First Let me say I Love adjustable Poly Chokes for hunting. Nothing Like haveing five Chokes at your finger Tips. When it comes to Looks I say Pretty is as Pretty Does. Recently Purchaced a 1952 Ithaca Model 37 with a Vented Poly choke on it. I beleive it to be factory installed and I understand back then you could order a gun from Ithaca with a Pollychoke installed. Also own a 1947 model 37 modifed choked barrel as well. These Guns do have a reputation for being hard kickers. They are Light weight pumps and most hunters don't care to much about the recoil as they don't get shot that much and they feel the Lighter weight, Bottom eject, and quick handling of these guns is a good trade off for the Higher recoil. Just My opinion. Having said that It was an Opertunity to do a actual Heads up Apples to apples Pattern Board testing. Both guns were Shot with the same 1 oz number 8s 1200 fps loads. First Off both guns patterned well in center of bead. Was Very happy with both and the polly proved to be more than adequite with cosistant patterns thru all of the different setting with very few flyers. The biggest Differance I Notice was how much felt recoil reduction I seemed to have with the Vented Poly Choke. I have really not considered the 37 much for Trap and Skeet because of the recoil factor. Mind You as far as Trap and Skeet I shoot Autos. But I am thinking with the Right Loads The Vented Poly Choked Barrel might be a lot of Fun for target. Not to mention the fact thatyou can do whatever you want without tubes and wrenches. or Changing Barrel. Having more Fun with the 37s everyday. Just wondered what other people Think about vented Poly chokes or even the Old Cuts compensator.

I like the concept of turning the dial and changing the choke.....but they are "UGLY". Had one on a pump 12 gauge that was given to me, cut it off and dedicated it as a slug gun.

Kinda like putting deer whistles on a Jag XKE.....might be functional but doesn't look right.

Those add weight right at the muzzle so that might affect your swing dynamics. The ultimate test is how they pattern in your gun with your ammo

I love a Polychoke on a single barrel! Have a non-vented on an Italian made Weatherby SAS that is my main waterfowl gun and a vented on. Browning Double Auto, purely a target gun. While I love a Polychoke, I would not have a vented one but that it came with the gun. They are harder to clean and loud. Pass if a solid version is an option.

I prefer to simply put in a choke for my single barrel gas guns. On a sporting course, a LM is in the barrel for an average of 12/14 stations. I carry a SK for that one station with stupid in your face targets and an IM for that one stupid station with edgy targets at 50 yards.

I kind of think of poly chokes as being a bit ahead of there time. Back before we had threaded barrels and choke tubes the poly choke allowed a shotgun to be a multitasking tool. Especially for the hunter. I think it still has a lot of versitilaty for the hunter. I used to carry my extra choke tubes and wrench with me when I hunted. Found the practicality of this to be about None. I find now that i just pick the tube that I hope will work and stick with it. But with the Poly choke I can make a choke adjustment in seconds should the need arrise.

I have 2 skb autos with a Full array of Bryley Choke tubes. I think the biggest advantage of the Poly choke is for the Hunter. My Ithaca model 37 is Very Light weight so isn't a chore to carry in the woods all day. The poly choke gives it a Huge amount of vesatilety. Also I am appreciating the amount of felt recoil reduction I am getting from the Venting. Yea it will be louder for sure. but everything can't be perfect. I think just for Kicks and Giggles it will be fun to also use it for all the wingshooting Games. It might even surprise you even at those.

I like the Poly Choke because many don't like the aesthetics, so I can buy beautiful little model 37 20ga featherweights for $200. They seem to work fine for me, and while I am not a muzzle brake or compensator fan, noise is not a big factor in the cornfields. I do benefit from greater swing weight, but mine stays at improved modified most of the time.

I suspect that in years gone by, damaged muzzles were salvaged with these handy devices, and they allowed one to have the exact barrel length desired without losing or post forming chokes. Poly Choke also made vent ribs that could be fitted to plain barrels. Good stuff!

Yep For Sure. If I ever see one of those little 20 gauge PolyChoked Jewels In a gun show it Will be going home with Me!!!!

Though not my first choice I can live with polychokes. I will not own a firearm with a vented barrel nor will I own chokes with vents.

I grew up hunting with an 870 with a polychoke, never bothered me, I shot it well. I never found much utility to changing it in the field. Most of my current shotguns have choke tubes and I prefer those.

Polychoke was still in business until recently. I believe they mades versions that would screw into several standard choke tube threaded barrels. For those that like the ability to quick change construction in the field. It could also be had with and without the vents just like the original.

I got my first shotgun at about 14 years old. I worked for it and earned it by mowing my grandparents yard for a summer. It’s a Mossberg 600 20ga with C-Lect choke on it. I got spoiled to that setup and find choke tubes to be a silly step in the wrong direction. The only thing a tube gun can do that my gun can’t is shoot slugs, and that’s debatable. Never once have I been wanting for a modified choke when walking into a rabbit thicket, nor for a full choke when I get into the oak stands where the squirrels are. Crank it tight and it’s adequate for turkey, loosen it up and it’s open enough for skeet. Why people poopoo them and cut them off is beyond me. I currently own a total of 2 shotguns and if I could find one to put on the 16ga I would but so far no such luck. When I replace the 410 and 12ga guns I have recently given away I will buy guns with adjustable chokes.

Mine on my Ithaca M37 has a slug setting. Like you I Love em.

I love the Polychokes and the Cutts Compensator with interchangeable chokes.

I know folk don't like the looks and I understand that even if I don't agree with the sentiment. For me, the look speaks to versatility and individuality as well as a sense of purposefulness.

From a user's point of view - they're right up there with Pachmayr Compac grips, white-line butt pads among others as a *standard* upgrade for me.

i love polychokes. i got a almost like new 1937 flat rib model 12 for 275 due to its polychoke.lol.
.....for five stand/sporting clays allows almost instant choke changes. sorry to see the latest owner in wisconsin go out of business....

Ahhhh.... Another savvy buyer capitalizing on the perceived loss-of-value for those muzzle-warts.

Not unlike the S&W lock-hole in cost slashing except that there's an actual shooter benefit to the shotguns' pro-tube-erances.;)

I'm also a fan of adjustable chokes. Think of them a s the Crescent wrench of the shotgun world. While not as appealing as a nice ribbed barrel but I'll take the Poly Choke.

Sorry, I'll take a set of barrels with fixed chokes over polychokes any day; the swing dynamics are just that much better.
And there's an interesting contrast 'twixt a view such as yours and mine.

I find the *dampening* effect at the starting, intermediary and stopping point of a swing more pleasing with the muzzle devices. I tend to aim empty-muzzled or otherwise lightly barreled guns a bit more erratically.

Use longer barrels and that issue goes away.
