Hi guys, not really new here (I read a lot) but I've been thinking for a while whether to bother you or not about this issue I have.
Well, I've got an amazing 870 police magnum that I normally use without extension because of a simple, annoying problem.

The factory Remington +2 extension that I have (which was mounted on a 870 express and perfectly fitted on it), seems not to like very much my 2013 produced 870 police.
What do I mean? The extension screws onto the mag tube with no issues, but when I install its original clamp, the extension starts to bind and diverge a little bit and then I come up with an extension that works, that's properly screwed on but is not parallel to the barrel.
What is the problem? Is the police magnum barrel thicker than the express one?

The shotgun works and feeds even with this annoying bug but I can't stand that fu**ing bent extension on my gun.

Please tell me hot to solve this problem!

Get a Wilson Combat +2 extension. Better designed and with a much better offset sling swivel to mount a modern 2-point sling. You will not have a problem with it. The Remington extension is outdated.

I just got a Wilson Combat +1 extension :D But it's freaking heavy, let alone how heavy the +2 must be! Actually I really like the Remington +2 extension, I just want to find a way to have it fit properly with its clamp...
How can I do?

Is yours parkerized? I do believe the Police uses a slightly thicker barrel.

I won’t have less than 6+1 in my home defense shotgun. The weight of the Wilson unit is more than worth the cost of admission.

You mean the shotgun? or the extension? They should be both parkerized, however I can post a picture...
My police magnum was imported in Italy (where I live) in 2013, I don't know if in that particular year finishing was still the classic police parkerization

I bought one for my 870 Police made in 2015 or so and the extension I purchased from Remington was parkerized and it did not bend when installed. I didn’t care for it and went to Wilson, mainly for the super useful side mounted sling plate but also for the simplicity for field strip.

Is crime in Italy bad? I do know the food is good there. I’m very fond of pizza and pasta and imagine you folks make the best around!

Well it fits perfecty, but when I start tightening the screw to ensure the clamp, the clamp start to bend the extension pushing it away from the barrel...and it ain't good for two reasons: it's aesthetically unpleasing (the most important one :D) and two, it could cause feeding problem or mess up the spring...I like the factory extension also because it has a quick detach swivel which I find very useful and handy...

As far as Italy's crime is concerned, I can say that we don't have much crime at all. At least in the northern area - I live between Milan and Como, where Clooney used to live for a while...
I love pizza and I love pasta too but since I'm a gym nut I don't get to eat all the good stuff we have on a daily bases!

How are you installing the extension? It is designed to go on in two pieces. Take it apart, screw the barrel retention part on tight, then insert the follower and spring, then capture the spring with the extension tube. Tap on the sides slightly as you get close to the end otherwise you could catch the spring between threads.

The Wilson extensions are great too, possibly upgrade to an SBE follower if you go Wilson, I don't like the green follower they use. Good luck!

I do mount the extension the same way the video suggest, the issue I have is of a different kind. I install the extension properly and when I have to put the clamp and tighten the screw that holds the clamp in place, the extension start bending creating like a "V" with the barrel...and the more I tighten the screw, the worse the extension bends...
I hope I've explained myself decently :/

Sounds like the clamp is too short and as it tightens, it's pulling the extension toward the barrel. Unsure why it would work fine on an express but not on the Police, the specs of each should be identical. You may have a Wilson tube in your future!

That's what I've been thinking...how on earth it worked fine on the express and doesn't on the police :(

I want a two piece extension, mechanically is more reliable...and it's even with the barrel, which I like. I need to find another clamp and since in Italy we don't have sh*t when it comes to accessories and such...good luck to myself!

You may really like the Wilson extension. All my extended tube 870s wear one. I prefer the style without the sling plate or swivel stud, it's a very clean look and is very well built. Good luck.

Yes I know it's a quality extension the Wilson...and looks good either. I just found up that there are two types of clamps and I have the wrong one.

Thankfully you do have excellent wine and authentic natural food, America is lacking in that regard!

No, it's not my cup of tea (for now)... but who knows, maybe in the future I'll dig into it...I love old school single action revolvers like my avatar may suggest :)
Where I come from there are A LOT of fine gunsmiths and gunmakers and basically they're all located in the same area or in the same town (Gardone Val Trompia) of the Beretta original plant. They build finely made shotguns and rifles, with crazy engravings...
Restrictions are for carry in Italy, not so much for owning. Which I don't think it's a bad idea, at least in my opinion. We don't have that much crime that you have there in a lot of cities, therefore we don't need a weapon to protect ourselves at that level.
When I say that it's hard to find gun parts, it's because we have to import from you guys all the parts for S&W guns, Colts, Remington and all the beautiful pieces of machinery you produce...
there isn't a big fat gun market here, we produce a lot but we export a lot.

Very nice. I own some Pietta and Uberti made reproductions of cap and ball revolvers and they are very very fun. Take care and God bless you and God bless Italy sir.

This guy used to post here - but no longer... At any rate he's an authorized Remington gunsmith who does combat conversions and might just know the exact fix for your problem... Tell him I said Hi...
http://www.aiptactical.com/
I read some of his posts elsewhere if memory serves...and I watched some of his vids on the 870, I'll try to ask him again, thank for reminding me of him!! :)

Funny thing... for my own uses I'd never want a mag extension at all... I much prefer a shotgun that's quick pointing when speed might be life itself... That basic four shot riot gun is all I'll ever need.
That's true, the handling of the stock 870 without extension is excellent, but I like more a little bit of weight up front and I feel better with six in the tube than 4

I had the same problem. Temporary fix is to not use the clamp. Will not affect function unless you decide to use the end of your shotgun as a club.
