plenty accurate for it's intended use, and for possible civilian self defense use. Even the police rarely engage beyond 50 yards.

The supply in the US is finite because of import laws. The SKS was still being surplused out by China and Russia as recently as a year ago to the Canadian civilian market with prices running around $225 retail. If our government saw fit to let the flood in, we could easily be swimming in cheap Chinese SKS rifles and stinky 762x39 ammo again. Not going to happen though.

Sad when we have to envy Canadian gun laws. That certainly isn't going to change under Clown Biden.

The short answer is yea, the SKS is continuing to be manufactured today in Russia by Molot, but in a smooth bore hunting configuration called VPO-208.

Molot was also developing a modern, detachable magazine rifle for US market when the US imposed sanctions on the import of arms from Russia.

I agree, sks is like a $100 rifle in my opinion, I wasn't interested when that was normal pricing. Someone wants to spend good money on a gun like that, it's their problem.
I also wasn't interested in mosins when they were under $100, they get crazy money for those now too. I don't see it.

Only com bloc gun I ever had interest in was the AK , several years ago when I decided to buy a semi auto rifle in an intermediate chambering I went out looking. I spoke to the owner of a local shop that did manufacturing and built machine guns ect. , I trust his opinion. He told me that years back a decent AK was a couple hundred bucks, the ones I was interested in were more like $1500 at the time. He laughed and said it's still the same $200 rifle but the price has gone up. Needless to say I didn't buy the tuna can covered in black spray paint but I had my choice between a few arsenal rifles and a few Krebs . no commie guns for me, but some guys like them I guess.

One of those muzzle pics show rifling. What exactly is a .366 TKM cartridge?

Things are worth what people are willing to pay for them. I wouldn't even consider paying $600 for an SKS but some people will. They aren't making any more of them either.

My Norinco SKS is actually pretty accurate; 10” steel at 200 yards is relatively easy. I once owned a Ruger Mini 30 that wasn’t nearly as accurate as my SKS and cost many times more. I still own the SKS, and the Ruger is long gone.

Saw the same thing at a Gun Show recently. I haven't been to one in years. Chinese AKS commercial rifles were never what you would call "Cheap" but $2000.00?

Reading this thread got me thinking, so I had to grab one out of the safe and fire 40 rounds! Fun rifle to shoot and plenty accurate at 100 yards for me with iron sites. Got some for $99 10 or so years ago. I saw a decent Norico for sale last year for $400.

I'm thinking they won't go down much in price due to regulation and inflation, so if you want one and can afford it, get one while you can.
